There are lots of plotlines to explore non-linearly and the quests are good, they're narrative mixed with humor and a lot of puzzling. They involve a lot more gameplay than ffxiv quests mostly in the form of puzzles and fights, but it's not lazy loot 5 boar asses like wow.The game falls off a bit when you're done with all the questing and moving towards endgame content because some of the droprates and grinds are pretty brutal if you're not "special" in the head but you can get hundreds of fun hours. It's crazy how the only real prospect the MMO genre had was basically just another scam. I didn't pay for it, but man even I was a little on the train for Ashes of Creation. Which is like, say what you want about how it lived and died, but at least slop like New World actually was a real game that got made, released, and was playable. Personally, I don't think there will be MMOs anymore, not really. They just don't make sense with what people both want and expect. Like, I'm playing Crimson Desert right now, and that game is a singleplayer world that is pretty massive in gameplay area. But if it were an MMO, I get the sense it would feel way more crowded and small. People need bigger spaces, more things to do, more to interact with, more systems, etc, and it just turns them into a nightmare to even start building at all.
