Think about how a modern city operates. You are born into a concrete grid that you didn't ask for. To survive: to get food, to go to work, to participate in society, etc., you are violently forced to engage with the highway system. You have to buy a car, pay insurance, and sit in gridlock. The infrastructure was built long before you existed, and it completely dictates how you move through life.

That is exactly what the Great Will is. It is the unthinking, cold infrastructure of the multiverse. The cycle of universal death and rebirth isn't a malicious plot; it’s just cosmic traffic. It is a mandatory system of spiritual transit that forces human souls to endlessly commute through existence.

Now, who built the highways?

In Vengeance, we learn about the primordial Mother Goddesses (like Tiamat) who represented a world of open, unstructured nature, a world where you could walk anywhere. But then the "Bull Gods" (The Creators/YHVH's equivalent) usurped them. The Creator is essentially Robert Moses or a tyrannical urban planner. He bulldozed the ancient, natural world, paved it over in asphalt, and legally mandated that everyone has to use his toll roads. He stripped the ancient gods of their power and turned them into regular demons, which is the equivalent of tearing down a local neighborhood to build a parking lot, then forcing the displaced residents to work as parking attendants.

When you play a standard Shin Megami Tensei game and pick an alignment, you aren't actually changing the system. You are just choosing what kind of traffic you want to sit in. None of the Alignments solve the core issue: you are still trapped on the highway. The Creator is still collecting the tolls.

This is why Lucifer’s rebellion, and the True Demon path, is the ultimate existential awakening. Lucifer is the guy standing on the overpass pointing out that humans actually have legs. To achieve true liberation, you can't just buy a different car.

Im from a very developed european country and trust me NO ONE likes trains and buses, atleast no grown up male.
We only use them because there aren't literally enough parking spots, one main topic of conversation in any euro city is how you can't park anywhere and how that sucks compared to USA.
Of course we don't envy anything else from usa or the americas but yeah in some places here parking is literally impossible.

Makes you feel like cattle. With hundreds of people on the train.

It changes often
In Apocalypse it was setup by YHVH to keep humans from ascending and perceiving him. He sets up meatspace, endless death and rebirth, hides behinds armies of angels and sits on the throne behind the veil.
The alignments are all playing into his hand, so long as they're still struggling and praying he wins either way.

The only winning move here is the Massacre ending. A new world free of his and the GW's influence, the souls of humans reborn into the new universe, the "demons" returning to their undefined forms

Most car accidents aren't the fault of the vehicle failing and leading to an accident, but the drivers on the road, either the own car driver or someone else in a car.
Driving around with a motorcycle is quite literally risking your life, because the amount of people who don't know how to drive or shouldn't be allowed to drive a vehicle are massive, to the point this pandereta country I live in now mandated that when you get a medical cert for renewing or getting a driving license, you have to bring a medical report so they can deny giving you the license based on your health pathologies.

>Convenience at the cost of human lives
This is a legitimately interesting societal issue though. You could ban personal cars and only use public transit+delivery vehicles, especially within city limits, and have a functioning society, but this is not really done. We are willing to sacrifice some amount of people for our convenience, but where is the line?
I think it's just Am*ricans who are not willing to think about this, since you are so car-cucked
>>
>>739625259

The closest I have seen to ramming a pedestrian was this combination
>Friend had drunk a couple of beers

By milimiters he did not hit the woman and baby.

As long as you arent distracted when crossing the street as a pedestrian the chance of something happening is basically 0.

You know what I find funny?
There's arachnofobia mode in a lot of games, right? Why is there no carfobia mode? A lot of people must be traumatized by either their own or their family members' car accidents. Isn't being reminded of your dead loved ones and/or your disability caused by a car accident more important than "I kinda feel funny when I see a spider, teehee"?
Every game should have a mode that changes cars into horses or something.
>>
>>739625446
I used to live in the countryside and I commuted to school on a bus every day, the ride took around 30mins
I'm 32 now and I don't have a driver's license. I walk/bike/bus/train to move around, and it isn't a big issue for me

>>739625630
There's more than just pedestrian deaths to cars. They cost taxpayer dollars for road upkeep, you have pollution from gasoline and road dust and you actually make moving a large amount of people less efficient since cars take way more space per person than public transit
>>
>>739624568

Most US cities were not the result of a malicious monster like Robert Moses. Ultimately the highways did benefit the country as a whole, granting people greater autonomy, the ability to safely move themselves wherever they wanted as long as they had the money for a car (which used to not be an unreasonable sum). The problem is that the prevalence of the car caused public transportation to atrophy and now we're stuck in this nightmare where literally every public service is accused of being socialist and can't get funding or public support. The country is collapsing thanks to short sighted greed and retarded spite.

