How come the industry experts are more clueless than /v/ about what gamers wanna buy on steam?
>>
I don't even play games. I doubt I know anything at all.
>>
>>739824107
Played it, it was relaxing, until I started trying to optimise it and realised throwing every book with a white cover into a big pile, then picking them all up and tossing anything that didn't match was the fastest way to level up, and once you do you should take about 5 points in the third magic (see all alike books), 1-1, 1-2, and then spam everything into the last magic (collect all books) before rounding off with everything into the fourth one.
>>
>>739824457
Why does a librarian simulator have a levelling system
>>
>>739824107
I'm a big time buyer of books and comics and I love arranging my library into new configurations. It's deeply satisfying.
>>
I'm only interested in linear action games or what you might regard as a movie game. What would you call Resident Evil 9 and Pragmata. Are they movie games?
>>
>>739824543
If I had to guess it's to represent the tard mage apprentice that was assigned the job (i.e. (You)) getting better/stealing/learning library based magic so they're not stuck there the rest of the day.
If you mean mechanically, it's so you can feel like you're progressing and getting better at the game (you're not they're just giving you more training wheels to make it easier as time goes by).
Please note this is entirely optional. If you want to do it by hand without touching any magic or chest items, you can.
>>
>>739824543
Because it's a magic library and you lean magic
>>
>>739824107
People here throw a shitfit every time they see a cardbattler roguelike, so I think everybody is out of touch of what people would play.

>MC uses skills and vast knowledge to help her build a small kingdom

The anime close to this is "I'm Quitting Heroing: Next Gig Is at the Demon Queen's Castle"
>>
>>739824457
See, that's why I start with a no magic run. It's very relaxing, and a really nice vibe to just hunt for the books you want.
I still started with white books because they stand out the most.

strangely compelling game. after finishing the library once just doing it my own way (which took 12 hours) I felt I had to 100% it by getting the "stack all shelves but get no shelf correct", "stack all shelves correctly without using magic" and "stack all shelves correctly in under 3 hours" achievements.

I still think about it

How does this distinguish them from /v/?
>>
>>739824107
The problem is half of the "gamers" are just looking for something to waste their life on. Like they have no friends or hobbies and they just want a game to play every single hour of every single day.
These are also the people willing to spend thousands of dollars on microtransactions. Capitalism insists that the industry cater to these types. There's no sense being mad about it.

I hate this so much. I'm so tired of "cozy" games and work simulators, so tired of games that ask the same dumb question of "What if you WEREN'T the hero???". It's the most pointless gimmicky shit ever. These games aren't even meant to be played just act as a mindless stimming toy for the ADHD retards it attracts.

It's a coping mechanism for millennials that never achieved anything in life.
Kinda like how troons can't see an attractive woman in a video game without freaking out because it reminds them of what they will never be; millennials see a strong hero saving the day and it reminds them of what they will never be.
>>
>>739826763
Literally no one talked about this, but you couldn't help yourself with your cock obsession, huh
>>
>>739826487
Sometimes something simple and everyday feeling is relaxing to play and that’s all you need.
>>

I'm actually asking you to post about the topic at hands instead of your personal obsessioin with trannies. Is that possible for you? Is there still room in your head for genuine discussion about video fucking games? Or is TRANNIES TRANNIES TRANNIES all that's left?
>>
>>739827053
Nigger do you actually think a shill would come in here praising Brand TM in exactly that manner? If that doesn't fire off a neuron saying "this is taking the piss" you might want to get your head checked.
>>
>>739827149
>Don't use a pertinent example because I find it VERY offensive
Ask politely and I'll consider it :)
>>
>>739827193
If I wanted to shill on 4chan, that's how I'd do it. Ironic attention is still attention, the goal is to get you to talk about product, so product has a bigger place in your brain.

Kill yourself

That worked out great for Morbius. And Concord. I'd mention more but I've forgotten about the other flops that got ironic attention.

>>
>>739827519
Concord only got attention for being a failure, of course that won't work. It was actually a big part of why it failed so spectaculary, no one was talking about it.
And yeah, Morbius was funny, but it won't invalidate a massive industry that very successfully gets people to buy product by putting names in front of faces as much and often as possible. Shit works. It's not magic, it can't save a Morbius or a Concord, but overall it works.

are you implying that librarians don't level up with age
>>
>>739824107
I looked up it takes to become a librarian and it seems like absolute horse-shit that they want an advanced degree. Are there any library-bros that can confirm or deny their job of sorting returns and organizing community events would need something like that?
>>
>>739827739
I think you're putting too much value into the old adage "any publicity is good publicity", frankly.
>>
>>739825368
I work at a library and am no different
>>
>>739827965
You need a degree to be an actual librarian but not everybody working at the library is a librarian.
Well unless you're some big center of the city library I guess.
>>

>cardbattler roguelike
Those two things are the shittiest genres ever invented in videogames, and fucking soulstrash is up at the top too.
>>
>>739828172
>You need a degree to be an actual librarian
lol fucking why
It's just sorting books
>>
>>739828967
A proper library has more than just the public facing bookshelves. So yeah, you don't need a librarian for a smalltown library that actually doesn't do anything else, but a proper library also has old manuscripts to take care of and is a research center and archive.
>>
>>739828172
You know, me mum wanted me to become a librarian because it was a stable government job that doesnt need you to interact with people, but I chose not to because I need a job that would allow me to be valuable even if society collapsed.

