What's the appeal of Zelda?
>The puzzles are either braindead of "Use X item on Y object" gimmicks
>Combat is shallow
>Dungeons are repetitive
>Story is weak
Genuinely, what's the appeal? This is like the middest series in gaming
>>
They are everything you could be looking for in a vudeo game.
Good gameplay, level design, sound design, puzzles, OST, story and so on.

Zelda offers the best sense of mystery in all gaming. There is always so much to discover and all kinds of strange interactions to figure out, which are often hard to call 'puzzles' per se, but you'll want to think about the world and the possible ways you might be able to interact with it in order to find the often very well hidden things in the games. Zelda achieves this in part due to how many different meaningful ways there are to actually interact with the environment and NPCs, which can turn out to be unique solutions if you find out how you ought to use the right item in the right way in the right place/time.

This is something no other series does as well, there are only a handful of RPGs that even might compare, and none of them have the same kind of direct, responsive, real time action/control that Zelda does seamlessly.

It also helps that its best entries are incredibly atmospheric.

The only good Zelda game is the first one on NES and maybe Zelda 2 if you're a contrarian. Series became formulaic journoslop after that.

Nostalgic value because zelda did a lot of big things for the weaker console hardware. One can easily point out Ultima and Wizardy as the true pioneers of what adventure/dungeon crawler games came to be, but Zelda 1 did a big explorable world with dungeons and stuff in a very small console next to the aforementioned games being computer games, and the series improved its formula after some games, particularly A link to the past and Link's awakening on how the series' game structure would work going forward. Then you got Ocarina of Time which gave gamers a game with a mildly decent camera and lock-on mechanics that, while already a thing prior to OoT (MegaMan Legends only lacked being able to move while locking down a target, something they did for Legends 2 but that was 2 years later and Tomb Raider's lock on was not similar to OoT's in like at all), it was only one thing or the other, OoT was a good blend of every bit that made a 3d game good back then put into 1, just sprinkle some in-game cutscenes instead of FMV's like many other games of that time did and presto, you got a game that blindfolded people with the most red googles ever.

But if you take out the nostalgic and historic value of Zelda, AKA, you look at the series after the release of wind waker, then the franchise is indeed mediocre as fuck. So mediocre that the most acclaimed title after OoT is breath of the wild, a game that can be sincerely called Assasin's Creed/Skyrim, but with a Nintendo label.

Witcher 3, much more epic, cinematic, better combat, more enemy variety, incredible narrative, insane graphics, better music, much more to explore and discover in much bigger world, much much longer, way more replay value, do I go on or is Oot buried

it has better combat than Oot, and the enemies are NOT asset flips lmao, talking out of your ass

more better IS literally better, it's math.

it's the worst fusion of bamham magnetic combat and dark souls animation telegraphing i've ever had the displeasure of experiencing in a AAA game

They're fun. Not everything has to have le super serious cinematic story and mechanics you have to perfect or else enemies will kill you in one hit.

Here's a secret.
Every kid that had an N64 growing up in the 90s, pretty much looked like this.
Their parents were going through a divorce, or they were doing drugs, and the kids had this blank empty stare while playing N64.
You got to understand, the N64 is the closest thing they had to any kind of parental figure. For real, every time you went over to your friend's house and they had an N64, it looked pretty much like pic related. Often times you'd hear their parents arguing in the background, while they just kept staring deeper and deeper into the television, getting lost in pure imagination.
It was their life, their fantasy, and as we've seen now, their future. They can't let go of Ocarina of Time, because it would mean letting go of everything that they are as a person.
Do not think less of them, it wasn't their fault.
>>
>>739835796
I believe it too
>>
>>739835775
the weapon connects in dark souls too (which was directly inspired by OOT Z-targeting), but it doesn't have aspects of bamham magnetic combat either
>>
>>739832509
It was the precursor to soulslikes and invented damn near everything you know about action adventure games, both 3d and top down 2d

I guess, in the broadest possible interpretation. If you don’t like it that’s fine, I don’t Elder Scrolls, Fallout, or GTA.
>>
>>739835961
lol Witcher 3 has the same combat as Dark Souls, retard.
>>
>>739838881

Bullshit, the only "magnet" is if you kill someone with a critical it plays an animation of chopping their head off. Humans only too.

>>739832509
it's a casual game you play to chill with. it's liked because the games have good visuals, good music, easy controls, and are very polished without bugs and bullshit, that's really all it takes.
>>
>>739832509
Characters and puzzles, but the latter has suffered now in nu-Zelda.

I agree that the puzzles tend to be simplistic and ever since ALttP the games became rehashes of the same shit, with endless railroading. "OH YOU DON'T SAY! I FOUND THE BOW AND ARROWS IN THIS DUNGEON AND THE BOSS HAS A BIG GLOWY EYE?"
>>
That's the OOTslop games. Botw and Totk fixed this issue
>>
>>739842614
They made a new issue because botw and totk are just menushit, with a sprinkle of hoarding mechanics because weapon durability is the worst possible thing nintendo's ever added to a game
>>
>>739832509
These days?
Not being copypaste slop from the entire AAA industry, instead it is copypaste from the Zelda franchise.
Which is a bigger deal than you think. AAA adventure rpg games has been the same witcher 3 derivative since ass creed origins kicked off the trend. Even before that, AAA games have
>looked the same
>played the same
>same UI
>same key/button layout
>same quest design
>same equipment slots
>same rpg elements
>same enemy design/type
>same morality system
>same dialogue tree
>Yellow paint

It's all the same fucking game. But with Zelda you got a handful of games it steals from, instead of the entire fucking goyslop industry which exists due to the jewish greed that prevents games from being in any way different out of fear that "casual" players, or new players would feel confused or lost.
Which is why whenever a game breaks the sloppa mold, retards have a meltie about difficulty or poor design. Zelda, as sad as it might sound, feels fresh because it isn't as stale as the competition.
