It was not like that on relase and more recently they added a patch where you can opt in and make the overworld difficult but if you could imagine when the game release. Each of the 3 faction had zones you go through via the main quest and each zone gets more difficult and is scaled to higehr levels. So after a certain amount of time the zones are a ghost town as everyone is at end game. So like 95% of the world is empty.
Also, materials were scaled by zone so you only needed to farm end game mats, everyone farming the same place..mats are scarce.

I dont like what they did, making everything in the open world just trash but it was a solution to a more horrid issue.

I was actually in the beta, played day one, dropped it after I finished the story.
Picked it up again years later on console and its probably my most played game of all time now.
I got MMO addiction twice.
I quit it and started again but have quit it now not played for years.
i got to end game where I am just waiting for people to come online, not good in an MMO.
they have shit loads to do now though so if you wanted to get hooked on endless progression, its an OK MMo.
Just it has some issues with the community.
Firstly raid faggots got elitism.
Secondly they fucked teh IRL gold farmers by allowing people to trade the in game currency (that you pay for with IRL money) for items in game.
So as you could imagine. Raid faggots stopped helping people and only do raids if you pay them, often big cash.
you can find noob pug raids, but the raid faggots are all elitism selling carries, people they carry try to sell carries.
nobody is helping anyone.
That actual mechanic of in game IRL currency ruined the community.
It used to be extremely helpful before that.

Also to add, they have this autismo animation cancelling and they added a dummy with housing so they have requirements of you doing DPS checks, which is cancer as the combat is shit.
though I think devs have tried to counter it.

It is still retarded though. Was not an intended "feature" its an engine bug and the devs ran with it and go on like it is intended.

As for the general PvE solo gameplay, its OK, if you like TES you will like it to a point of the whole lore, and it has shit loads of content so you can play it forever but if you are prone to MMO addiction I suggest to not play it.
Also, PC economy is FUCKED, because of gold farmers and bots that you cant even buy common items as a noob because everything os so expensive so if you do want to play it, play on console (PSN)

I wish instead of a gay MMO Bethesda would just whore out Elder Scroll's IP to different studio. I think that's the only way we'd ever get a proper Black Marsh or Elsweyr game. A Elder Scrolls CRPG would be way better than some gay Bethesda "immersive sim".
