How do you enjoy game stories?
>>739728771It's a visceral immersive participatory experience in a different way from books, music, and movies, and it can combine elements of all three of those with agentic feedback loops which increase the weight of story beats, themes, dramatic moments etc. Some game stories are very well done.

>>739729037Quistis was always a sexy woman.
>>739729907agreed. She's my type. Smart, laid back, affectionate but not controlled by emotions. Pensive. Quiet but assertive. Prepared to wield a whip, but more for a fun than out of a domineering impulse.
>>739728771"It all happened" is literally impossible with long-running franchises. Things always get retconned with enough sequels. The longer a series goes on for the worse everything gets, too.
>it all happened
>>739730236You can go the retard route and go "yeah everything's canon in parallel universes" like pokemon
>>739730780Parallel universes are gay. If it's a good story it's worth appreciating. It's not that complicated. Caring about a "true canon" is also gay.
>>739728771>"Why yes. My understanding of the canon is based on a story I read on fanfiction.net. Why do you ask?"
>>739728771Why is it still hard for people to get Zelda continuity?Civilizations come and go. Numerous Messianic figures way before Jesus. Civilizations exists before Great Flood. Jesus and Muhammad were 500 years apart, Moses was 1500 years before Jesus. That's how big the gap between us now and Jesus' time. Gilgamesh was 3000 years before Jesus. The Egyptian myth and kingdom rose not long after ,same fucking Trinity, Christ-like / Messianic figures and symbolism. Buddhism came just before Christianity and it reached the West, Greco-Roman empires before it even reached China. Gospel of John wrote on Jesus and it was written in Greek. It was the languange for the Roman because it was already established as the lingua franca, they were bilingual but they used Greek formally and books are written in Greek. So what did John do? Mimesis. He used the already famous Greek Gods and tales of miracles and replaced them with Jesus instead, very much like the Homelander bible. There's countless figures in Greek mythos akin the Christ but the most prominent one was Dionysus. The Mahabharata has the same exact Genesis stories, same Great War between Kingdom of Heaven and the Fallen Angels, and the same stories of mass departure, emigration as the Exodus. These are the fabled Aryans who fled the Indus Valley, and apparently new studies suggest it's fucking Moses. They passed through Egypt and settled down in ancient Israel, breeding with the ancient Caananites and Hebrews, making the Jews.Noah was exactly when the great flood happened, but Enoch who was his great great grandpapi was waaay before the flood. Enoch was the first man to walk alongside God in Heaven, while still being alive, without dying. Islamic studies has now attributed Enoch to the same Greek Hermes and Egyptian Thoth, making a new amalgamation of figure, Hermes Trismegestus, the thrice-great.
>>739731505Just as they found the Book of Enoch to be a great revelation, telling the story of the actual cause for God's Wrath, unleashing the Great Flood, because the Fallen Angels has bred with the Adam and Eve's offspring, making hybrid demon-babies, demigods. Hermes Trismegestus has the Emerald Tablet, containing the secrets of the universe through alchemy (foundation of all science), divinity (foundation of math), esoteric knowledge / spirtuality (foundation of faith). All the esoteric gnostic mystic branches came from alchemy, and while Hermeticism came after Hellenism (developed and written later) it was actually the beginning since it was attributed to Enoch. Enoch -> Hemes -> Thoth -> Hermes Trismegestus. Pythagoras was taught or derived from Hermes. Almost all the geniuses scientist, polymath took something out of Hermeticism, from Newton to Tesla to Jung.Gods descending down and bestowing knowledge to the normies is a common story across mutliple cultures, and it's always some profound mathematical formula or algorithm, sets of steps that became the foundation to their divination and thus a new religion system is born out of it. The Jade Emperor is Hermes Trismegestus, the Emerald King. It started fucking Daoism. The same fucking math and symbolism, sacred geometry, same shapes. Luminaddy triangles, Star of David, pe tagram, hexagram whatever glyphs, runes, mandalas, across the world. They all derived from same ONE source.Yet they all exist in the same world, same timeline. So why can't Zelda be like that? The Great Flood happened in Wind Waker. Just as the Gods messed with our genes and DNA, genetic experiment, creating humans, hybrid demigods, chimeras etc, so must the creatures evolve, also in Wind Waker. The Kokiri became Korok and fucking Zora turned to fucking birds because the water is toxic LMAO.
