I just used open Morrowind.
>>
>>739648680
it's a bethesda game either way, you should just skip it
>>
>>739648680
unmodded you fucking zoomer heathen
>>
>>739648680
Only with fixes for like stability if you have any issues like mentioned open Morrowind is a very stable option too but I would then advise you to get the patch for purists for the OG experience with stability, see you in Balmora muth sera
>>

fpbp and /thread
>>
>>739648680
Not OP but I recently booted this up for the first time and was pretty enchanted by it. Then I fought something. So is the key to this game to just not engage with the combat?
>>
>>739648680
I'm like 70 hours into my first time playing this game and just running openMW with no mods has been great. If I knew how to install mods (I'm too lazy to look it up) I would just get one that lets me hotkey spells to specific buttons and mouse buttons. I could fit like 6 or 8 more spells on binds and I wouldn't have to look at my spell menu as much I think it would just be better so I would recommend you do that if you know how to install them or want to
>>
>>739649705
The combat is really good. If you're missing everything at level 1 it means
>your fatigue bar is low
>you don't have any weapon skill for the weapon type
If you picked a weapon type in a major skill and actually have that weapon and have a full or nearly full fatigue bar, even at level 1 combat is good. It gets better as your stats go up because the game is an rpg

Honestly it has really good combat man you'll be surprised the engine is better than oblivion or skyrim you'll realize when you play a bit more
>>
Note: do NOT use Patch for Purists. It introduces as many bugs as it fixes.
>>
>>739649984
You can already hotkey 1-9.
>>
>>739650072
>the engine is better than oblivion or skyrim you'll realize when you play a bit more
ehhh I got to disagree.
its lack of physics for objects is useful in that it prevents such physics from causing lag (and you cannot put pots on people's heads anymore) and the engine is the original source of the limitations on bethesda city sizes.
the systems running on the game engine are (mostly) superior, not the engine itself.
>>
>>739650156
and that's not enough
1. Levitate
2. Fortify Speed
3. Heal
4. Ranged damage (i swap the element/school based on enemies)
5. Touch damage (same deal)
6. Summon whatever my most common summon is
7. Mark
8. Divine intervention
9. Recall (I'm playing Atronach so I need to use these 3 spells a lot to restore mana)

There are like a half dozen other spells I use often enough it's a pain not to have them hotkeyed like
>light/nighteye
>paralyze
>ranged paralyze
>more damage spells, aoe damage spells
I just want a few more hotkeys but i also don't mind opening my spell list, it's very rpg which is cool i could just do it a little bit less and be happier
>>
>>739650072
I just figured it was a wizards game or something and that's what everyone who loved it played as.
>>
>>739650295
well maybe I don't know what an engine is, but I mean how the game responds to your inputs and how moving through the game feels. Morrowind has unfortunate collision physics in narrow places, which can be cringe, but can also be sort of based, like I got trapped in a crypt by a ghost in a corner with no mana to hit it and no weapon types to hit it and had to like cower there until i used a scroll to teleport out, felt like a real situation an adventurer might encounter in a crypt and was cool. I've also been trapped between npcs and smacked to death which felt good too, that's what would really happen
>>
>>739648680
Vanilla. Ignore mod niggers. I would recommend you play Morrowind for a few hours and level up and then install Tribunal and Bloodmoon for the patches. Also there are some extra plugins you can download that used to be on the official Morrowind site. They should be in the elder scrolls wiki.
>>
>>739650394
nah martial builds are probably more effective for general combat, just clicking your sword on someone costs no resources and does more damage than most destruction spells

Magic is super good in every way though, but a lot of the game for me is just making a build that feels roleplay-y and doing stuff like that rather than just making the strongest build to win the game. It's a pretty easy game and you're not competing with anyone. melee combat is fun though you'll like it when you play/practice it more
>>
>>739649705
Take "breaths" between attacks so your stamina returns or drink stamina potions. As you grow stronger the stamina thing becomes less of a problem.
>>
>>739650591
>>739650643
Last question. Is it worth exploring underwater or am I wasting my time? I went with a lizard man. So I could breath indefinitely underwater cause underwater secrets are my jam.
>>
>>739650731
I'm doing a sneak argonian playthrough on the side and I've been having a lot of fun doing underwater exploration. But I've only played that character a bit so i couldn't tell you
>>739650643
Also
press the wait hotkey periodically to refresh fatigue, waiting takes literally 1 second and all your fatigue returns
turn off auto walk before you engage in combat and after you finish fights in a cave or dungeon
>>
>>739650731
Yes, there ARE things underwater to find BUT there are also things that can kill you.

