Gradius already had semi-interesting environments you kind of navigate through and it used powerups like experience points. But in bullet hells, the bullets are the level.

I've thought a bit about what a popular shmup would be like, one which still maintains the ideas of a shmup, and "ZeroRanger but CAVE" is what I basically came up with. Cinematic moments with mechanics to keep casual players going, which could obviously be disabled. I don't think many casuals want to go into a game on the easiest possible difficulty. Or just have some streamers play it and add some hype moments for the Shorts and call it a day lol that's genuinely the best advertising for any game nowadays
>>739674047To answer your first question about daisaijou and dodonpachi3 then, daisaijou doesn't exist; you have saidaioujou (released after resurrection) and daioujou (released before, that's dodonpachi 3 but nobody calls it that)Both are kind of cleaner than resurrection, resurrection tends to go crazy on bullet cancelling and hyper, as well as auto bombing.Saidaioujou also have auto bombs but all your stock is used when you get hit so you can't cheese the game as much.Vibe-wise daioujou is much colder and steampunk, while saidaioujou is flashy-neon (but slightly less colorful/hyper than resurrection).Give them a try if you wanna know more anon! They both work on PC either via shmupmame (regular mame doesn't work for saidaioujou due to a C&D) or fbneo

These console versions have stage selects which allows you to train without restarting the full game over, and then you can come back later at the arcade to show off your trainingYou can't get the "real experience" from training without savestates anyway, because you are not losing real money for each credit you push in the emulator, as that changes a lot how someone approaches a game
