I like Tau but they would make bad companions in a game that focus in the Imperium. Ta'u in general is very far remove from most of the major conflict or event of 40K. They are too conformist and thus rarely act outside of their goverment. Heck even the Farsight Enclave is it own mini empire. I can see Kroot mercenaries, not Ta'u mercenaries.
