okay, so i've heard about these games for years and years and years and years on end.
they're on sale right now. and i'm thinkin' of maybe gettin' Senran Kagura: Estival Versus. should i? what's the best Senran game? are they actually good and fun to play?
I want to make sure i get a lot of bang for my buck.
>>
Senran Kagura games are kusoge.
>>
>>739596087
The actual most fun ones are on the 3ds, but emulation for the first one is a little bit broken. Its almost entirely playable except for special move cutscenes
If you dont wanna put up with that and emulate then the best and most fun one is probably burst renewal. its supposed to be a remake of the original game but its actually just estival versus resold with better gameplay and the original game's story. estival itself is decent but they kinda fucked the gameplay and made it way too slow. and even that one is basically just the same thing as shinovi versus but with better graphics and obviously a different story, i thought shinovi was more fun because it was a lot faster to play
TL DR just stick to the 3ds games if possible, if not then go for burst renewal
>>
>>739596453
I see. what's different between Estival and Burst Renewal?
>>
>>739596647
well i mean other than what you just specifically mentioned.
>>
>>739596087
Shinovi and Burst Renewal are worth playing. Estival fucked the gameplay supposedly to balance pvp for a game where multiplayer doesn't matter.
>>
>>739596647
At their core they're the same game, renewal is almost a shameless cashgrab actually because it is the exact same levels and animations and everything as estival. The major difference is the story, renewal having better/faster gameplay, and renewal having less content. They seriously cut out characters who were free in estival to sell them as dlc in renewal. Also I think in renewal some of estival's mechanics are missing like the finisher cutscenes, and there might even be less levels and missions overall in it. In basically every way its a downgrade from estival except for the massively better story and gameplay
>>
>>739596980
how is it better if it's a downgrade in almost every concievable way
what?
>>
>>739597063
The gameplay in Estival is just that bad compared to the other games.
>>
>>739596087
If you're stuck with Steam then I'd recommend Shinovi Versus or Burst Renewal for gameplay over Estival Versus. Estival is feature rich and fanservice heavy, but the devs had it in their mind to balance the mechanics around multiplayer so the actual moment to moment gameplay is significantly stiffer than usual, plus CPU enemies frequently employ hyperarmor so impact feels like ass. Shinovi probably has the smoothest button pushing, but the campaigns are paced kinda weird and the difficulty is VERY easy to break. Renewal is a remake of the first game that doubles as a glorified Estival mod, and it handles somewhere in the middle but closer to Shinovi. Good one to play for the story, but as a remake of the first game it's scaled a fair bit down in scope from the other two.

estival fucking sucks to play, like a lot. the vast majority of the roster is so slow and shitty and awful, its even worse when the prior games werent like that. renewal fixed that a lot. also the story in estival is kinda mediocre, burst's is really simple but it has some good moments that make the characters endearing, estival is mostly just comedy stuff which is fun but its not the same as when it was half fun and half serious

fuck it, bit the bullet.
if you guys fucked me on this, i'm gonna fuck you like John Wayne got fucked with radiation during the filming of The Conqueror. or like how Bob Kane fucked over Bill Finger.
>>
>>739597283
Estival has its serious bits, mostly with Ryoubi being a little emo bitch for the entire game and Jasmine soloing damn near the entire cast with both hands metaphorically tied behind her back, aside from GUESS FUCKING WHO but yeah, the mix is off for sure.
>>
>>739597602
If you hate that one, you wouldn't like the others any more than it. Hope you have fun with it.
>>
>>739596087
Estival versus had some funny hidden mechanics iirc. It was also the last one I played, the vita game shinovi versus was also fine perhaps even better than estival.

Get either Burst Renewal, because it's the story of the first game in the series
or Shinovi Versus, because it's the first of the "4 schools" storyline, especially if one of the girls on the left in pic related interests you

