This was such a great console, despite a month or two where nothing was coming out on it, it had a ton of gems. I have a huge stack of good games for it. It's a shame the gamepad didn't take off, it was an interesting idea, but I suppose the Switch almost kind of does the same thing I GUESS. I feel bad for anyone who missed out on this gen, where Nintendo was doing deals left and right, and Miiverse was a perfect online ecosystem. Even these days you can easily jailbreak it and use it to play all previous Nintendo console games on it, including Gamecube, making use of the adapter that came bundled with Smash Bros to use a Gamecube controller. It really feels like the last time you got force fed Nintendo Magic when you turned their console on. Turn on the Switch 2 and it's just like "Ok here are the games, play one K". That's probably enough gushing, none of you know anything about this experience. Your guys' knowledge of the Wii U come from second hand memes from whatever streamer you watch.

>>739820846>This was such a great consoleIncredible level of dishonesty.
>>739820846I followed the Wii U avidly since the E3 2011 reveal, was a member of several different Wii U/Nintendo-centric forums and communities throughout the whole gen, and played all major releases. The console was pure trash that completely failed to live up to the promises Nintendo made pre-release (that it would cater to both casual AND core gamers).Looking at the games individually, most of them weren't outright bad. They just weren't appropriate to sell a console on. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, wanted a game like 3D World in 2013. We wanted, and were expecting, an all-new revolutionary sandbox 3D Mario like 64, Sunshine, or Odyssey. Similarly something like Tropical Freeze was cool, but nobody was begging for it. We wanted a new 3D DK.Not to mention the series that just completely failed to materialize on the system, like mainline Animal Crossing, Pokemon (I don't really count Pokken), Metroid, hell I'd even say Zelda didn't make a meaningful appearance on Wii U since BOTW only launched when it was literally already discontinued.I genuinely reckon the Wii U might be the #1 most disappointing console from a major manufacturer ever. It's crazy that even something like the Dreamcast had a more appealing library despite only having 2 years on the market compared to Wii U's 5.
>>739820846While it wasn't the best, it was an extremely good time. Miiverse was hilarious and the 1st party games were great. Hell even just being there for Splatoon's original demo and then the full release was incredible.>>739825124>Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, wanted a game like 3D World in 2013. >>739826508Seems like me and you are the only ones on the board who actually experienced it
>>739826625To be fair it's likely an age group thing too. I had plenty of irl people to play stuff like Nintendoland, Smash Tour, and 3D World with. Then introducing innovative games (for Nintendo) like Mario Maker, Splatoon, and Xenoblade X while posting about them on Miiverse was just a fun time.Even outside of that, Nintendo directs and E3 presentations were super entertaining at the time. Plus the 3DS was cooking concurrently. If I was in my 20's with no friends and no kids at the time of the Wii U I probably would have been super crabby about it also. But to me, it was a good time to be a Nintendo fan.
