Three more days at most and it will have the same rating as Disco Elysium. Deservedly so, too.

It's the most reddit of the Disco-likes, but I definitely think it's worth a play for its D&D elements. Not just story-wise, but mechanically.

Cringe. They should have just added in a few more clothing apparel that the monkey accepts.

It wasn't as good as DE but it was never going to be. The idea that it would even be any good at all after all that shit went down was unlikely at best, so the fact that it was pretty decent in the end is probably a win for what's left of the studio. I wouldn't have paid any more than it cost for it but I had fun with it and I'll probably buy the next thing they make.

With zero parades i felt like I missed a ton of shit
>>
>>739842976
It was better resolution to the plot, but because of the Plasmid and the dream sequence Disco Elysium ending was more emotional and memorable.
I think that if they gave more space and attention to the deaths of your party members Zero Parades ending could have been better overall

I'm pretty sure not taking strength in that game is just pointless because it's the most entertaining stat by far. That and intelligence. Also make sure you don't miss the meeting with the Coinlord on day 1 because you will literally softlock yourself for the rest of the game.

Burned out in the haze of it all
Long distance calls
Tapping the phone like a snare drum
Lying at the foot of the bed
Room turning red
No mess of lullabies humming
There's no checkpoint blues
I got no backroom grooves
Oh, come on, honey
We'll take off running in our

ALL THAT I HEAR LATELY

Oh man, feels like I've been here before
A thousand doors
To a thousand rooms that all look the same
Take me to your people's square
Carnations in your hair
Did you get to keep your name, oh
Headlines censor the news
Online on the latest coups
The bad luck, honey
Spent all my money on those
UNION JEEEWWWS

ALL THAT I HEAR LATELY

kek. I read this review, checked the dude's achievements, and he only did the bare minimum to get to the end of the game. Didn't get to either Ramses or HOLOCENE, and he didn't even internalize a thought, which you can do 20 minutes into the game. Then you look at all the awards and comments the review has and it's clear people just want confirmation bias and validation for their ZA/UM hatred.

It will never not be funny that supposed Disco Elysium fans behave this way.

>>
I watched those docs about DE and still don't see truth in the claim that the company or IP were "stolen" from the creators. They needed money, so they hired themselves a CEO to run the company, and then they got fired for having abused their colleagues and for not working because they needed a break from writing. The CEO would have loved to keep them on; no doubt firing the original writers was a difficult and costly decision, and he would only have made it as a last resort. So I just don't care if people who identify personally with the writers and not with the CEO engage in a two-minutes hate about him every time ZA/UM is mentioned. It just seems like BS by unemployed losers who don't know how economics works.

The ways to trigger the violations SEEM more clearcut on a 2nd glance, but as cool as the flowchart aesthetic is it confused me a bit with the splitting arrows, the cause and effect throughline felt a little backward at first.
It seems culture control is a big theme in this game, which is ironic because all you have to do is change a few words around and it tracks as an AI soapbox to the T. Still, I am interested to see where the plot of this game goes.
It's funny, not once but multiple times I was told "hey, can we drop this subect? I don't want to talk about it" and then they'll just tell me everything anyway after asking a third time. I'm not even a cop and yet I still get to talk to people as belligerently as Harry did.

I mean that's how some of the thoughts worked in DE. Exactly the same actually but instead of violation there was almost always some handicap to other skill.
>>
>>739854280
Reading is cringe. I absorbed the game's story strictly through vibes and I'm pretty sure I got all the plot points.
>>
I tried to do everything but still missed so much. Maybe that's what a second playthrough is for.

Photograph for Ignatz interrupted by starting endgame even after I took the photo (didn't figure out who he was, either)
Failed red check on Ezsti and couldn't recruit her (idk if there was a way to recover). I threatened her and she said she's cooperate but then the questline was just ended and failed as far as I could tell.
Couldn't ask HOLOCENE about his note saying that he betrayed the crew, not sure why I couldn't ask him about it in the bar
Never met Ramses
Sent UV away successfully (didn't betray her) with a new name etc but it didn't come up again and I didn't see Kaleidoscope again so ig I missed things there
Supposedly recruited Karolina but didn't see her in the bar so I guess I didn't properly finish it; didn't reunite her with her father
Didn't wiretap the phone sex addict or ask about "the gap"
Never figured out the strange sound from the Palace of Culture or removed the squatters
First run let myself die on the tram listening to the red tape (didn't try to fight it because it felt right but also made me sad so I replayed it)

Anyone else planning a second playthrough? Idk if I should do it with a guide to ensure I get some different outcomes or if that would be pointless and unfun.