>>739728771op pic is literally Blazblue
>>739731572So they come and go, there's ever only one Nerevar (Indoril), and countless of Nerevarine failed, until it was your PC's turn. And still the world needs the HoK/CoC and fucking Dovaahkin in the future to save us from calamity. They're all fucking Messianic. They're all fucking Links.
>>739731505>>739731572>reddit spacingdidn't read
>>739728771My issue with 'it all happened' is that more often than not its used as an excuse to dredge up every little bit of IP into big pandering nostalgiafests.
>>739731079Dream counts as parallel universe retard. So are memories.
>>739731783My balls count as parallel universes.
>>739731225read a 50 chapter epic of some blurb of history in a videogame fanficiton and its fucking wonderful. god damn they really need to kill all game writers now.
>>739731692You don't do "it all happened" at the same time. I just think disregarding stories because "It's not canon." is retarded.
>>739730305>it happened
>>739728771character focused with drama and growthbonus points if there's a rival character you have rematches with
>>739731681He's right you know.
>>739731895Now hold on there faggot, you better link me the source of what you're talking about.
>>739728771Only the original work and whatever you deem to be the best fan work are canon to that work, even if this invalidates decades of author fiat and publisher retardation.>>739731225It's not like it's any worse than the modern post 19th century publishing process of writing a century of licensed fanfiction for Moloch.
>>739728771>>739731225>Start developing a fanfic in my head>Make it super detailed>Create multiple OCs>Invent entirely new lore for game>Visualize a bunch of scenes that happen, being random aura and hype moments>Occassionally forget what is actually canon and what I made up>Never create any actual content, not even writing down stuffIt’s a Touhou fanfic about the JFK assassination
>>739732093siege of shanxi
>>739732008Did not read.
Reality is what I want it to be.
>>739728771Insert another layer where it says "I like my canon more"
>>739732481This but unironically. Every game stands alone, and the canon within each game is whatever I choose to do
>>739732481Every time you load a save you're loading into a different reality.
>>739728771I take it as intended, more or less. The exception is if there is later material that is so fucking stupid that it retroactively ruins something. Then I ignore it. For example: Danganronpa 3. They imply the villain is successful because she is just that charismatic. Turns out it's just because she showed them a tiktok video and it made them go insane. I just pretend it didn't happen.
>Along for the ride>Pretty easy for me to get lost in what's happening but can still enjoy whatever is being presented>Will look up the story explanation by some Youtube bozo later
>>739732876What if the intention isn't clear i.e. Mouthwashing?
>accepts even the most plot hole ridden heap of shit as canon
>>739732721There is a game where that is actually canon, every quickload to cheese RNG or to know an ambush beforehand is canonically the MC losing, blowing her brains out, then quantum immortality jumping to another word line in the recent past with her increasingly encyclopedic foreknowledge.
>>739733220At that point, you're probably supposed to make what you will of it and I'd just make my best reasonable interpretations. I didn't play Mouthwashing though.
>>739728771I ignore texts strewn across the game world and fill in the blanks with my own headcanon.
>>739732481Reality is a spook.
>>739733302This is partly Sekiro and I tried to explain it to /v/ but shits too dumb to comprehend it. It has to do with Sekiro being amnesiac, shattered/fragmented mind/memory and him recalling skewed events or seeing shadows or remnants, and him meditating on the idols to seek the true path or true memory. A "lore accurate" Sekiro would've blaze through all the challenges ez because that's peak Sekiro with all his abilities and knowledge still intact, unshattered by the fallen pillar / amnesia. There's also a movie but we don't talk about that movie because it's rule 1 and rule 2 but the small twist is nothing compared to the larger twist that people are missing. That the whole world is "fake", a "Matrix" of sorts.
>>739728771>Nothing happened
Canon stuff happened but world building introduced in filler or optional stuff also exists.
I don't enjoy much anymore. "Anti psychotics" have stripped most capacity to appreciate anything.