Honestly, people all laugh at Yoko for this, but this is genuinely her most interesting hot take. It's not necessarily that cars are bad but rather how humans use and abuse cars and how the system uses cars to manipulate humans in a grand Mandala cycle.
>>
>>739627859
I suppose this is the whole point of the original argument. Where is the line when personal convenience is not worth the societal cost?
I've never seen anyone argue horses/bikes are bad
Cars are contentious in some countries, but they are mostly accepted globally
Private jets are quite often considered ostentatious or wasteful

You'd think a bunch of future astronauts and lawyers would be a little more quiet and respectful, but no, they hoot and holler and fucking yell all day if the heater isn't on full blast, when it's already 95 degrees outside mind you. Once summer hits and all the nig start nogging back to their tribes in other cities, the buses are almost deserted, the drivers are noticeably happier and less stressed, and there's less random needles in the bus too. If you add more parking you get cities like Dallas and Houston where most of the city is parking lots and everyone has to commute from the suburbs by car

Brotherman I want you to remember North America (including Canada and I guess a bit of the top of Central) is fucking enormous. A high speed rail that circles Japan is not viable in a place 300x the size with tons of little towns in bumfuck nowhere that wouldn't even be viable to set up a proper bussing route for. NA doesn't have shit transit and terrible walkability because people like it, they have it because the country is super spread out and people travel around more for basic shit like getting a new stove or some shit. And I know you said "within city limits" and that's even dumber because no city is going to install giant parkades for people coming from a nearby town to enter from. I get that there should be better transit, there should be better footpaths, and there should be more things like +15s that allow foot traffic easier, but it's just a different situation in a gigantic nation vs a small island chain.

They should raise driving age to 21. I don't necessarily agree on renewing until you get your first offense or you're old AF but honestly cars should be a secondary option not the primary option but holy fuck I guess it's also that it's so overcrowded everywhere.

Can only speak about Canada, but Canada can absolutely be a walkable province in Ontario. Montreal is pretty great as a city (not toronto, piece of shit city). The real reason they won't is how will the poor politicians get money on their "projects" if they actually finish them? think about the poor politicians!!!!

The US definitely isn't walkable by any means. Outside of shopping areas and main streets in the big cities, getting around is slow. You'll be lucky to have two bus lines that go to the general area you're getting to, and even luckier if those buses arrive in a timely manner, or show up at all. Of course, you also have to deal with "those" passengers.
And speaking of projects, burgerland's California has had plans for a high-speed railway for over a decade now, but I think it's been constantly cockblocked by bureaucracy and environmental shit. I don't think great public transit is in the cards anytime soon for North America.

Aside from what the other anons said (i.e. population consolidation and propaganda), China has a ton of rural areas that are populated by elderly people that still make all their food by hand in concrete and wood shacks, often without even having paved roads. My Chinese grandma literally had to fetch water and heat it up in a two-sided bucket to have warm water to clean with.
It's very different from the wealthy retirees holed up in small towns in NA that like to travel around, and most of these people aren't exactly big city people either.
>>
>>739631594
>If you add more parking you get cities like Dallas and Houston where most of the city is parking lots
I remember some commentary made from some city simulation developers that considered simulating the need for parking but had to abandon it because the cities they studied and the amount of parking needed was like 70-80% of the total surface area of the city, which wrecked the aesthetics and was completely unfun to deal with.
>>
Like I don't get the argument here, I'm not saying cars shouldn't exist. I'm saying the car population is overpopulated and cars should be an alternative or secondary mode of transport. Not primary. We shouldn't let the average man have access to a fucking thing that can blast through and fucking murder a shit ton of people because they had a bad day.

So is North America's, in fact there's even two coasts there but for some reason no high speed rail infrastructure whatsoever, oh wait the actual reason is because of the american car lobby which is also the reason why cities weren't built to be walkable.

It's not like things were much better before cars. What's the difference between dying from a car accident and dying from disease and famine? As technology advances people prosper.

Takaya's thing is nihilism. He doesn't really care one way or the other. His own point is that given people die so often from accidents all the time, what difference does it make if someone's life dies by his hands? Because individual lives don't matter in the slightest to him, as far as he's concerned, the few deaths he causes are barely a drop in the statistics. And at any rate, his ultimate goal is to wipe out all life on the planet because he believes this is the only possible action anyone can take with genuine meaning. So again, it really doesn't matter how many people he kills.

