funfact: you can hack a ps2 using those demo discs they gave out in magazines.what you did was copy the disc on your pc using imgburn, edit the iso to replace the demo.elf with your own homebrew, burn it to a blank dvd-r, boot up the real demo disc, select the demo you replaced and on the screen when it tells you the controls you swap in your burn disc and press X. Instead of crashing the console or sending you back to the ps2 menu it loads your .elf
