This fat fuck has been handed the opportunity of a lifetime and he's playing it too safe to take advantage of it. Millions of gamers are starving for new hardware that they can't afford. If he ate the cost and heavily subsidized the Steam Machine he'd gain millions of new users for his non windows platform who'd happily stay put in the valve ecosystem for the next upgrade when prices stabilize. He has the chance to push SteamOS further than he ever could have had hardware prices stayed normal. Where's the Gabe who was ready to sell his house to save Valve?
>>

Valve doesn't need saving. Unlike Sony/Xbox/Nintendo who need to sell hardware, for Valve it's basically just a side hustle.

Also how could they subsidize an unlocked PC without it getting scalped to death?
>>
He's on one of his many yachts the loyal sheep he calls customers that he groomed bought him by purchasing full priced drm/launcher riddled key rentals off his monopoly storefront
Glad everyone's turning on him and pc gaming is dying
>>
valve doesn't need saving, and he doesn't care about making more money
kinda sounds more like you're begging for someone to shake up the console market

Watch this be a crazy IQ play and the steam machine will be cheaper than the 512gb oled steam deck. Everyone will buy one seeing it more as a "deal". They have giga-brain experimental psychologists and economists working at Valve to make these type of decisions. They'll announce it at summer game fest.

Its still on the table. Bumping the price of the deck can be seen as a means of offsetting the losses incurred by selling the steam machine, assuming they go ahead and sell it at a loss now.

Yes. Aren't you?
>>
>>739731592
consolefags deserve to suffer
>>
>>739729716
He's not going to subsidize you jeets
You've already ruined mobile games and AI
>>
>>739729716
Yeah at the end of the day Valve is like every other company where they need to circlejerk each other about how much money per employee they made
>>
>>739731893
Name 5

Or instead he could just continue to do nothing and safely make millions each year by taking 30% of each sale made on Steam.
>>
There's a word for using your dominance in one market to fund an attempt to take over a second market, but it's a word /v/ insists doesn't apply to Valve, thus they won't do this.

>gabe needs to give me a cheap console because uh... he just does, ok?
gabe's not an aggressive businessman.
he lets the quality of his service to the heavy lifting rather than scummy business practices.
attempting to price out the competition is not only one of the worst practices around, but thats exactly what monopolies do.
>>
>>739729716
OP you are right but Gabe is not a true gamer like Iwata

To subsidize hardware sales means to artificially increase the demand of hardware that is already in hyper demand due to AI companies buying literal years of hardware production in advance.
You are fucking retarded.

You own nothing

Have you tried not making your products an inefficient and intrusive spyware, Tim?
>>
>>739729716
Valve is a PC monopoly. They can literally do anything they want with no backlash.

bruh the dude doesnt give a flying fuck, hes off doing real man stuff like surveying the bottom of the ocean.

daily reminder gabe was the only man with the capability of getting as deep as the titan, since he owns the limiting factor deeb sea submersible.

he probably decided to just play with his knives

still makes me giggle that tim is richer and his company makes more money than valve and yet he still gets trounced on for being dogshit lmao.

tims ENTIRE business structure is a free to play game that sells skins to 14 year olds, kek. they dont even sell games, lel, its like 2% of their income

I’m convinced Steam and Gaben are effectively industry plants or double agents.

Think about it this way: the gaming industry, much like the music industry, needed a pressure valve for PC gaming. Steam became that outlet. Some players were pulled in by cheap sales and massive discounts, while the rest, people who could easily pirate games, were kept within this contained ecosystem.

These gamers have always existed somewhat outside the traditional system, and the industry realized it was better to keep them in a controlled bubble rather than let them “contaminate” the mainstream market , the console audience and the 99% of consumers where the real money is made.

That’s why they never truly want PC gaming to expand too far. They’re comfortable keeping it as a niche corner of the market.

They do not want PC gaming to become fully mainstream.

Imagine if Steam and PC gaming reached true mass-market “normie” levels. The console business model could collapse. Piracy would become dramatically more widespread, and industry profits could take a major hit.

So in this view, Gaben’s role is to manage and contain the PC audience — not to push PC gaming into the mainstream. The “master race” branding and premium gatekeeping culture help maintain that separation rather than eliminate it.

He already ate too much
>>
>>739738258
>yep, gabe's just a plant to control the industry
>thats why he provides the best service out of everyone.
>>
>>739729716
>subsidized
why would he do that?
steam is not a subscription service like other console networks
>>

He didn't become a billionaire by being retarded
>>
Don't post pedophiles.
>>
I just looked it up. The ram and ssd in the 1TB OLED Steam Deck cost ~$280 more than they did a year ago.
Is everyone expecting Valve to just eat the added cost? Have people forgotten they aren't nearly as big as MS, Sony, or Nintendo?

>Abandons every IP they've ever made

30%
>This is somehow OK just because they "operate" and maintain a fucking platform.
30% from a 90% discount
>This is somehow OK just because they "operate" and maintain a fucking platform.
Microtransactions because they weren't making enough already and need to earn pennies every time people swap digital cards.

>handed the opportunity of a lifetime
He already took it.
He was a millionaire who could afford to implement and host account based DRM, making PC gaming objectively worse. It was inevitable but it took being filthy rich to be able to do it.

Why would he get less money to push an OS he can't sell?
That's only an opportunity to lose a lot of money.

You retards needs to get your heads out of Gabe's ass and start realising he was a multi millionaire that became a multi billionaire by making PC gaming worse.
He's not your friend, he's nothing like you, he doesn't want to associate with you. He just wants your money.

The closest to you he's ever been is tipping his live aboard engineers, deckhands and stewards on his yachts to impress the multi billionaires he's with.

nah my dad knew him before he left microsoft, he was a fan of bikini car washes, actual adults
