Why did americans love dumping quarters in arcade machines so much?
Im going to dump a quarter in your mom's mouth
>>739844074That's just how gaming was for a long time...Until the Last of Us changed this.
>>739844074Tokens were an ingenious concept because they add a layer of obfuscation between the act of "spending" and real money.
>>739844074because konami ramped up the difficulty of all their western releases to turn them into quarter muncherswe were conditioned to think that quarter munchers were just normal
>>739844361If you have low IQ maybe
>>739844417Yes, the goyim are the people this process is for.
>>739844074>hurr duurr how come this machine thats designed to make money actually serve its purpose in ameriburger?gee i fucking wonder
>>739844535Anyone who uses the word "goyim" like you just did is low IQ.
Japanese people are so autistic"I GOTTA SHOW THEM OFFLINE IM THE KING OF NERDS" and spend a million quarters trying to and failing to 1cc some shooterMeanwhile americans get to the end of the game with 20 quarters and never have to touch the same game again
>>739844074Is he implying that Japs let the "Conitnue?" screen run down before putting in another quarter, or do they just try a game once a day and fuck off until tomorrow if they dont 1CC it? I'm confused, because either sounds plausible given japanese autism.
>>739844781the former
>>739844781If the game locks the good ending behind 1cc why waste money on a bad ending when you can git gud and eventually get the good one?
>>7398447071cc is SOVL
>>739845910replaying stage 1 a million times is soul draining Ill tell you what
>>739846001maybe don't be so bad that you can't even clear stage 1 without a game over
>>739844074I don't know when this is from, but back in the day, arcades we're several times more interesting graphically than anything you'd have on the home console. Going from the NES to games like Golden Axe in the arcade absolutely blew peoples' minds back then. People from non third world countries could afford entertainment expenses.
>>739846090irrelevant even if you die on stage 4 you still have to replay stage 1 over and over and it stops being any fun at all
>>739844696Lmao kike
People would defend these Jewish behavior because it's part of their childhood. Baffling.
retarded consoomer culture
>>739844696shalom
>>739846272anon you are just describing playing the game over and over againif you don't want to do it, why are you doing it
>>739844074>design a game to take your money>ITA ROOD BE RUDE TO NOT GIVE YENYou're going to end up paying so much more money if your gaming etiquette demands that you, as a retard, never put more money into a machine when said machine is designed to be uncompleteable without putting more money in
Aren't these games designed to become easier once you put in a new continue? I would say in the long run it would be better to pump it with coins/tokens for a first playthrough just to see how the game is and what are some hard parts, then go for a 1CC run.
>>739846621there are 0 arcade games that require more than a quarter to beat and most of them punish you for continuing
>>739844361It's because it's easier to change prices by telling the token machine to now give out 30, instead of 35, tokens for a 5 bucks, than going around to every single machine and telling them to now charge 67¢ instead of 56¢ per play. Or... you COULD only raise prices in whole increments of quarters, but then expect a lot more upset customers when all the games stayed at 50¢ for years until they suddenly go to 75¢. You also vastly decrease the threat of robbery & burglary, along with fending off lawsuits of facilitating gambling, by not having the actual game machines handling legal currency. Public transit, like subways and busses, used to accept whole coins a hundred years ago but then went to tokens for these same reasons. Psychologically tricking gamers into not realizing how much money they're spending was not even on the radar for this change.
>>739844074It's a fucking retarded take anon.american gets better because he's paying to get better.Jap gets better because he's paying to get better. There is no difference between these other than perspective. Nobody completes arcade games in one coin or token. They learn to complete them through the use of many. The american brute forces it with continues, the jap tries to play it as a no-hit run because he doesn't want to spend anything else.Protip, the jap spends more time in the arcade replaying stage 1 10000 times.
>>739846654There's actually a variety. Some actually get harder. Some are aiming for what is similar conceptually to "skill based match making", where the difficulty drops after continues and then goes up. Some take this further and have a "target time per continue", where difficulty goes up and down based on how well you're playing.
>>739847987I know that some of the Time Crisis games are like this, where enemy accuracy goes down on the start of a new life but then shoots back up once you are getting through a stage. Will say that 1CC runs of those games are super fun.