Do you guys keep a lot of old saves to go in different directions?

Also I honestly felt so lost in terms of the story at times...maybe I'm just retarded but I still don't know why the Opera wanted to kill Reyes, and I didn't know that The Weeping Eye were from La Luz for a long time, and I didn't figure out what Cascade did wrong to mess things up five years ago (or if it really was her fault)... what a game.

I think that much like Disco Elysium is not exactly a cop game, it's somewhat fair to say that Zero Parades is not exactly a spy game either. Both games have a similar formula and structure that ultimately still make it more of a game about talking to get world building, doing errands for wacky characters and having a bunch of open ended skill checks that often just lead you to different tracks in the story.

It's kind of like how back in the 90s you could have a point and click game about being an archeologist, one about being a detective, one about being a pirate, one about being a teenager in a spooky mansion, one about being a motorcycle bad dude, but they all ultimately play like "Combine the rubber hose with the brick to break a window"

Having said that, the story and the actions you do are definitely spy fiction territory. As for if it's a power fantasy, I guess not. You're more a cog in the machine just trying to pull off a mission, and you can't get the perfect rank without breaking a few eggs in the process.

What makes it fail as a murder mystery game is that you're railroaded to the solution regardless of how well or poorly you investigate, and you can't solve it as the player by yourself. It's great as a character study and political dialogue but as a detective game it's thoroughly mid
>>

Not a VN, It's a point and click adventure that looks like a DE clone visually, but you quickly realize that the RPG elements don't really matter. You basically explore and then figure out what and when and where you need to do. Still more gameplay than your average VN, but not even close to beiggn a disco like. It's kinda stuck in the middle and the presentation makes you assume it's not what it actually is. A lot of people were misled by this and the steam reviews show that.

>>
>>739847712
Based logical post. I bought the game - im probably going to buy any game made by anyone who had anything to do with DE. The more of them there are, the better for me. Are they all going to be any good? Absolutely not, but I love the idea of a DE-like subgenre and want to see more of it and dickless redditors seem to this would be best served by Rostov having some sort of monopoly over the concept itself.
As for Zero Parades - very nice. A little slow to start, far moreso than DE but by the time you're a couple of hours in and find out what your assignment actually is, it was making me very happy.

>a murder mystery game
But it never intended to be one. Though the main muder is railroaded all you get before and during that depends on your capacity to interrogate people correctly. And Disco does it extremely well, never got the meme that it was a bad detective game because it doesn't let you find the murderer until the game tells you to. It's not a whodunnit, but still a detective game.

STR and INT are real deal. STR politicaly is nationalist, and has personality of fuck it we ball knight in the shining armor fighting for god, honor and country, at the same time its probably the funniest voice in either of the three games. It also is tied to your starting cleric class, so as you can probably guess it pays of during main quest to have it
INT politicaly is totalitarianism with you at the top as wizard-king (or more accurately evil overlord sauron style). It quotes crime statistics, tellls you previous dictators didnt go far enough and in general has ego so heavy it works incredible with STR
CHA is limp wristed people pleaser, but if you want to romance girls it makes it easer so i would sugest either sticking with it, or if you want some shitzo shit - END is your guy.

It was also probably best mixed piece of music in the game, it being completely tied to the conversation tempo

You But From A Dream
It being just a bit of the actual track make it conceptually great, even if I really want the full thing. Kind of like how you can pick to listen to it at the end of the game.

Where do you find out Tempo went in Yana?
>>
>>739848459
Kurviz is well known enough by now that he probably doesn't lack institutional backers who would jump at the chance to fund anything that crazy schizo wants to make.
I read somewhere that Chris Avellone wanted to work with him on a project. Ngl I'd buy the shit out of that in the unlikely event it comes to pass.

I think that was the plan, yes.
At first I thought that her looking different would be a problem but then I figured that it's nothing a bit of spy grade cosmetic surgery can't fix.
Pretty sure there was also a plan to use Yana as a spy at the same time, would only make sense to not waste a chance of implanting someone in a high up position like that.

I had to turn off the narrator, thankfully you can choose to only play character voices.

I'm not sure if the narrators voice grew on me at around halfway mark of the story or if she was told to change the way she narrates, but I ended up not minding it.
It was still a bit too slow paced, but that's about the only complaint I had in the end.

