This game just got a port/remaster recently, though I do not have the money to buy it. Would be nice though, I remember liking the game EXCEPT for the performance issues. The original would slow down at certain parts.

For me it's Bahamut Senki. KINO strategy game with a really unique system. Loved it so much I bought two copies of the JP retail version since there's no Eng localisation (but it has a fan patch). A shame SEGA never made a proper modern day sequel.

But also impossible to beat on the hardest difficulty; it is genuinely impossible. I always play on Easy or Normal.

I like the sheer number of customisations you had in that game.
Want a pure strategy game? Choose the complex ruleset.
Don't like turn-based? Switch to real-time battles.
etc. etc.
Of course, that's not to say the game is flawless; for example the delegation system is all fucked-up, and the balancing with Balmer is beyond stupid, and the tile limitations with summons are frustrating, etc. But I still love the game despite its warts and pimples.

From what I recall. It was mostly due to a misplaced expectation. Since the woman on the cover was very pretty a bunch of Japanese players bought it thinking it would have has some sexy fanservice moments but outside of the long intro scene and ending there's not really any of the sort in Gaiares. And the women on the cover isn't even in the game

If you were look up some Japanese thoughts using the Japanese title of the game (ガイアレス) you'll see some mention of the cover and how effective it was.
>>
>>739531585
Might check it out whenever I'm in a patient mood. Sometimes it's hard to play these old rpgs until it really clicks. >>739531767
Their cover was way better than what we got.

Speaking of when are we getting another genesis collection? I know they can all be emulated but sometimes they add fun challenges plus it allows people who aren't smart enough to download an emulator to play some classics.

I remember Sega said something about finding a new way to play their classics games before taking down the shitty Digital Eclipse collection, but no idea if anything else came from it.
I know people shit on it for good reasons, but NSO Genesis is pretty good and I wish it wasn't so dead (but hey we needed virtual boy games).

>Phantasy star 4 is a better game than ff6
No fucking way. PS4 is decent but it's nowhere near as good as FF6.
>Landstalker is a better adventure that alttp.
You are absolutely out of your mind. Landstalker is a complete mess because of the atrocious platforming.
If you're gonna compare something on the megadrive to LTTP you should have said Soleil/Ragnacenty. (which is much more similar, but still not as good).

Only if you have no other handheld means of emulating old games and really want to do so. Otherwise you're just paying a subscription for a limited selection of games you could be playing for free elsewhere.
>>
>>739530496
Why are Japanese so much better with color? I've always noticed that western art and films tend to be very monochromatic. You see it even in films where they have a fetish for grading colors with a blue or yellow tint to make everything seem much more monochromatic.
>>
>>739532419
For me its portability, fast bootup and good buttons (i have a lite).
The current catalog ain't bad but its missing a lot of good games (still no Sonic 1 or 3 probably because of Origins+) and like I said it hasnt been updated in like 2 years at this point.

And on the US side of things, Gaiares advertising is remembered due to how straightforward and non-juvenile it was, they literally just grabbed one of the testers, had him put on a shirt with game name and there we go.

Also the JP box back has a repeat of the woman's art, but the ship place over her is a bit different, just enough to 'confirm' that yes, she is naked.

The original 4 games all have a connection with each other but they're largely standalone

3 is the least connected to the point 4 hardly mentions it (outside of a single optional area) 2 is important to 4's events but the intro kinda already gives you the very basic rundown

In a certain sense yes.

El Viento, Earnest Evans, Annet Futatabi. They're all considered part of a trilogy

El Viento is the first one. Evans is the second and Futabai the last. Of all of them. I think El viento is the most fun. Earnest Evans is uhh. Well kinda janky and does that weird doll like movement physics, but I think you could find an appeal in it. Futatabi is a beat up em. A pretty simple one all things considered.

I remember playing a YYH fighting game that kinda sucked ass, I don't know what I was thinking of maybe it was on the Super Famicom, but I actually had no idea Treasure even made a fighting game.

> just wish the dungeons weren't so painfully short. One of them is only like 3 fucking screens

This is the biggest flaw of the Genesis overall in my opinion. The games are all very short.
Mario World has like 70 stages, Sonic has like 14 .
ALTTP is like 16 hours long, Oasis is more like 7h .

Customers must've felt ripped off back then.
>>
>>739550371
It's arcade-like design since the system is pretty much a pared down System 16 board. You're also meant to replay Sonic over and over.
>>
>>739550371
>Mario World has like 70 stages, Sonic has like 14 .
Forgot to mention pretty much every Sonic stage is relatively expansive, while Mario has a lot of complex designs, but it's also padded with filler stages. At the end of the day a Sonic 2-like game can last 1h, a Mario World-like game can last 2~3h.
