The time of day is completely within the player's control whether through waiting or how long they spend in the dungeon. Time passes either way.

You're just assuming that the bottom screenshot is what happens when you leave the sewers in the remake because it's showing the area where the player exits the sewers. In the original game the player can exit the tutorial at literally any point in the day just like in the remake because they're the same fucking game. Generally you exit when it's at peak brightness, which happens in both versions. Because they're running on the same engine.

I prefer OG Oblivion over the Remaster. There are cases where the raytracing looks phenomenal but in most parts the Remaster is just butt ugly. Oblivion was already butt ugly (besides the trees and water) but had at least some charm.

Every screenshot of the remaster that I have seen looks unnatural. The lighting is *wrong*. It's like they've used a preset designed for cinematic renders with fixed camera rather than dynamic scenes of an actual space. A late 90s adventure game's prerendered stills come to life. And no one seems to notice.

those were simply the limits of technology at the time to make a world this big and have it barely run as well as it did.
there was nothing amazing or soulful about Oblivion's art direction especially when you take Morrowind or Skyrim into account. It's been pretty much talked to death how the game basically just went with the most generic LotR aesthetic they could make instead of following the lore.

Oblivion's art style has always been highly acclaimed, especially the classic hand drawn fantasy art that you see in the UI and the class creation menus. Its lack of graphical fidelity is always what it got mocked for AKA potato NPCs. A good remaster would keep the classic fantasy art style whole improving the graphical fidelity. What we got instead was improved graphical fidelity at the cost of total removal of the art style.
