Also the fact that none of it matters because there are infinite universes, so it makes you care even less about anything in the game.

The dumbness of the writing gets even more fun if you go full retard.
Sarah only dies if you barricade the Constellation Clubhouse (because the Starborn is coming to gank your artifacts) but you also have the choice to go to your spaceship and fly up to the spacestation to check on everyone. That saves Sarah, who is just sitting there basically, but in exchange the cowboy guy will die down on the planet since he's protecting the clubhouse. bonus funny point: there's a security robot in a box down in the basement nobody bothers to activate.

Corpo industrial fuckwits of a certain mass and income lose their ability to write because they lose their freedom to write what they want without Danger Hair Karen from marketting looking over your shoulder and going "ooooh can we remove that part it doesn't appeal to market sensibilities."

It's why Homeworld 1 and Mass Effect 1 are fantastic, they were made by small teams of people who had NO CONTACT with Californian corpo-rot, and the second the money men get involved you get shit like "THE THREE ANCIENT HYPERSPACE CORES AND THE PROFECY OF THE CHOSEN ONE" or "A HUMAN-SHAPED REAPER WITH A SKULL FACE" instead of the absolute kino of the first games.

Corpos can't write anything, least of all Sci-Fi, which requires both the creativity to image what the world would be like with ___ technology, and the bravery to express the political ramifications of it. Corpo rats have neither, they want to min-max all the actual story out of the story writing and turn the plot into an algorithm where the moral is "pay us for the DLC."

And this is how you know the romance in Starfield was made for dorks, these cheesy flirty lines would never work irl, lol, Oddly enough however, there's still more interaction in Starfield than there is in a lot of games with romance mechanics, most AAA games in particular would either barely let you interact with them once you've unlocked a sex scene or two, or completely stop letting you interact with them altogether. I mean you can even marry these characters if you want to.

If you have no option rather than the same thing written in different ways, then it might as well have no options at all in that dialog

There's a giant pool of blood, why would I ask if the person is OK? Why would I screech at then as if that would make them heal? Why would I tell them to move when I know this will only make them die faster? Is the only option available to act like an hysterical woman? Then fuck it, don't even show me the options.

There's no need to be a full asshole, but you have more options rather than being irrational and emotional. In that situation, I would ask the person if they have some post mortem wish they want done. That's something. You could also make an option where you just comfort the person, for her to die in peace.

Bethesda "writers" fucking suck nowadays.
>>
>>739614557
TES and Fallout have far more interesting settings (because neither were written by modern Bethesda) and they are series with long term fans, creating a backbone of people who are buying the game and talking about it. They also have normie appeal because you get to go around and kill things and explore fun shit. Starfield has none of that, but still has all of the negatives of being a Bethesda game and then some.

For all of Fallout 4's problems, the majority of the companions were fun to be around. Ada, Cass, Codsworth, Curie, Danse and Deacon were all entertaining in their own way. I haven't played that game in like five years and they've all stuck with me.

Every single companion in Starfield was like beige wallpaper, they were all like Preston Garvey, just a platoon of the most soul sucking boring individuals imaginable. Even the space cowboy was played so benign that it was monotonous to be around him.

This is the problem with Bethesda summed up. They assume you give a shit about this character, so 3 out of 4 options are hysterical distress that your bestie in the whole wide world is dead. The 4th on the other hand feels weirdly autistically detached, I feel like asking someone what happened while all of their blood is on the floor is just retarded.

That's the thing that hit me too. Playing for a while, doing enough side quests to sate my desires and finding out most of them sucked. Getting to the end to find it really is a NG+ mechanic. Only to realize it resets everything...
The idea that everything you did just actually ends up being a new game reload, and the only difference being some quirky shit with the main characters in the lodge, and the fact that you have to do NG+ 10 times to get all your powers fully upgraded, which is quest locked and not even fast because of it, along with the full suit and ship. It just seemed like a shitty afterthought that takes away from the player rather than make things interesting. I could start up Skyrim and go through the opening sequence to bleak falls 30 times before I ever wanted to revisit anything in Starfield. And there's no fucking NG+ in Skyrim.