You know, I'm actually quite surprised with the reception that ZP has gotten on /v/.
You'd think that shitposters would rabidly decry the game for having troons in it.
Since, you know, a black guy transfers his consciousness into the body of some teenage girl using secret crypto-jew neural imprinting tech.
Maybe they're just too distracted with low-hanging fruits of studio drama and the game sticking slightly too close to the path trodden by its predecessor.
>>
>>739884826
just taking the piss since I had 9 doppel for most of my playthrough and it only rarely talked, guess most of the stuff for it is locked behind very high skill checks then
>>
>>739883217
Doesn't matter what you pick.
You get so many skill points so quickly that you can rapidly evolve your build into almost anything and still do fairly well.
>>
>>739884915
That would require playing the game. The main character is a woman, the people who bitch about everything being woke already have an easier way to do it.
>>
>>739884915
The difference between a troon and Tempo however is that Tempo never wanted to become a woman, he was perfectly content being a black fag but things got out of hand and it was a desperate last ditch effort.
>>
>>739885032
But is there a limit to how much I can level a skill? Like if the base red stat is 3 I can only get red skills up to 5, yeah?
>>
i think there should have been an option to date UV or run away with her
>>
>>739885137
Sure, but that's where the thoughts come in, they raise your max cap.
There's also using the clothes to min-max stats like in DE.
>>
>start 2nd playthrough, different stats
>can't rub Pseudopod's bald spot for luck anymore
Was it a passive check that lets you do it? Does anyone remember what skill it was?
>>
>>739885356
If it was skill based it's probably entanglement, I did a playthrough with technoflex, grey matter and entanglement as my main skills and had the option.
>>
I didn't imprint on Pseudopod because I felt bad about the idea :(
With that said, I had put the batteries on the imprinting device, just in case you could somehow use it on the finale
>>
>>739885457
No, it must've been a red skill. I had low blue skills on the 1st playthrough and could do it.
>>
>>739876397
Yeah, the game really builds up nicely when you're done with the start.

I'll definitely buy Tangerine Antarctic and the Summer Eternal game too, even if they turns out shit. Not sure if I'll bother buying Hopetown, though. I have my limits.

>>
>>739885667
Strange, I had all of my action skills except for shadowplay at 3 or 2 with clothing that also affected them negatively, and I highly doubt that shadowplay gave you that option.
Perhaps it has something to do with how you interact with him earlier in the game.
>>
>>739881820
>>739882067
I honestly didn't even realize you could finish the game without it telling you this. Cool.
>>
>>739881887
I think they just didn't really understand or at least mentally accept how the imprinting works. The way both girls talked about it, they just treated it as if it was a pure conscience transfer. She was gonna "live" somewhere peaceful, and either she doesn't know or care that it wasn't really gonna be her but just a copy of her memories.

For all we know, the real her was always gonna go back to Luz. Or maybe Tempo was gonna kill her off to sell the idea that the transfer happened, SOMA-style.
>>
>>739884915
chuds hate DE, so they got on ZP just to prove a point not because they actually like it
>>
I always figured I'd put Pseudopod's memories/personality inside Cascade's mind, but it ended up the other way around. Was the alternative option possible? I thought it might be like getting an extra skill talking to me which would have been interesting.
>>
>>739884915
It's always nice when a game I like manages to avoid the /pol/tard Eye of Sauron. Right now they're too busy seething about the 007 game instead, which I don't give a fuck about. Lucky!

If the usual tweetfags gave a shit about this and started taking screenshots about how the MC can be lesbian or whatever, then yeah, we'd never hear the end of it.
>>
>>739886038
Nah, the whole point is that you need someone to be very mentally open for the imprinting to work. Tempo did hypnotization stuff, but it was clear that Pseudopod being catatonic made him a perfect target.
>>
>>739884915
It's an actual discord raid
>>
>>739885796
I tried recreating my 1st playthrough and I still can't get the option. It's either choosing a specific option when waking up or the new update fucked it.
>>
>>739885952
Truth be told, Yana does imply that Tempo probably wanted to fuck her over and use her as a sacrificial chess piece more or less, but then again she does also say that she's not sure which of her feelings around the subject are Tempos, which of them are hers and which of them are V's.
Good to keep in mind that we are talking about stone cold assets/informants working for a major spy network here after all, so it's fair to expect them not to have a lot of empathy towards people that can further their goals.
Most likely plan however was that they transfer the consciousness of UV and Tempo into Yana, send her to Luz to work as an informant with all of the experience of Tempo and send UV off to the superbloc, Tempo was in the process of getting UV forged papers before getting killed after all.
>>
>>739886038
He doesn't have any memories or personality, he got his memory wiped by the tape, there would be nothing to transfer.
Cascade would end up as a catatonic husk on the floor next to Pseudopod if she somehow managed to do that.

