If you got a shit game, it was whatever because there's 4-5 new games coming out over the next few weeks, and some of them might be good.That doesn't happen now. Releases are spaced out over months, sometimes years. If you got a shit game, you'd be stuck with it for months until a better game comes around. You could fill the gaps with indies, but even they're starting to run into the same problems as the current industry. Games just take too long to make now, they're too spaced out. New IPs don't have the chance to grow with their audiences anymore because a new game you enjoyed at 7 years old won't get a sequel until you're 15.