For some reason, people on this board think that Takaya's making some sort of ethical or moralistic argument, when the entire point of the conversation in that scene is to showcase just how little individual lives matter to him. People die all the time, ergo there's nothing wrong with him adding 0.00001% to that statistic.

hello fellow leaf
Everything is far more spaced out than what it used to be.
Go around town counting all the parking lots. How much space each parking lot takes up.
That could have been a ton of shit there. Houses and stores and what not which are instead big fucking parking lots. So now everything is more spaced out and you need a car to drive everywhere because everything is so FUCKING FAR now. It's more expensive to travel and it's about the same amount of time at this point lol so what was all the point?
It's a vicious cycle of idiocy.
>>
>>739646468
sure, and a car can be fine for stuff like that, but I shouldn't have to take a 10-20 minute drive every time I need to buy food. What you are describing is something that is a luxury, I am talking about how the entire country forces cars as a necessity. Cars = freedom of movement is true in the sense that all US infrastructure is built around their use for basically everything, outside of a few urban centers, The separation of residencies and commercial areas create alot of space to travel between, and create a need to buy vehicles that end up being manned by people who don't take the fact that they're driving a massive hunk of metal seriously.

You don't need to change your lifestyle - the problem isn't with the average driver, it's with city planners, government, and car industry lobbyists. If you want to do something positive support measures to improve public transit and build light rail lines in the area that you live.

Right now a car is neccesary across most of the US but it isn't impossible to build infrastructure that makes carless transport more available, more comfortable, cheaper, and faster.

I tend to flare up when I get provoked on the road and I really have to hold myself back from just breaking laws and speeding to follow the dude home. I just really hate people and having to go outside and spend time driving just already annoys the shit out of me. At least public transit I don't get bothered except for the homeless or people begging but they're avoidable enough rather than the guy tailgating your ass even though you're like 5 miles over the speed limit in the fucking slow lane.

I can't own a property because I'm busy owning a car and don't earn enough to afford both.
So not only am I spending more on travel time (because cars are the norm thus everything is farther apart), I don't have a proper living space and I need to pay for upkeep and gas for a car.
I don't think the problem is you don't understand.
I think the problem is that understanding the argument is inconvenient to you.

Thos areas don't have police on beats because the cops are all driving around in cars. I lived in a city that had a walkable downtown area, and the businesses actually came together to spend money on private police (they just walk around giving people directions and shoo away homeless people mostly) and it made the area remarkably safer. Immediately outside that area though is where the homeless people hang out.

honestly it's also related to the car talk but I wish for the fall every fucking day. some days I can break through but I swear most days I hate people more and more and more. I wish a meteor can strike the earth right now. It's weird because people say I'm a positive guy or I can hang out with friends smile laugh and make jokes but internally I'm just seething and want everyone to be free from suffering.
>>
>>739652746
That's the beautiful thing about life. You're going to die no matter what. You're going to experience death whether you like it or not. So you may as well focus on the good things in life, cultivate your spirit, and nurture your ethics and morals because whether there's an afterlife or not, it's all coming to an end eventually.
The Calendar system was made specifically so the words "You have ONE YEAR" in the beginning have weight. Soon after that statement, the MC goes into a week long coma and you see a massive rush of time blink by in an instant. Persona 3 is masterful at making you feel like "time is running out", but that soon turns into "I'm making progress!"
Death is a soothing thought, IMO. Partially because of all the bad things in life, and also because I want to know what's next, if anything.

I ended up getting my driver license at 34 and never was asked for it on any job, and now I don't have a car anymore either. Driving your own car in a world tier 1 city is totally useless. There's a subway station every 500m and buses everywhere that are faster on most journeys, and you can read or check the interwebs instead of stressing at the wheels. Parking alone costs half as much as a taxi/uber for any less direct route.
>>
>>739653009
True but at this point other people always ruin my life, even when I'm happy. Someone has to always bring it down. I'm tired of that, I just honestly feel like end everyone's suffering now. What's the point of living if there's no future anymore? Yeah I know there can be, there's always opportunities but it's just feels like fishing and I'm never getting any bites no matter how hard I try. Weather is always gloomy even most days where I break through and laugh it off the next day is rainy again. I just hate people so much man. Living in a low trust society like Toronto has made me so fucking bitter it hurts.

