It had actually fun dialogue and there was reason to explore and try random shit. Like dumping that grenade down the well.

So sick of games with no hidden fun anymore.

What a weird character. It's like bringing your older brother into a game with your friends just to watch him destroy everyone disinterestedly.

Great writing, cool underutilized setting in gaming, the inclusion of some Zoroastrian stuff was really neat and unexpected as someone not familiar with that part of the world at all, let alone that time frame, very well balanced combat that while not particularly hard, had me thinking about my resources and actually using them, and tying stat gains to armor sorta like Shadow Tower and foregoing levelups entirely was a really interesting design choice. The soundtrack was also not what I was expecting going into it and I still listen to it alongside other OSTs I listen to tracks from all the time like Ys, SMT, or Xanadu. The short run time was also pretty nice as it makes it easier for me to recommend it to people, although I do wish I had more to do in the game. At the very least I know there's interactions I missed like >>739656826 what was mentioned there, so I do have things to look for on a replay.

I always prefer games that do this over the traditional RPG leveling system, at least for ARPG's and whatnot. I never know exactly what the right move is in terms of stat distribution especially if there's a generic health or vitality skill.

Specifically placed upgrades throughout the game is always much more clear and concise

The artstyle is unique and high quality. Dialogue is great. The soundtrack is too. It's a high effort RPGM game with a unique setting. Bonus points for being good and not using stock assets. Not that I mind those but everything being hand made makes it all that more memorable.

>>
>>739671810
I studied literature in the UK and graduated with 1st class honors (summa cum laude equivalent).
When we weren't busy with classics or American Lit., I focused on stuff mostly between the Tudor period and Romanticism.
I blame Cartoon Network, Discovery Channel, and my aunt feeding me a steady supply of English books for growing up with this affinity.

well, that's simply not true, among the fairly obscure ones that are mentioned once in a while on /v/ I liked The Way by Lun Calsari, despite the jankiness, the narrative and the world of the game is by far my most favorite one out of all rpgmaker games.

He does not negotiate.

Anyway I just found the game to be an extremely memorable passion project from someone. It’s very lean, but still has a lot of flavor to the graphics and dialog. It does a fantastic job of handling tone. Combat could have been a bit tougher, but fortunately does not overstay its welcome. I was pleasantly surprised by how many hidden side quests there actually were if you want to 100% the game. On a replay I immediately went to the basement and got jumped by the cult.

I actually don't remember what happens in Felvidek. I remember a naked drunk guy falling off a bridge and a few other minor details but that's it. I recall having fun though and that's all that matters. I also recall that you could throw bottles of Frndzalica at your enemies, primarily because I actually went ahead and purchased a bottle of it and enjoyed it. It's pretty good, it's basically a sort of rye whiskey, would recommend.

Literally unfunny redditor humor, yet "/v/" likes it
Or is it just some /vpol/tards?
>>
>>739667176
It's typical /v/tard mentality to isolate newfags by pretending they are so familiar with the game.
While there are some retards who actually played it, they don't actually want to discuss the game at all, just circlejerk about whether it is "the best" game or not.
Performative bullshit.
>>
>>739686598

It was one of the first games in a very long time to really light a fire in me about what I love about video games. Everything is so naturally and painstakingly done in intentional ways that it feels like a real labor of love from a single creator who knows EXACTLY what he wants executed.

The overall best part of the game is that it acknowledges that despite playing its world completely straight, it presents it in an unconventional way from the perspective of an alcoholic. You're quite literally *playing* a folk tale as it's being told to you, and as the narrator gets drunker, the story gets more and more wild and fantastical and sentimental.

Can't wait for the DLC, apparently he finished writing it a couple weeks ago.

>>739687195
There were jews living there. Putting them into a ghetto for narrative reasons is pretty normal artistic license that every historical fiction does.
Why do you "fans of historical accuracy" never complain that the main villain died before sacking of Skalitz. That Skalitz was much bigger and it was a town, not a village? That there was never any siege of Suchdol in 1403? That Zizka wasn't involved in this conflict at all and wasn't even in the country in 1403? That Konrad Kyeser never went to Sasau? That Radzig Kobyla was a robber baron instead of an honorable knight?
It's always just about the Jews. I wonder why.
>>
>>739688757
You should give it a try. I intentionally kept it fairly straightforward during the edit so ESLs wouldn't have to struggle too hard. Some instances of the period grammar are actually incorrect specifically to make it more readable for the average player.