>>
>>739886483
>Cascade would end up as a catatonic husk on the floor next to Pseudopod if she somehow managed to do that.
No, cause it just imprints the memories onto a person while still keeping the old ones. The shock is usually the fact that now there's twice (or over twice, since Tempo is older) the memories all battling each other.

If anything, nothing would change kek

Game currently at 80% positive total, though, counting today. Number of reviews going up while the percentages stay as positive is a good thing.

Compared to Esoteric Ebb, ZP only got 60% of the reviews in the first week, and it was at 78% positive instead of the 96% positive EE got. Still, I think this first trend indicates that there's gonna keep being growth as word of mouth continues pointing out that this is in fact a good successor.

Chris Avellone is actively working with Kurvitz on his Red Info game. Along with Hindepere and Rostov, in Estonia. They got money from Netease, which means they at least has some type of fire burning under their asses to make a thing.

Also it seems like imprinting isn’t a real transfer of consciousness as much as forcing someone to do a shitty impersonation of you forever, since you and the imprinted PSEUDOPOD can coexist.

Tempo didn’t become a woman, if anything Yana became a man, and even then it’s not clear what the hell her gender identity is. PSEUDOPOD, disoriented as he is, doesn’t seem to find it strange he’s in a man’s body either.

You have action sequence that are still dice rolls and you have a fatigue mechanic that prevents you from just trying everything

The politics are there, but they're mostly window dressing, I would much prefer if they invented fictional names for communism and techno-fascism, because there really is no elaboration or consequence to these

The new protagonist feels more like an after thought just comes off as pretty fucking interchangeable.

>final edition, which is the edition that people love btw
didn't it literally just slap on voice acting for an already finished game?
>>

Know of a good write up on it? I was there during the controversy but I didn't do a deep dive and it seemed like there was conflicting info at the time due to all the shitflinging

kurvitz and friends signed some bad contracts without reading them, they then proceeded to act like rockstars and refused to do any work on the sequel and treated people like shit and subsequently got fired. refusing to take responsibility for their own actions, they blamed the evil investor who FORCED them to sign the contracts

commie larpers are so obsessed with worshipping people for some reason, it's genuinely bizarre. imagine calling yourself a commie and at the same time encouraging people to pirate a game that has nothing to do with the previous drama and rob 80+ devs of fair compensation for their work. goes entirely against their supposed principles. it's all 100% performative and ironically enough kurvitz made fun of that kind of "communism" in DE, but i guess that point didn't sink in with these retards

Going off the screenshots of writing here I don't think I would like it. I feel like you have to really enjoy the prose of this shit to enjoy it

Got any good samples of writing from the game? That's what makes or breaks it for me. I know that's a request that includes subjectivity
>>
>Check the page of Summer Eternal
>They somehow got Ted Chiang on their team

What the fuck?
Also, i don't know if you guys know but the name of their game for now is under the placeholder title "Project Red Rooster". Judging by what it can be glanced on their page, it doesn't look like a chaos agent story (Spy nor Detective), but i rather imagine something like "Germinal" by Emile Zola.

According to google, Chiang is just there for the manifesto anthology they are trying to sell. Thought for a second that maybe he would be part of the writing team for their game.

the devs are paid whether the game sells or not

>pretend to be retarded so you can continue your flawed way of thinking
lol. lmao
>>
Man, when all these "DE successor" games come out, it's gonna be one long and slow bitchfest of people arguing which one did it "right".
Maybe this is Kurvitz master plan as an allegory for communism or something.

>pretends not to know what a salary is
really?
>>
>>739923497
you're either 14 or you have 80 IQ. take your pick
>>
>>739923521
ZA/UM is not exactly a small company with 80+ devs
you really think they don't pay their workers a salary? I'm starting to fear you're not actually pretending to be retarded
>>
>>739923482
Can't wait for the 18 hour retrospective titled "I played EVERY official Disco Elysium successor and I will tell you which one is the BEST"
>>
>>739923834
Yeah and we'll get one of these for each game.
>>
>>739923463
you are literally retarded
