Master Chief's real name should have been Noah, not John.It would have tied into the biblical flood story references with the Covenant and the Flood.
>>739528629his name is halo thoughbeit
>>739528629>Halo Hot TakesCortana should have had nipples
>>739528629John 1:17 is a biblical reference to Jesus being the savior of Humanity.
>>739528994In that regard Master Chief is more like Noah than Jesus. In the first game, he and Cortana are the sole Terran survivors of Installation 04's destruction. They board an "ark" and drift through space until they reach their own Ararat, or Earth in this case. So much for being the savior of all the humans he was with at the time. And then, in Halo 3, ends with Master Chief pretty much being on another "ark".
>>739528629>>739529180It would've been too on the nose.
>>739529180I don't think he is ever referred to as John within CE itself iirc. Just Master Chief. Regardless, he still saves humanity as far as that single game is concerned. Stops the covenant and spark from nuking the galaxy, kills the flood.By Halo 3 he is definitely the Jesus figure though. Being Noah wouldn't make sense thematically, as Humanity is more equated to Christianity in contrast to the wayward covenant (like the Judaic law by the time Jesus arrives) which seeks to destroy them. Being a noah would imply that humanity/chief is a part of the covenant. Makes even more sense when you understand that Humans are forerunners in the bungie games, thus Chief being a Jesus figure coming in to fulfill the law is a perfect fit. Forerunners establish the world - > Covenant takes the forerunners world and bends it ->Modern Humans return and reclaim their world Jews establish covenant with God -> Jews grow away from God and become corrupt -> Christ arrives to fulfill the covenant and save Mankind
>>739528629No that is just stupid and too on the nose. He needed a simple name that is in common use. His name works. An actual hot take is that Halo 2 should have had two separate and complete campaigns for both Chief and Arbiter that you can choose. Similar to how RE 1 and 2 worked. Would have been a lot better than what they gave us on release.
>>739528629Master Chief isn't the bad guy though, why would he get a biblical name? Also Bungie didn't name him John. And the 117 isn't a reference to a bible verse. It's a fucking Marathon and Bungie's tru7h thing.