Cool, you can make a feature actually interesting for the player rather than make it some writing LARP. >>
>>739619389
The fact that they can sell something worse than FO4 and get away with it. Now they'll absolutely rape Elder Scrolls and probably fuck mod support for the billionth time.
>>
>>739613875
it's bot even bad is the worst part, it's underwhelming. There's so much potential but bethesda basically didn't want an open world game, theres only one quest line with actual gameplay consequences and it just cuts your exp and resource gain by making pirates friendly.
On the gameplay side the biggest sins are:
menus in menus that that aren't consistent. Pressing escape on map takes you up in maps until it closes the menu, but pressing escape in any other menus will bring you back to the tween menu before closing.
space flight is still full of loading screens and menu usage to land or leave system.
vehicles are awkward due to random rocks scattered everywhere.
The scaling is brutal, early game gear is useless after like 3 levels, automatics are entirely a waste of time after level 30 due to hp bloat.
ship editor is positively arcane in its layout and controls, warnings provide no help in finding the actual problem.
Every single companion before the free lanes update punishes you for being a badguy, immediately losing access to them if you accidentally shoot a civilian, when a major boss fight happens in the most civilian packed area of the game. (also it's a major plotpoint that the mcguffin people are renowned for collateral damage)
Encounters are relatively limited since 99% of enemies are just human with gun, robot with gun, robot/alien dog, robot/human without gun, and turret. Terrormorph and ghost things from the first dlc do stand out as interesting encounters.
stealth archery is still overpowered.
random generated npcs are horrid goblins.
powers are only supplemental to weapons, so no mage gameplay.
Now onto the good:
Combat does feel legitimately good, guns handle well, jump packs allow for a significantly more reactive playstyle.
Ship combat is good, though boarding being softlocked behind a perk is irritating.
Actually enjoyable boss fights, with mechanics beyond hit until dead.
Bethesda's best quest writing ever in some quest lines.

Not like it matters anyway, most people are going to put it down and go back to their heavily modded Skyrim setup for at least 3-5 years until TES6 manages to get towards a fraction of that. I mean have you seen how dead things are for the Oblivion Remaster despite it's high praises? It only has a little over 4000 mods to it's name right now compared to Starfied's 13,000
>>
I really want to like this game more because they got so many things right about how you explore and fight, but it just isn't there. I'd love to max out all my gear or something like I would in Skyrim or Oblivion or Fallout but you literally just need to dump 10s of millions of credits in on it.
The economy is completely fucked in game. There's too much junk and it weighs too much and you can never liquidate any of it because nothing is worth buying so merchants never have money.

of course it's not like you need max anything, I had mid level gun upgrades and the one single ballistics skill maxed out and was mowing down everything in the game like it was a joke. At the end of the game I just gave up on trying and just ran straight at everyone with a katana under no threat to my life.

so we got fucked balance, we got fucked economy, we got fucked quests...
and all for what, to do more radiants? as much as I love killing spacers it becomes a real chore when you get shit like that maze ass Cryolab seed every time.

Bethesda operates entirely on nepotism. Emil is Todd's friend, and that's that.

>Although by that logic
This is sarcasm. This is a common phrase in English used to ridicule an argument. It was obviously not put on the moon for cooling and this character is trying to convey how that logic does not work, even if you were to assume that it does.

That's what the "absolutely" is for. The total death of Elder Scrolls is coming. Everything gone, all the mechanics so normal fag-ified there's nothing interesting, zero choices between dialogue and every armor set is one click like Starfield, Emil at his new peak, everywhere there will be Redguards except they'll all be laden with Wakanda Disney shit and zero identity. I can't wait.
>>

You did, my eyes missed it somehow. Apologies senor.

it also bothers me because the Emmisary's model is very clearly supposed to be female so having Barret's face on it was offputting.
>>
Marika a cute
>>
>>739619885
Considering how starfield's game mechanics are so hardcore it filtered normalfags maybe dumbing them down is a good idea.
>>
>>739619919
No biggie I forgot only the fuckables could be recruited from that dump anyway
>>
is starfield good now?

>The scaling is brutal, early game gear is useless after like 3 levels, automatics are entirely a waste of time after level 30 due to hp bloat.
this really wasn't my experience, did this get changed in the port/update? did you not invest at all in damage perks or use the workbench?

>though boarding being softlocked behind a perk is irritating.
there's what? I was under the impression all you needed was an EM weapon to disable engines.
>>
>>739620028
Too bad she's retarded.
>>
>>739619989
Emissary was best girl in my playthrough. Added some surprising emotional depth to the main quest which sorely needed it.

Yeah, the new update pretty much makes it the best fully featured scifi space game out right now that isnt expanse or star citizen. It's basically elite dangerous but you can actually do things on foot or it's like NMS except you can actually do real quests and talk to people instead of nameless aliens.
>>
>>739620286
Yes it was changed with the free lanes update, before you couldn't get the upgrade mats without entering unity. Automatics are still bad after level 50 though, you need significantly more ammo to deal the same amount of damage as a semi-automatic.
As for the EM weapon thing, maybe, the ships you get without paying don't have EM in my experience but I might be missing some.
>>
>>739614360
>Is this entire game written this horrendously?
No, it actually get worse but it so ham it loop back to being kino, like in Armada quest it's clear they are stand up for anti-immigration chuds so your MC don't even entertain talking to them and suddenly become extremely bloodthirsty, it's hilarious.
>>
>>739613923

Its not the games fault you raised her affinity to the highest or second highest of all the companions. Maybe stop simping for bossy middle aged whores and the game wont think you care about them?

>>
>>739620920
Xtech didn't drop before you beat the game? what the fuck?
and idk I don't think autos are that bad, I was using Kryx's magshear all the time at endgame and never ran out, nothing could survive even a 3rd of the mag and ammo is kind of like, the only thing worth buying from merchants to liquidate all your useless items that have weight.
>EM
you can just buy one it doesn't really break the bank... but they definitely barely explain it to you
