dealing damage to kill players is too simplistic. lets reinvent the wheel. shield systems, limb systems, what are ways to make killing more elaborate?

I’m surprised nobody ever tried War Thunder vehicle damage but on humans. Like the Sniper Elite killcams but as an actual system instead of just visual flavor. Maybe you’d still have health bars but for organs instead.

Death Stranding tells you how much blood you've got left in your body- and that blood is also used to coat your ammunition to make it capable of getting the ghosts to fuck off.

Ragdoll bodies that try to stay in position or move in a motion instead of being animated.

There are ArmA3 mods that introduce a complex damage system that can make players bleed out.

They did that shit with Mechwarrior 3, all it does is people powergaming like boring faggots by always aiming at legs so the mechs instadie. Sure, in humies this could cause a "Last stand" scenario ala Cawadooty, but players absolutely hate that shit.

What the fuck do you think being animated means
>>
instead of a health bar the player can have a deck of cards that gets reshuffled whenever they take damage
>>
>>739743039
What were you thinking when you phoneposted this? Sure what I'm posting could be described as procedural animation, but you should kill yourself for asking that question.
>>
>>739743648
I'm not phoneposting, newnigger
You're the one who said "bodies that move instead of being animated", when moving bodies is literally what animation is. Learn how to properly word your ideas, ESL cunt

As an*, ESL. And anything you could reincarnate into would be an upgrade.

The player is a pious paladin that is protected by his god, just as long as his faith does not waver. Faith damage can be taken from sources such as witnessing preventable suffering, being assaulted by and failing to defend against demonic and other evil forces, failing to hold yourself up to the standards set by your god etc.

As long as you have faith over a certain threshold, you are invincible and can take on anything. However, the real catch is that faith does not regenerate nor can it be recovered in any way, which means that what you have at the start of the game is all the faith you will ever have. At certain percentages of total faith, you lose access to certain powers and features. If it runs out, you fall from grace and lose all of your divine powers and the protection of your god for the rest of the entire game, the faith gauge replaced by a traditional health gauge.

Terrible game design unless it's a 20 minute flashgame or something

Falling from grace wouldn't prevent the player from playing through the game, it would just be a sort of hard mode, as well as an alternative narrative path.

>phoneposting
Don't bother hiding it. It's glaringly obvious from how you format your posts.
>moving bodies
Doesn't take a genius to understand the purpose and ideas behind a post. Reading the whole sentence, you'd understand the context of ragdoll bodies would carry over to moving bodies, implying that the movement and targeted motion comes from the ragdoll physics instead of a handcrafted animation. You could've attacked the idea itself, but you wanted to start an argument for the sake of argument, but couldn't come up with anything interesting. Maybe go back, or kill yourself. It's not working out for you.

This is the meta irl too. You're trained to aim for the pelvis because it's not covered by body armour and a hit will shatter the pelvic bone and drop the target on their face.

There's just no way to make a bipedal mobility kill balanced when it ensures your target can't return fire.
>>
>>739741159
In the game Skald you have two separate health pools, one which drains quicker, representing general weariness and lighter injuries, while the other drains slower and represents major wounds, also being harder to recover.

Limb damage. I think a mix between Deus Ex and MGS3 would be cool. But without too much menuing or with active inventory/repairs, like you should be able to repair your arm while sprinting to the next destination.

Imagine you're a robot and your limbs actually break down, you gotta find shit to repair them with. Most enemies use cyber arms and legs that can be used to fix your own, break down PCs to take stuff to fix your torso/head, take apart cars, break down generators, dismantle radios, that kind of thing.

so its a shield system

I saw a tank sandbox game like that recently, called TANKHEAD
Note that this is not a recommendation for the game, I haven't played it and it's a timed Epic exclusive. Your post just reminded me of it

I vaguely remember one /tg/ game (with zombie dolls?) having a focus on crit.
Like, regular combat would just a really really slow grind, but one or two crit would kill anyone.
And the entire panel of action (other than "I'm whacking the guy in front of me until one of us collapse after a few days of non-stop hitting each other") was to either improve your crit rate or reduce the enemy's.
This resulted in two departure from standard combat:
>huge gambling - you could go all offense and pray your higher crit chance will roll well before the enemies
>huge resources constraints - most stuff increasing your crits cost resources, so not going too strong on the enemy was recommended - at the risk of the fight taking too long and attracting reinforcement / third party attention.
>playing fully defensive meant you could effectively hold the enemy busy for hours, giving plenty of opportunity for distraction/heroic sacrifice/etc

Not sure if it was good *in practice*. /tg/ has a bajillon games that look amazing on the description but that no one play more than once because they turn shit in practice.

Health kits or potions should be slow acting. Regeneration, not instant +50 hp.
And the regen should stop when you get damaged by anything other than DoT to reduce the innate advantage regenerating hp has during combat.

DS2 did that.
The only actual result is that it turn battle healing into a game of "let's run around like a headless chicken until the potion finish".

Vitamin C, taking damage depletes it and you gradually develop scurvy unless you eat enough lemons.