>>739844074In America most arcades are like chuckie cheese where it's about pumping quarters into garbage to get tickets to then exchange for a prize far less valuable than the money you spent to get it. Basically, here, everything is a crane machine. When I was a kid arcade games didn't have continues, but when they added them the shift was to ticket collecting.
>>739848098They did psych tests, and the optimum profitability and enjoyment is somewhere around 2-4 mins per continue. US players. Its intersting to see this on some of the multiplayer games like dungeons and dragons tower of doom, or Konamis shit, where 1ccing with a retard credit feeding parterner is a LOT easier than 1ccing with a skilled player, which is a very different difficulty curve to doing it solo.
>>739848612Totally worth it.
>>739844696Goycattle then
>>739848993This is kind of like AAA gaming when you think about it. It's just a super shallow game with minigames you can't lose thrown about everywhere and you collect participation rewards. Credit feeding is just normalfag behavior.
>>739844361it's literally just because $1 coins weren't widespread like they were in japan
>>739844074In my country there were very few Arcades but they were mostly visited by drunks. Oh and any bar had at least 3 of these machines, if Game Center CX thought me anything than it's that the japanese prey on the kids at the "dollar candy stores" while the europeans were aiming for drunk adults.
>>739846090>>739846479This is exactly why roguelites effectively replaced arcade games. It takes a special kind of autism to enjoy storming through trivial stage 1 over and over and over until you learn the latter half of the game well enough to squeeze 1cc out of it with dumb luck.
>>739844074It was a mix of economics and bragging rights
>>739849425They didnt though, as an arcade lover I hate rougelites
>>739844074Shoving a coin/token/whatever into the slot, hearing the thunk as the coin moved through the machine then the arcade itself making a noise had a very satisfying feel to it when i was a 15 year old.
>>739849425People like roguelites because memorizing a flow chart is easier than memorizing a route, usually much easier.
>americans were having funBAKA GAIJIN GAMES ARE NOT FOR FUN
>>739850145*fake fun
>>739850145>amerigoyim have fun by wasting their money on nonsensewe already knew this
The pureblood Yamatojin do not have fun while playing their games, fun is suboptimal
>>739847514>there are 0 arcade games that require more than a quarter to beatI'm sure that isn't true. Of course all the good ones are made for 1cc
>>739844074>have to drop a fucking 百円玉 on a single play of any game>feel obligated to squeeze every yen out of that bitch that you canmeanwhile, in America>drop a quarter on a game>lose>feel nothing>drop another quarter like it's nothingYou'd be trying to win at any cost if you were getting fucked in the ass the way the Japanese are by their arcades.
>>739844074>americans where having fun even while losing. It's the American way>I'll be a millionaire one day, please don't give me rights big daddy!
>Tokens are genius in arcades.>Premium currency is manipulative and bad in in-game storefronts. The absolute state of the smooth gamer brain.
>>739850145it's true, nip games all have time limits and give you grades when you finishthey're a miserable race of people who are 1 failure away from seppuku
It's really not that hard to 1cc arcade games. I even tell you guys which ones are easy and don't take a lot of time and you still can't do it. What's up with that?
>>739851130But you haven't 1cced anything onimaifag
>>739851130no point unless I get one of these bad boys
>>739851205Last game I 1cc'd was batrider and it took 4 dayshttps://youtu.be/qTbELs6hwpE
>>739844074Did you read? It says they dump tokens into them.
>>739851508Sure lil fag, now where's your stream?
>>739844074My parents only ever let me do one try on an arcade game when I was a kid. I was fine with it.
Another day, another horrifically disappointing thread. I'd say it was all a skill issue, but really, these games don't take much skill at all, so I'm baffled as to why you can't do it. I can only conclude that you are so used to your little RPG bubble that you have developed a severe reaction to even trying. In any case, you are all worth less than shit and don't deserve access to the internet
>>739853404>severe reactionA severe allergic reaction*
>>739853404so true babe*kissu*
>>739844361It also is better for the business to do this to prevent cheapskates for running your quarter supply into the dirt. My local had to do that after other businesses mooched off them too much by dumping 20 dollars in to get quarters and walking off not spending any.
>>739849425>roguelites replaced arcade games because... they did the same thing that arcade games didare you fucking dumb in the nigger brain you idiot?
>>739847514I've heard a couple times Carnevil can be set impossibly high to require more credits to beat but I haven't played it myself so I can't vouch if that's actually true.
>>739844680>general