No warlord's gonna keep a librarian around, your know. They'll keep the books. But the librarian is useless
>>
>>739828967
you'll parse what he's saying better if you read "librarian" as archivist
>>
>>739829378
>No warlord's gonna keep a librarian around, your know.
Historically speaking, most warlords were eccentrics who used their position to become deeply invested in frivolities. A literature care specialist is slightly more sane than say, Castro's massive spending on dairy science, or Nobunaga's procession of buddhist acolyte rent-boys.

This was fun
But the books are only a few hundred, with 10 volumes each for most.
I don't understand why the dev didn't just use AI to generate the book names, it's like the one case where it would do a really good job. Hell he could even write the books...
>>
>>739824107
PC gamers are subhuman. Analysts gave them too much credit. Every time some low effort, meme slop game is selling well, it’s almost guaranteed that it’s mostly being bought by steam troonies.
>>
>>739829378
>but I chose not to because I need a job that would allow me to be valuable even if society collapsed.
What is it that makes people develop this mentality? Is it a third-world thing?
Do you need to spend all your life living under the jackboot of one terrible regime or another to justify your inability to get a white-collar job with "well society might collapse so I couldn't possibly get this stable and comfortable job"?
>>
>>739834224

part of the game's appeal once you get into it is all the funny book names.
the AI wouldnt get it and the book names would be far more bland.
>>
>>739834439
It's been a few years since that phase, it's scary good at text gen now.
I specifically brought up AI because for silly stories with almost no particular requirement it's pretty much perfect now.
>>
>>739826487
Okay then don’t play it dummy.
>>
>>739834557
No, that's a separate group.
The AI mob is the group that doesn't care if it's good. They just hate it for being AI made.
>>
>>739824107
Because from the top down not a single person in the industry is actually a gamer. All the dad gamers who use to make actually good games retired LONG ago or got push out of the industry by some stupid activist bullshit. Now we're stuck purely with the children of Anita

Make it so that you play as a barely clothed elvish girl that can be seen in third person and you have a jackpot.

theres like 2K games released every month
initial traction, marketing, word of mouth and most importantly algorithm luck (everyone is gaming it) are more important than whatever you think "gamers" are searching for. There isn't any decisive way to make a top selling game. Playing captain hindsight on a game's qualities is useless.
>>

>industry experts
You have to think of them as sports "commentators". They're people who watch but don't play nor create. They simply watch and give their opinion. In many cases, they're there because they couldn't get other jobs and often merely to promote the narrative.

To play sports at the level the commentator is commenting upon, requires rare skills and great sacrifices. To play a video game a game journo is giving his opinions about requires tens of hours of an activity nobody considers actial work.

I'd unironically recommend being a librarian if it wasn't antagonistic to straight white males. This is not a meme, every library I've ever worked in or been in has the same problem. It's a real shame since working with databases and information cross-referencing really tickles that autistic part of my brain.

It's odd how rare it is for men to do the job. I assume that women tend to do the front-facing aspects of the job, like tidying the shelves and manning the desk, and I assume all the men are at some central hub for some multiple county database being autistic in a backroom.
I looked into becoming a librarian myself once, but it said you need a master's in Library Science, which was such obvious rent-seeking bullshit.

>Game literally starts playing itself once you get like 5 minutes in
This shit is like someone trying to cash in on shit like powerwasher or the other cleaning game and not actually knowing what makes those good. It's like if someone went to one of those seminars about "game design" and heard about incrementation and progression and feel-good feedback and put it all in without actually thinking about the game itself.
The game just gets easier and easier and easier until it ends and then nothing really happens.
>>
>>739844646
you could just not use the spells
there's a whole achievement for finishing it without using any major magic
>>
>>739844784
Yeah, but that's the thing. It's just exacerbating the problem. There's no difference between going with or without besides the amount of time you dedicate to a complete time waste. And as a time waste, it's gotta be one of the worst. There are tons of games with this exact same premise that manage to make it interesting. Make it fun. But what this game does to "spice things up" is ask you if you want to do it in 2 hours or 8 hours.
