>access to bellsprout/growlithe/poliwag before the first gym
>able to catch Teddiursa on a saturday morning in dark cave making it an early headbutt/return monster house (learns all elemental punches too)
>phanphy in the morning in the closed off section on route 45 near the starting zone
>access to zubat, spearow, pidgey and hoothoot, solid choice for your fly user
Let's face it, Crystal is comfiest one out of the franchise. Everything feels so right. You can literally build a late game team before the first badge.
>>
>>739842241
Any team is a "late game team" during a regular playthrough.
>>
ok but where's mareep in crystal
>>
HG/SS letting you catch flaafy before even beating falkner always rubbed me the wrong way. It’s literally giving you a one mon train ride to the badge with minimal grind

>uh but but geodude is an early mon in the cave and
Yah and have you actually trained him? Before he gets rock throw all he has is tackle and defense curl and he’s like lvl 4
>>
>>739842241
>no mareep
genuinely the worst game in the series
>b-but you can catch some heckin kanto shitmons before the first gym!
johto is so dogshit its not even fucking funny
>>
>planning ahead for gym leaders
When did this kind of tryhard autism begin? Back in the good ol’ days, you caught and trained whatever you thought looked cool, and you’d only ever switch your team comp to be strong against certain elements if you got your shit wrecked (unlikely) or you talked to NOCs who told you of the leader’s preferred element. Is it some zoomie thing to metagame all the fun out of enjoying the adventure?

What is this mareep meme
>>
>>739842757
Johturd only has 3 good pokemon

Your ugly starter (shitganium not included)
Ampharos
Red Gyarados

Removing Mareep breaks the game and makes the distribution shittier than it already was

Anon what

Back in the day everyone just solely used their starter for everything, you're actualy a fucking retard with nostalgiaglasses. We were kids with limited spare time between doing homework, watching the simpsons before your dad wanted to watch the news and playing outside. Nobody took their sweet time levelling up mons because it just took longer than just forcing yourself through everything with your overlevelled starter. Yeah you'd catch your cool mons, but they stayed mostly the same level because they were too weak and took away your time because you wanted to beat everyone else at the playground.

My cousin was nearly 13 years of age when Gold came out, and during his teenage years he got together and completed the pokedex of his blue file. He was the one that thought me to get a nidoran and train it for double kick to beat Brock on my Yellow. So yes, people were "metaslaving" back in the day too, and my young ass still solely trained that nidoran and managed to evolve it in to a nidoking.

Team from my last playthrough, love these guys

Pretty solid

HG/SS has some funny options due to the movepool changes, like Pinsir is kind of cracked in that game it gets X-Scissor super early
>>
>>739842241
>catch Teddiursa on a Saturday morning
I appreciate the sense of adventure in gen 2 and it probably helps vary the playthrough but you can see why this is a hassle

Same with the headbutt mons no one ever found or the eggs no one bothered with
>>
>>739842241
>(learns all elemental punches too)
This doesn't really matter in gen 2 because Teddiursa/Ursaring have trash special attack, and the elemental punches are still special based on typing until gen 4. It's okay for coverage, but there's much better options.

>>739842469
>>uh but but geodude is an early mon in the cave and
>Yah and have you actually trained him? Before he gets rock throw all he has is tackle and defense curl and he’s like lvl 4
It's doable though. Geodude has high enough defense that it can reliably beat anything that isn't a Bellsprout at that point. At level 11 it gets rock throw and can 2HKO Falkner's Pidgeotto. Onix is worse, but it gets Screech, so you can just spam that to get Pidgeotto weak enough for something else to come in and take it down.

Whats the deal with the Mareep talk here?
That thing is ass.
Bad stats at every stage, doesnt learn good moves.

Are you all insane?

Mareep is cute and literally the only electric type you have access to until you beat visit Ecruteak to reach Magnemite (kek) unless you get the elekid gift egg or manage to get a thunderstone for Jolteon randomly from the girl west of Ecruteak (where you can also find Magnemite anyway).

Mareep is basically the gen 2 Pikachu.
>>
>>739845157
magnemite is way more based than mareep.
especially with the newly introduced steel type.
voltorb is the gay loser one.
>>
>>739845157
Forgot to mention Pichu as the other gift egg option for an electric type. Still annoying resetting for the egg to get one though. At least in Crystal you can get Thunderpunch easily for basic electric coverage.

I don't hate magnemite, and I've used it in gen 2 and HGSS, but the mareep line is adorable and fluffy.

>why do people like the cute sheep who zaps things
Retard
>>
>>739845157
Pretty sure Mareep is also the first 3 stage Johto pokémon you can catch too. It's also just a likeable design, you can't really dislike mareep
>>
>>739842241
>catch geodude
>have it learn rock throw
>congrats you snapped the games first half
Johto is overhyped and didnt age well.

Wow your powers of observation are unmatched. Prtotip: Literally all the pokemon games are like that.
>>
>>739848083
I've heard far more people struggle with Whitney than I have with Surge

>electric gym next to digletts cave
>can catch dugtrio at a higher level than Surge's Pokemon
>>
>>739848638
nobody struggled with whitney
this "whitney is so hard omg" is a collective hallucination by underaged zoomer twitch addicts that watch speedrunners and take what they say about the SPEEDRUN and think it applies to the real gmes and that everyone had trouble with her back in the day playing casually
NOBODY did
she is only hard to speedrunners

i get tired of this meme being spouted nonstop, it only came up a few years ago by people that werent even alive at the time and never played the games
