>>
>>739620072
Look, just chill. There is no way it will cost more than $700. That is the most optimal and affordable price point. This thing will be a huge success like the Steam Deck, Steam Controller and VR. Valve never misses.
>>
We won't have a choice if we want pc gaming to survive at this point. Nvidia and AMD are abandoning us.
>>
I have zero chance to buy it in my country
>>
>>739619807
I dont even understand who this is marketed at.
The OG steam machine failed big time and no devs were making games for the machine, it was just a PC box that PC players already have.
Funny enough this might be aimed at someone like me.
I mainly play on console, haven't built a PC since like 2012. Have a gaming laptop i sparingly use, only really play RTS despite having fuck loads of games on steam.
If I could have a small box that I can plus into the TV that is nogt a massive drain on electricity or a big physical burden i would buy one, but the only way I would buy one is if it was as cost effective as a console.
So the only way they are gonna sell one to me or people like me is if they sell it at a loss.
Which desu, valve could afford to do, especially seeing they have a monopoly on PC stores.
They will be essentially trying to take money out of the console market by competing for store sales.
Again the only way they can do that is selling it at a loss to compete.

One thing though, if this actually got huge with normies, they would have to invest in anti virus and security because it would be a PC, used by complete morons who cant into PC but put all their data on it.

ngl if it is for sale for 4-600 I will buy one.

>inb4 ram increase.
not how business works, if they had a contract with the providers for X price, they have to provide for that price.
Manufacturing process of this was clearly started before the Ai bubble.

>>739619950
This is just a guess, but probably.
It should be able to stream to the Frame, so I don't see why it wouldn't work with a Quest.
Try to find someone who uses Lunix for VR and a Quest to get a better opinion.

You guys are not seeing the bigger picture here. As a PC enthusiast you know that every year there is a chance that something might go wrong. Nvidia updates break something or Windows does. Then there are the potential viruses, malware and all that stuff. Don't lie to me, you know this is true. As a PC user, troubleshooting will always be present.

The Steam machine eliminates that. It's easy to use as it gets. It's about streamlining and introducing the general audience to Linux. A PC/Console just to play games and nothing else. Plug in, download and play without all the windows baggage. Sure, it may be a little bit weaker than your current rig but let's be honest, when was the last time you played a high fidelity AAA game? We all know those games are trash. You only play indies, retro or older games. The Steam Machine will play like 99% of games.

>but the anti cheat!
Dude, really? You play crap like Battlefield 6? Come on. You are better than that. Play Deadlock instead.

That's all well and good but where the fuck is the Steam Frame? I need it to use it to do exposure therapy for my crippling social ancient so can you guys maybe get on with it? No, doing it in meat-space doesn't allow me to meet people I find interesting enough to interact with and I need an abort switch that lets me exit a social situation whenever I need to, in an instant without me wasting my life with moving my butt across the globe if I feel the need to change the setting.
I'll still probably get a Steam Machine as a cute Linux machine but I guess I'll wait until most Linux gamers got theirs first.

That huge blob of people on the steam hardware survey who have meh level gear and clearly don't care. Over 50 percent still run 1080p. They don't play or care about high end stuff...
So a small box for the TV? Sure... It's not aimed at anyone with a $$$$ pc...

The majority of the userbase. Most normal people do not care for high end graphics. Gameplay is king and the Steam Machine with the new incredible Steam controller focuses on that.

4k is only really good for movies/TV anyway and I am not a cinephile, I watch movies to zombie out to, on a laptop in bed and I have not watched TV for close to 3 decades.
With vidya gameplay is all that matters and the resolution increase of 4K from Standard HD like 1080 isnt a dramatic leap like SD to HD was.

Saying that, I did "say" to myself that when the next console gen comes I am gonna get a 4K and larger TV.
By then 8K will probably be the standard, idk.

Other than being sarcastic and pretending to be a fanbow, what is so good about this controller?
I look at the form and it is a mess, 2 trackpads, that wtf, who can even use them. Shitty stick placement, quite expensive for a controller, which is a peripheral that is not easy for most to replace parts.
Why but it.
Why not just use a PS5 controller.

Yeah this is a LARP.

PS4 controllers were cheaply made, I guess to recoup PS3 hardware losses.
PS5 controllers are sturdy as fuck.
If someone has fucked up 6 controllers, that is 1 per year since the console has come out they are a retard.
My PS4 controllers broke mainly by playing fighting games and I frankensteined and replaced parts on them. I have had my PS5 for nearly 5 years and its my main platform and while I have bought a new controller s my original one felt worn, it is not broken.
Also
>ps5 can’t expand storage

I'm still mad at Sony for using cheap-ass membranes for the DualShock 4. I've had to open up both of my controllers numerous times over the years to replace the d-pad/facebuttons, both with OEM replacement parts, and 3rd-party. Both wore around the same amount of use. Even modded my X button's underside to more flatly press against the ring of the membrane (they use different shapes on each face button that are a smidge sharp), but that didn't help the durability either.
>>
>>739625582
there is reality and in reality modern controllers use horizontal graphite plates as potentiometers which eventually separate the aluminum holding the graphite toward the potentiometer pin. older controllers use larger vertical graphite plates which don’t separate from gravity; hence why gamecube and dualshock 2 and the duke and series s controllers don’t drift. the real larp is pretending you don’t know this, or this doesn’t exist. (You) can argue with reality and the truth but I will simply reply with a jpg of the horizontal graphite plate inside the ps5 controller and let reality cum on your disgusting face
>>
>>739627008
Same with me. It would mainly always be the down diagonals on dpad and X and square buttons, the buttons I would be using most in fighting games.
PS5 is a lot harder to open up too.
I have not opened one yet but seen vids.

On a related note, the PS5 cleaining.
Sure they made it easy to get to the fan and get the fan out but the fucking dust that gets in the heatsink and even just getting to it to clean the air vent is a mission.
I swear they do that on purpose so normies just buy a new one.
You often heard with the PS4 being a "jet engine" because normies could never into cleaning the inside of teh console, and that had fucking torx screws, scredrivers nobody had.
PS5 has 48 new style torx screws to get to the heatsink to fully clean it properly.
Still not done it properly yet but I had to buy a fucking new torx ready for it.

I earnestly believe many people are going through dualsense controllers every 2-3 years. why else would other manufacturers begin developing technology like tmr sticks if not for durability? and moving away from physical failure points like graphite plates? an analog stick only provides 500 points of input; you don’t need an atomic level of control over magnetism to improve that input

Mike fucking Shaw, I came up with the prices since Valve got this shit in 2024, anyone claiming it's going to be $1000 doesn't know what the hell they're talking about nor know how this shit even works.
>>
I have a 5080. Why would I want this shit? If you've never had a PC it's not the worst idea.

I'd rather put Steam O.S. on a decent PC. Then when i need to run windows apps I'll just boot it into windows. Windows has to much ram bloat and kills performance. To bad we can't go back to the days of assembly code where you could just remove the need for a O.S. all together.
>>
>>739638732
Because steamos is going to be magical!
>>
>>739638732
because wiring your 5080 from your stinky bedroom all the way over to the living room TV on the other side of the house is a giant nightmare. it's also less of a nightmare than using streaming.
it's not for you.
>>
>>739638732
Most I'd consider this is a backup machine that fits in a backpack easily + something to hook up to the HDTV. Shit'll be too much for what I'd want to pay for though with the current ram/nvme market.
