Is there an easy way to describe that feeling of curiosity when looking at old 2d video game backgrounds. Sonic and Mario especially do it the most for me. Like obviously the stage is fun but looking at the shit in the background always makes me think "I wonder what it's like if the character went there, what would the level be like"It's always the curiosity of what's beyond those artificial borders the game establishes.
