Although it has gone down in history for being the piece of shit that it is, Bioshock infinite was the first game that I ever truly hated. It was right around that time (and also several months before the last of us) where the wagglan era had passed and AAA gaming had really dedicated itself to mimicking film. Bioshock infinite felt like the archetypical example of that where amateurish writing and cinematic presentation brought tons of praise and sales and it came at the expense of innovation in gameplay and mechanics. It was especially insulting coming from a series that had otherwise been praised for its mechanical freedom and interactions. I remember that retard Adam Sessler calling it the citizen kane of gaming and it was then that I realized how core gamers had fallen away from the bigger industry. Then the last of us came out and infinite was forgotten like it should have been in the first place. Not to imply that that time was the peak but I don't think games have ever progressed past that point. They're still trying to release the same shit again and again, now with copy and pasted crafting systems and skill trees. Ultimately it shifted the focus from creating better games to just making interactive movies with ever expanding budgets and dev times. Take or leave all of the microtransaction and live service shit but thats the core of whats wrong with gaming now. You used to have to make a better game to sell.

It might have a pixelly look, but the dev didn't change from trilinear interpolation to point, so to stop the pixels blurring, they just dumped in 4k "pixel" sprites.
Yes, I've seen this at an indie dev meet up.
Bad code is usually CPU bounds, if the graphics reqs are high, they're doing something something really dumb.
AI is going to make this 100x worse by the way. I'm pro AI, but throwing shit code at the problem is pretty standard these days.

Ultimately the biggest cancer is the corporatisation and normalisation of gaming, corporations decided around 2007 that nerd culture could be normalised and milked.
Once gaming started becoming a bigger industry than film it was inevitable that it would get subverted and turned into a monster.
The big publishers bought up studios and in the process killed them and ruined franchises (I'm still mad about EA killing Westwood), and this was before games went "woke".
Now it's only gotten worse with activists and women who want to use the games they make as nothing more than a vehicle for their own ideology.
It really wouldn't be as bad if all it was was a bunch of rich nepo babies making walking simulators, but they are working in the same studios that used to be good like Rockstar and Blizzard etc.
The only solution I see is another video game crash, or for Disney and other corporations to churn out so much garbage that "nerd culture" becomes unprofitable and uncool again.

It caused everything: worse customer service, every single fucking 'widening our audiance' spiels that ruin games, zoomers watching others play games, the terrible sanitization of every single metric that isn't gaywoke, budget inflation and a stronger commitment to utterly raping the dollar out of its customers, third party launchers, etc.

Why is there still steam or gay launchers rather than uhhhh just an exe file nigga? Why is some sort of middleman, even from the developers themselves necessitated? Oh wow they cant just have the latest patch available and you click and it just patches your files exactly like happens with whatever launcher, yeah that cant happen

Niggers think that having physical is some golden definitive of ownership despite the fact that you you can just put your steam games on a physical disk too. But they will now bring up how steam has drm (easily bypassed) but will ignore how old games on disks also had drm.
Its a non argument to blur the discussion around steam, highly likely at this point they are troll farm backed by whoever is salty Valve is still a private company and Gabe isnt allowing a buyout if it.

This one is dumb because it's not Valve doing it. They just provide the option. Stardew Valley, for example, can be installed to multiple machines using the same account and played online that way if you launch it directly. Other games can do it, but they choose not to.
>>
>>739542330
The DRM in question is Steam forcing you to launch games via their platform, which you can fix by messing with a single .dll file. But of course, that won't stop these dumb niggers from complaining.

There was never any "physical ownership". PC physical games were bundled with DRM that always assumed that you're a thief, and at some point "copy protection" could straight up brick the game you "owned" because it would think you're overusing the licence.

No you stupir faggot. You are buying a license to download as many copies as many times as you on as many machines as you like. You loose the license if you get banned off steam or steam dies one day. You, however will always have that which you have already downloaded. The files are on your machine. You can manipulate them however you see fit. They come with a drm which you have the complete freedom to remove and the drm is mostly by individual devs, not steam.

Overwatch-tier multiplayer characters that exist solely to drain the wallet of FAGGOT gamers that like flamboyant quirk slop over simple fun gameplay.
Faceless uniformed soldiers are basically non-existent in modern multiplayer games because they're a lot harder to monetize. That's exactly why Star Wars Battlefront 3 will never happen.

That wouldn't, and didn't, do shit.
Laws you can't enforce are as useful as tissue paper walls, they stop no one.
End result would just be moving hosting locations outside of the reach of US law enforcement, which is exactly what TPB did along with mirroring it's content over countless clone sites.
The real solution is to make the act of trying to prevent piracy worthless, because then it shows the people spending money on such services they've wasted their money, which is far more terrifying than a C&D letter is to someone in backwater EEU.

There was (at least then) a catch, it's impossible to add Steam from their web page or from the client app itself.
It is supposed to be a pop-up or something when you first launch the game via Steam. This never happened and I could not play that demo.

Lol this would be a great Reddit meme! Unfortunately the seller discloses 3rd party software up front, so you would have to be an utter retard to take it seriously or waste a thread on it.

Hats in slot machines in TF2. Seriously fucked up the entire industry worse than anything else anyone else ever complains about. It turned so many video games into slot machines and fostered a rabid community of people who want to turn every video game into a slot machine. Most video games since have been poisoned by this in some way shape or form. IMO if hats had never been put in slot machines people who pay into that shit would be sitting at the casino pulling a lever right now instead of complaining that a video game makes you play the game and you can't just put your quarters into a slot machine to "progress". Video game devs put significant dev time into catering to slot machine players, ruining otherwise good games and the industry will never stop adding slot machines because it's easy money. Valve doesn't catch nearly enough shit for being the company that single handedly unleashed the most detrimental blight unto video games as a whole. Hat's were just the tip of the iceburg, they paved the way for all future microtransactions and gacha mechanics because it was proven a successful business model.

Why would I want to own a game that has DRM built into it and doesn't let me play it on my terms, in any way I want?