Forgot, see those little X marks on the west coast? I wonder what's there... ;)
>>
Anyone who tells you to avoid mods for an elder scrolls game is a fool. The games have a deliberate lack of content to accommodate mods.
>>
>>739651187
>they will never sell boxed rpgs made by the most talented game developers containing big physical map posters and thick manuals detailing all the skills and races and stats and a notepad so you can write notes in game ever again
What went so wrong?
>>
>>739650474
>how the game responds to your inputs and how moving through the game feels
more a combination of the controls, animation/sounds, and atmosphere with morrowind, I would say.
they did a really good job with making the "atmosphere" of morrowind that just sort of sucks you in as you move through the game and it responds to your inputs, like you said.
That "atmosphere" was what MADE bethesda.
That was its brand for so many years after morrowind.
The feel of "just moving through" the game.
But as you noticed, they failed to make it as good with the later games.
>>
>>739649984
>If I knew how to install mods (I'm too lazy to look it up) I would just get one that lets me hotkey spells
you can already do that without mods
>>
>>739651940
you only get 9 though and I have more than 9 things i frequently use
it would also be sick if i could like set
1 - fireball
alt 1 - frostbolt
shift 1 - lightning bolt

etc, but i dunno if mods let you do that. I play classic wow with like 45 keybinds. I don't want that many in morrowind but i would like more than 9
>>
>>739649984
>>739652030
oh nvm I see you are already running openMW
uhhhhh you do need a mod for that still, I was wrong and stupid.
I think the common mod is "Hotkeys Extended"
>>
>>739652256
oh nice it does let you use modifiers too I'll get it sometime when i feel like learning how to install them as im lazy and stupid
>>
Openmw means you never beat it btw

Sony and Microsoft. I'm not kidding. They shoved money into the pockets of devs/publishers so they would get lazy. Nintendo was the last one still packing games with manuals.

Abusing alchemy is not an exploit in a world full of overconfident wizards who fly too close to the sun. Cheesing vendor restocks to get netch leather and ash yams is, however.
>>
>>739648680
vanilla, I copy paste my install between computers for decades
>>
>>739648680
I use the I Heart Vanilla modlist with OpenMW, which is both modded and vanilla. Mostly bugfixes and very minor quality of life stuff. Still the same game.
>>
>>739657028
But at what point does it become cheese that they restock? Like logically vendors would resupply at some point in the game world because almost all alchemy ingredients are biological renewable resources. Ash yams and netch leather in particular are very common ones.

Hlaalu really is proven to be the worst at every turn in Morrowind.
>saint of your people has been reincarnating, trying to save you from both false gods and an ethereal demon who wants to mindrape you all
>he reincarnated as a woman this time and could only get help from your house after one of your highest-ranking officials - an imperial to boot - demanded a sexual favor in exchange for sponsorship
Glad they were basically wiped out after the Red Year, it was wholly deserved.
>>
>>739660519
Doggy style with a hairy pussied Dark Elf WHEN??
>>
play it in VR and main unarmed + levitate so every cliff racer fight is like a dragon ball z scene then fly over to a rock in the middle of the ocean and meditate to the sun going down. no mods only vr mode.
>>
>>739660959
That's incorrect. You don't have to strip to be Hlaalu hortator. You only have to do it to rise in Hlaalu's ranks after joining.

Yes, underwater exploration is worth it, but still don't just swim out into the middle of the ocean and expect to find something on the bottom. But there will be plenty of flooded caves or sunken ships that you could find valuable things inside of, that would otherwise be difficult to explore for someone that does not have water breathing potions or magic.
>>
>>739665512
I appreciate you sharing this, but... just because Bethesda would have done it doesn't mean we should....
>>
>>739650072
>>The combat is really good
Uhh what
It's literally just auto attacking while standing in place
There is no stamina management, you just rest between fights and spend all the stamina at once
It's literally worse than level 1 WoW combat, and by level 2 when you get 2 abilities, WoW combat beats Morrowinds
>>
>>739665512
I'm not interested in using the mod but I'm very interested in how they made it so I can make the NPCs say my own lines

then if you find you like the game, install TR, PT and any other interesting mods for subsequent playthroughs

there's mods that change the walking, combat and casting animations
as well as one that lets your see your equipped weapon and shield on your back, just need to set up the options for it in the OpenMW launcher after downloading

How is the consensus around Tribunal and Bloodmoon? I hated Tribunal and the Bloodmoon quest with the five stones drove me nuts.

Bloodmoon mod that makes the island not hideous is mandatory, haven't used a mod to make the difficulty less retarded but maybe I will.
I like the quests on it and the equipment is cool.
Tribunal on the other hand I'd love a complete overhaul. Insane enemies, shitty dungeons, but I can't wait to be able to walk to mournhold. One fucking day.

>>
>>739650072
>The combat is really good.
Btw when Morrowind release, the combat was seen as worse than Daggerfall (due to not being tactile or satisfying or varied or fun) and worse than literally any other RPG too both regarding tactile properties, action-wise and of course its complete absence of tactics and strategy
>>
>>739659870
The certain vendors that immediately restock whatever item, say Ash Yams, to whom you can then resell your ash yams, doubling their stock ad infinitum. Not sure why Openmw preserved that bug and the specific vendors it affects other than it being so esoteric that you're unlikely to find it naturally.
