Over the course of a week I beat Dark Deity 1 and 2. DD1 was a pretty mediocre game, and I mean that in every regard. Story, characters, gameplay, sprites, maps, etc. DD2 was an improvement in every single facet save one, and I actually enjoyed my time with it for about 2/3 of my playthrough. Too bad it was way, way worse in terms of characters. They were insufferable and miserable the entire time. I understand they're fighting a war or whatever, but they no joke, spent literally half the game doing nothing but yelling and getting mad at each other for.. Some reason.
