Destiny 2 cancelled their May content update, rolling what's been completed into a final content patch. With the performance of Marathon finally revealed in Sony's 2026 earnings report, its completely over for Bungie. Sony marked them down as a $750~ million USD loss in total in 2025. What's more:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-05-21/bungie-plans-layoffs-after-ending-destiny-2-development
"The company doesn't have a new project lined up for Destiny 2's development team after the game comes to an end next month"

The wider company is being left in the dark as to what's planned for the future, which will be executive bonuses/parachutes and mass layoffs.

Its over.

Press F to pay respect to the legends that once were, and/or spit on their replacements.

This is the worst place to be in as an employee. YJK entire departments are going to get 0 day notice sacked on a friday.

Bungie wont die. Everyone said they were dead after they made their last Halo. Then out came Destiny. Then Destiny 2. They're still here. Still putting out games. You have no idea what they have coming. When will you learn?
>>
I can understand that consumers don't get the concept, but how the fuck do these publishing companies shilling out hundreds of millions of dollars not understand that a 20 year old dev studio isn't going to have the talent that launched them out of obscurity in the first place?
A dev studio that's had almost all of it's original members retired/left should be a humongous red flag.
People are making 6 figures and still making these mistakes.
>>
>>739621947
they should have gotten the memo after seeing the disastrous reception of marathon

I can't believe Pete managed to fleece Sony of $3.6 billion and get a golden parachute and laugh his way to the bank.

Truly a guy that would make Bobby Kotick blush.

>>739622482
Publishers are just as obsessed with IPs as their consumers, for different reasons.
Bethesda fans are still waiting for that Skyrim 2 just like how Microsoft is waiting for Bethesda to release a "Skyrim 2" that will convince people to renew their Game Pass subscriptions forever AND to keep buying creation points™ every week.
>>
>>739622807
Between Sony, disgruntled Bungie devs, and pissed off destiny fans this guy should be watching his back for the rest of his life people have been killed for less

>>
>>739624335
Bungie fans love to get scammed (guess who didn't uninstall the game after Bungie started deleting paid content?), Sony still believes in Marathon so it's safe to assume they are ok with this disaster, and actual "Bungie devs" left the company years ago anyway.

sony got scammed and snoys will have to pay to make up for it
>>
>>739624849
From everything that has come out this far, it sounds like Pete and his friends (the other execs) hatched a plan back in the late 2010s when they came into power at Bungie to get the place in a state where they can sell it, cash out, and fuck off on golden parachutes.

Say what you want, but it sounds like they all got what they wanted, and it was basically a pump and dump with Bungie's normal employees and Sony left holding the bag.

I'd love to see some shit come out that gives Sony grounds to sue them and get their money back from people like Pete. That'd be funny.
>>
>>739622116
After Destiny came out? Marathon. A game we know is a flop. With no other game in production. Not at all the same thing.
>>
>>739622116
>You have no idea what they have coming.
We do actually. It's just a slow drip of Marathon content and nothing else.
>>
>>739625881
>We do actually. It's just a slow drip of Marathon content and nothing else.
Historically they don't make content expansions for failed video games.
>>
>>739625561
Unless they lied about Destiny 2's numbers, there is no recourse. The boomers running Sony thought these IPs were more valuable than they are. I recall listening to something in 2022 that insinuated that with western sci-fi franchises collapsing (star wars, halo, etc), they could fill the gap with an IP with a cleaner record like Destiny or Marathon. Unfortunately the studios are too pozzed to come up with a good sci-fi setting or game in general.

He's no idiot. He is an asshole who came into Bungie as a Marketing/finance dude, and he gamed the company by putting himself in the safest position and bamboozled publisher after publisher until it turned out negative results and then he fled with a golden parachute.
Every other higher up at Bungie were highly invested in company stocks, and every fired employee, whether it was Jamie Greisemer, Marty, Harold Ryan, Joe Staten, Joe Blackburn or anyone else that flew high inside Bungie in the interim, were forcibly robbed of all their stock when exiting the studio. Greisemer was right on the doorstep to vest them when the managers confiscated them, and they only ever mattered to whoever had the CEO title.

Historically you don't intentionally kill your golden goose after releasing one of it's biggest and most acclaimed expansions (The Final Shape) to shift all development resources over to a new game that has experienced nothing but development setbacks either but here we are.

>>739629948
I thought Final Shape still didn't make a profit because of how expensive Bungie was, though? 800 people in Seattle working for years isn't cheap.
>>
>>739622116
That's bullhunkey, bogus, why do you talk about things you obviously don't know about. Nobody thought Bungie was 'dead' after Halo. In fact it was a breath of fresh air to see a dev not cling to a franchise and running it into the ground, the idea that one could go independant again and do something new... then they signed to Activision... still nobody though they were going down, they might make some miss-step somewhere but nothing like today where its like they actively make all the worst choices humanly possible.

These grew on me.
>Halo 2's E3 Demo not being playable in game
The E3 demo is playable now and it sucks.
>Arbiter backlash
Who cares.
>'To war.'
Halo 3 is poorly written.
>halo 3 assault rifle is awful
True. The SMG is a straight upgrade from the AR even when single wielded.
>halo 3 maps mostly sucked
Nah. The bigger issue was the lack of BTB maps, and Sandbox and most of its variants being dogshit.
>Halo 3 equipment was really meh
Skill issue. The tripmine works fine, it was OP in the beta.
