ITT: Your favorite and least favorite vidya mechanics

Favorite: Mechanic upgrades actually cause your character/gear to change visually. It's such a simple thing to do, but a lot of games cheap out on it.

Least favorite: Escort quests of any variety

Favorite: Pic related where your headquarters/castle expands and adds more stuffs the more you recruit characters

Least favorite: Rhythm minigame
Fuck u kingdom hearts

>It's a simple thing to do
Not really, required a lot of work to visually create all that gear, which is why so many games just use 2d sprites for items and not having to have a fully rendered 3d piece of kit for every single armor in the game.

Obviously if it's already 3d and equipped to human like enemies it's a lot easier to just swap it over onto the player skeleton but still.

Not sure about my favorite, but my most hated is definitely
>JRPG stagger meters
>>
My favourite mechanic is the wall jump in Super Metroid.

My least favourite mechanic is the wall jump in every other game.

Crimson heads, RNG headshot crit chance, and lighter+kerosene mechanic from RE1 Remake

Favorite: Job systems with lots of passives you keep between jobs
Least favorite: Probably limited inventory space

Killing other racers in a racing game is always a fun time. Nothing like taking first because you kickstarted a massive pileup that took everybody else out.
I hate inventory management, but it can be done decently. Inventory management paired with weight limits is pure dogshit. No, I don't want to warp home, bounce between 20 different storage containers, just so I can go back to where I was to get back to playing the game.

>wahh, I hate inventory management and weight limits
Thank god you dullards will never make or contribute to the making of a game. Streamlined garbage like you want leads to trash like D4.
>>
Favorite: Eugenic systems in SRPGs. You can fuck your units and make a new generation of units that inherit traits. Even done poorly, it's a good time.
Least Favorite: When you get hit, you lose attack power also, like in Blaster Master. Never seen this done well and always leads to a downward spiral to death from the slightest mistake that feels awful or hitless perfection that usually doesn't feel as great as doing hitless in another game cause you have an OP weapon so it's not as impressive.

>waah I love pointless busywork and time wasting
Thank god retards like you will also never contribute to game development. Time wasting garbage like you want leads to trash like idle games

I love when games let you transform into bosses you've beaten and give you access to the moves they actually used against you in their fight. I was surprised when Wukong had a temporary spell for that, but Megaman ZX Advent did it the best. Sadly there's extremely few games that let you do that.

And is being forced to walk slowly because of dialogue happening, being indoors or being in a certain area considered a game mechanic? Because I fucking hate that with a passion, let me run when I want to you assholes

Being able to grab enemies and shove them around
Bonus points if multiplayer

>Forced talky walky hallway
>If you keep moving as fast as the game allows you'll still end up cutting out some dialogue, kind of defeating the whole point of the forced slowdown in the first place.
