i've been considering jig physics
specifically, the question "what is the optimal jig size such that the jig is completed just before the thread dies?"
critically, the time to complete a jig should be strictly less than the time to prune: t_jig < t_prune

both times depend on several factors, such as
N_jig = size of jig
N_jiggers = number of jiggers
v_post = board post velocity (posts per second)
and some derived quantities, such as
v_jig = jig velocity (jig pieces placed per second), which depends on N_jig and N_jiggers in a complex way)

the governing equation for time to jig is
N_jig = integral v_jig(t) dt from t=0 to t=t_jig

i'm trying to come up with an expression for v_jig. intuitively, v_jig should be small at first, and be maximum near finishing.
the combinatorics of the number of possible jig configurations is hard to estimate.
the existence of edge pieces also makes the expression more comlicated.

Busy and colorful images are great, but they can't be too busy or trying to match everything gets fucking annoying.
It's trying to hit that middle ground of simple and busy, while having multiple color groups.