Does medication unironically help for this? I sorta want to go on antidepressents but at the same time the feelings I have are so raw I don't want to lose them or neuter them just because it makes me feel like shit.

I know how you feel. I was in a rut like that. Without trauma dumping on you, I'm certain something emotional inside me permanently broke at some point and I haven't been able to cry since I was a child.
But anger is an incredible motivator, better than you can possibly imagine, and every emotion you feel good and bad is important and you should let them run its course and not try to reject them.
I've seen the kinda shit happening in Toronto and my sympathies go out to you. I met a guy who was like a fuckin' angel one time and one of the best men I've ever been friends with my whole life and he moved to Toronto shortly before all this started happening.
The medical industry is an industry, drugs are meant as treatments to make money, not to be cures. What I have won't be cured because it makes more money being treated instead.

Hold on to those feelings and rationalize them as an important part of you, then let go of the parts that no longer serve you. I'd like to say "it's going to get better" but who's to say really. Just work on yourself and be ready to make choices if opportunities do arise, and make the choice that feels the most "you" in the moment.

Yeah... that's true I think bottling up my anger most of the time caused me to be insanely bitter instead of releasing it but now I really don't even know how to release it healthy. I just fucking ghost anything that pisses me off (and it's usually work related so that's not helping me at all). I'm working on removing the bad mojo things but it's hard. As I said no matter how many times I break through and go "yeah life isn't so bad." it comes crashing down again and I just seem to go into this negative spiral. I hope you get better soon as well. I do agree it's not healthy to think like this but at the same time, what's even healthy anymore? Maybe this whole world should just burn itself down if it's going to be just bringing people down. Maybe our souls are truly weighed by gravity and we will never be free from humanity's greed and lust for power.

Speaking about SMT:
Honestly I started playing SMT 4 again and I forgot how great the atmosphere is. Still a little disappointed with how much it shits the ball but it is what it is. Is there any youtuber that talks about it extensively like lore discussion and how it references both SMT1/2 with the music, outlines of certain things or even discussion about it and 4A and how it's hinted in the side material and stuff like that? I'm genuinely surprised this type of discussion is lacking for 4. All the videos I see are just "THIS IS A HARD POKEMON GAME FOR HARDCORE FANS" AND "LIKE NOCTURNE BUT COOLER DID I MENTION NOCTURNE??? YOUTUBE ALGORITHM YOU HEARD ME SAY NOCTURNE RIGHT??? THIS AINT YOUR DADDY'S BASIC FINAL FANTASY THIS IS SMT" (meanwhile the game breaks in half right after minotaur. Although I remember my playthrough some of the bosses made me have a bit of a rough time)

But I am actually genuinely surprised at how lacking these games have in terms of actual in depth discussion in comparison to fucking 5 of all things.

i wouldn't even mind having cars if getting a car wasn't the most asinine shit possible

>typically can't buy direct from manufacturers because of old ass laws in the 1920's and now dealerships are absurdly powerful, have a lot of influence in states who aren't incentivized to go against it because they get a lot of revenue from dealerships even if it fucks over the average joe
>go to a dealership? enjoy having to deal with actual scummy salespeople who will do everything they can to fuck you out of your money so you can pay them as much as possible
>sure, sometimes some people get lucky, they get a good deal (they think) or they got one over the salesman, but vast majority of people don't get that and most Americans feel they got screwed over in some way when buying from a dealership
>sometimes they'll just throw extra fees to see if they can get away with it
>you have to do a whole ass ritual and strategy to make sure you're not getting fucked which is fucking retarded, it's one thing to be considerate of the prices and make educated choices on what you need, it's another to have to deal with money grubbing subhumans trying to convince you to use their financing, their packages, and they'll do bullshit like stall it to make you impatient and sign shit, etc
>buying used is SOMEWHAT better but can still be a clusterfuck, especially if you're buying "as is" as you better have a mechanic friend or feel comfortable enough with mechanical knowledge to trust the car you're buying

Humans have been doing that for a long time over all sorts of issues.
Black Plague is the example. The people in charge then did not fund cures or want to help the sick. It became a statistic to people even back then. People dying has been a metric to advance humans in all of our history. How do you think we know certain berry's are poisonous? Because 1 human took the Tree Berry challenge. If you sit in the train for 30 minutes every morning for about 9 months and the same person sits right there at the same time you become familiar and eventually conversational with each other. After the initial small talk you start talking about your day etc and eventually you find a connection (in my case books) and then inevitably you hang out outside of the train and we ended up dating.
