Windows 10 bros. it's over.
>>
Oh noes, they won't test the game for W10
There's probably still people playing it on 7 just fine
>>
This is the kinda shit SKG should've been about, not live service slop.

They said the same about resident evil 9 requiem and I just finished that on my W10 machine (pirated, cracked by voices 38)
>>
>>739671450
There likely won't be any problem running them on 10 that didn't already exist. Win10's out of official, regular support, so it makes sense for them to say the platform's not targeted or supported anymore.
Got a lot of cheek making a SSD minimum with the rising prices though. We'll see how that works out for them later on.
>>
>>739671518
not to mention you can still access the last build of the game prior to the raytracing update under beta branches
>>
>implying devs test anything for w11 either
>>
Isn't this a 2015 game? Why does it require a 1660 minimum?
>>
>>739671676
Counter point, when majority of people bought this game w11 wasn't even out.
Mandatory updates that break the software for existing user base should be illegal.
We should be able to stay on the version of the software we want to use without resorting to piracy.
>>
>>739671584
the world would be objectively better off if microsoft never updated windows ever again and it all withered away
>>
System requirements is about testing the game on the oldest PC they can find. Nobody is using a 10 year old windows 10 PC anymore to test it. So no surprise here.

>>

That's not really reasonable, you can't claim an entitlement to DLC and updates

Imagine if Blizzard was obliged to still ensure the game worked on '98
>>
>>739672036
Exactly.
- W10 is a security vulnerability nowadays.
- Upgrading from W10 to W11 is still free.

No excuses.
>>
>>739671883
a new version of the game with support for raytracing, dlss etc was released for free a while back, which runs like shit compared to the original even with all new features turned off

the original build of the game is still downloadable, but this new dlc is probably only compatible with the new one

How is the preservation of the Witcher 3 at stake? Nothing stopping you from running an original copy of the game, or a copy of any other snapshot of its patch history. SKG is about the nooses around the necks of games from online dependancies

the Next Gen Update also caused a rift in mods because some were never updated to the Next Gen compatible, and some newer ones aren't tested for the older pre-update build.
raytracing looked cool but it SHIT on performance. turning raytracing on always does but it was especially heavy cost to turn on in Witcher 3.

Trying to call functions from system dlls that aren't in the older system, must be something related to playing cutscenes.
Pretty much all incompatibility of games with win7 is coming from writing and building code dependent on newer libraries that are built for newer OS. This could be avoided if devs used old version of engines/libraries and compiled for older frameworks, but there's no incentive to do that when almost everyone switches to newer.
>>
>>739675778
What makes you think I want the jeet-made expansion?

Windows 10 is less than 20% market share in most countries now, the 80-20 rule means they can just make most of their revenue by not having to support an OS that doesn't have guaranteed secure boot and TPM.

Two things
1) there's no way this new shit will be made for the old, non-"enhanced" version of the game

>>
>>739671450
Why is this even legal? I purchased the game in 2015 and ran it on the hardware I had then. It is a singleplayer game. There is no reason I should not be able to run the original game and DLCs on the same hardware I had in 2015. Retroactively making a finished product into something else that won't run on the same hardware should be as criminal as the grocery store coming to my house to take food out of my fridge.

Windows defaults are impressively bad. In KDE the defaults like Gwenview and Haruna (for picture viewer and media player respectively) aren't that great, but they do the job and it doesn't feel painful to use. I have no idea how Microsoft picture viewer software has been completely unusable for as long as I remember. I know it was absolute dogshit in 11 and 10, but I'm pretty sure it was no better in 7 either, I just don't remember.

You'd think that's a simple application to get right. All you have to do is display pictures. Windows Media player is not even worth talking about, it's so bad it feels like you're transported to another dimension where everything is shit.

problem is that w11 is fucking dogshit and w10 is at least usable
it's just like people who don't want to stop using w7 because its successors were plainly worse.
maybe by the time w12 comes out, w11 will finally be good
or maybe people will have to skip w11 and go for w12 because it's better (implying)
but i'm not switching to w11 as it currently stands
>>
>>739689260
correct
this thread is to make fun of the idiots who think windows 11 has "requirements" other than a cpu made after 2008
>>
>>739689360
I remember back in the day skipping every other windows because they leaned, but I think every windows after 8 is totally fucked. nothing has gotten better. I literally had to spend 2 days crippling win10 to make it usable, and everything after is going to be riddled with bullshit drm, AI, and shitty fucking programing.

You're right. W10 isn't that great either, but it's good enough (for me) that it will hold me over. Before that, I stuck to W7 for a long time (when W10 was complete garbage).
Feels like every time a Windows version gets somewhat usable, they retire it and make a new completely garbage riddled with bugs version to replace it.

Windows 10 was trash from start to finish. It never became "usable", you're just experiencing confirmation bias which is induced by the fact that you were a late adopter rather than an early user - you're tolerating it now so you think it was made better over time to become acceptable to you, when in reality it was always acceptable to you, you just had no reason to move on from Windows 7 before.
I used 10 since it was first released.

It doesn't really matter why, you're going to be forced to move on sooner or later no matter what when it comes to Windows. It is literally impossible to continue to use old versions of Windows with latest hardware and software.
>>
>>739689639
W10 was always garbage dude. They used literal malware tactics to force people into it. People who don't have a problem with W10 don't actually have a problem with W11 beyond the fuck you hardware requirement.

all problems with linux are now just external
it doesn't come preinstalled, nvidia's drivers are shit with no change in sight, some games are hellbent on embedding spyware into your pc and professional software developers are refusing to port shit
there's absolutely nothing anyone working on linux can do to improve things
it's a prisoner's dilemma, if all the people hesitating just moved it'd all get fixed within a month

There's no reason the game wouldn't launch on Windows 10. They're just not gonna support it by writing articles about how to troubleshoot the game on Windows 10. This isn't a DX12 situation with Windows 7. It would actually be insane for the game to simply not run on Windows 10.

Most people, including /v/, wouldn't see any difference after migrating to it. I'm personally holding off because they neutered the taskbar and don't allow small icons with multiple levels anymore, and the update that was supposed to fix it just readded the name unfolding, which is useless without the other features.

All of the most commonly used elements of the OS (Explorer, Start menu, Settings menu etc.) are measurably slower on Windows 11, and even if they weren't, they still require extra clicks and menu navigation to get the same result as previous windows versions.
For me the Windows taskbar is unusable without 7 taskbar tweaker, the default behaviour is simply retarded and Microsoft doesn't allow you to change it, and the new version of Explorer doesn't support such extensive modifications via third party software.

Two things:
1.The security updates are until 2032, not 2035
2.People found out a few months ago that the security updates for LTSC builds of Windows 10 are also being vibe coded with AI, as they ran into the same issues that windows 11 users were having.
In other words, you are not safe from Microsoft's retardedness no mater what.

>Mandatory updates that break the software for existing user base should be illegal.
>We should be able to stay on the version of the software we want to use without resorting to piracy.

This. Capcom did the same shit with Resident Evil 7 and 2 Remake and had to put the earlier versions back because of backlash. Once you buy a game for a particular platform there should never be anything done to it that breaks compatibility with that platform.