>choose between more content and mechanics or better gameplay
I kind of hate that choice, why can't the better gameplay also come with content?
>>
>>739598473
Because the devs are stupid. That is the actual reason. They saw that Shinovi's multiplayer was a mess in spite of the fun stuff, so they axed pretty much anything about these games that could be called fun in response. Added a shitload of tertiary mechanics and some of that's cool, but the actual foundation was fucked beyond reason.
>>
>>739597602
hopefully the next time you come back, it's to tell us who your favorite senran is

what's the best Senran game?
Senran Kagura 2 Deep Crimson, the last time the series had any actual ambition, but since the game underperformed while the new direction taken with Shinovi Versus got unexpectedly popular, anything thereafter was taken from Shinovi, all the ambition died and the games got more wackier, with the setting and characters growing more light hearted.
>>
>>739598327
imu is very smart
>>
most of my favorite characters are not even playable in Re:Newal
What the fuck is this shit
>>
>>739599601
It's a remake of the first game. The cast is about half of who is available in Shinovi, the characters didn't exist yet.
>>
test
>>
>>739599680
But if there's no Shiki then what's the point?
>>
>>739599959
Did you check the DLC?
>>
>>739599959
Renewal's not the game to play for the roster size. As said before, the game's scale isn't as large as the Versus games, it's one to play to get introduced to the world of the series. Playing Shinovi afterwards is a fair move, and that one has a much bigger roster than Renewal. Notably, it introduced Shiki's entire team.
>>
shiki's a hoe
>>
>>739599328
You are not alone.
>>
>>739600173
As much as I enjoyed Shinovi it was a bit rough going from Renewal to it. It's really disappointing we haven't gotten another game since. Fuck I'd take an Estival re-release with Renewals combat at this point since it's not like 7even is ever fucking happening.
>>
>>739600613
>I'd take an Estival re-release with Renewals combat
That would arguably make it a top tier entry.
>>
>>739600670
>shit plot and dumb downed characters
>top tier
No.
>>
>>739600798
Fair enough, but the campaign pacing is pretty good and all the additional mechanics like firebombs, mechs, wall running and shrine hunting didn't exactly hurt anything. But yeah, it's still a pretty shitty story on the whole.
>>
>>739596087
Which game should I start with?
>>
>>739599328
>The story never continued after SK2 because nips were too shit at games and got filtered by Yomi
>>
>>739601095
3DS games if you can.
>>
I'm going to get Burst Renewal, Estival and Beach shooter, wish me luck.
>>
>>739601118
In their defense, we only got SK2 post-patch. The western audience never got to experience Yomi ripping people new asses. You'd have to have imported it and played it on a Japanese 3DS in spite of its overwhelmingly negative reception, or otherwise seek out an intentionally unpatched ROM. I doubt any of that's actually worth the effort.
>>
>>739601290
Good luck with Estival, some parts are going to be unbearably shit to play. The rest will just be regular shit to play.

>>
If one has both Steam games, which one should be played first?
>>
So I got and played 1 and 2 before they shut down the 3DS store.
Does this mean i already witnessed the peak of this series and don't need to touch the rest?
Also, i think i generally liked 1 more than 2 so that can't be a good sign if it already went downhill there.
>>
>>739602212
>Does this mean i already witnessed the peak of this series and don't need to touch the rest?
Honestly, yeah pretty much. You could try Shinovi Versus if you REALLY want to see the new girls but the game isn't all that good.

Most likely will not end up buying Estival.

What are your thoughts on the game so far?
>>
>>739606085
I didn't expect the need to unlock abilities and gain levels to do so. I'll need to go through the instructions again since I'm only using one style and I want to see what the other style is in terms of movesets. Not sure if I'll be able to unlock more attack strings at higher levels or if I'm stuck with what I have.
The menus navigation is just slow enough to be kind of annoying.

idk, the proportions seem wrong? or some body parts are at a weird angle? Also neck too long i think. At least putting the sword a bit further behind her back was the right move. it shouldn't be as visible as it originally was.

lol no. the same thing bothers me.

Do not buy the Playstation versions, stick with Steam.
They are completely busted for the PS5, and they refuse to fix them. This includes Peach Beach.
>>
>>739611007
oof
>>
>>739611007
There are no perfect versions. On PC:
Burst ReNewal has broken AI (they never use ninpo) and some visual effects are broken (most notably the dream tree skybox in some of the final stages plus the hidden enemies in regular stages are literally barely visible you can only see 2 glowing dots for their eyes, whereas on PS4 you could see a shadowy body)
Estival crashes a lot on PC
Peach Beach Splash has corrupted textures in one of the stages, there's a fan fix on Steam guides though
Shinovi is fine

>once again remember that Asuka`s writing sucked

Everytime this part. Like Asuka is the only characters that is just badly written. It's get to the point where it feels like flanderizarion did absolutely nothing to her.
>>
>>739601095
If you can't start with 3DS, Burst Renewal is a remake of the first game and was a good introduction for me. I later got my hands on the 3DS and enjoyed the original sidescroller afterward.
