It still always surprises me when I see Under Night pulling less players than Central Fiction, either in tournament are just in its average playerbase. Even with BB being a bigger brand in general, I really feel like the opportunity was there for it to at least surpass CF just by virtue of being an anime-fighter, even if it might not be the most traditional one, that is still being supported with new content and updates. Maybe I'm just overestimating the amount of people who are willing to put their money where their mouth is and actually play a game is not hard to find praise for and also does things people claim they want, like being sprite-based or being 'technical' (even though it's not really that hard), or maybe I'm underestimating how much it missed its shot to get new people to try it with its botched launch, but it still always surprises me to see CF on top of it.

The game ran out of kickstarter money and had to release in a barebones state with no tutorials or single player, they barely invested into advertising and casuals dropped the game pretty fast. I remember Sajam getting filtered by the game being too hard for example. So they're only gonna start advertising when they finish doing content to attract casuals such as: single player, steam workshop integration and console launch, which should be next year. They already got tutorials, items and casual stages, and have tons of cosmetics, so I think they're getting there.
