How the fuck was a little kid in 1998 with no internet supposed to figure out that you have to go back to the lost woods to learn Saria's song and then go to Goron City and play the song for the Goron chief so that he gives you a bracelet that lets you pick up bombs so that you can open the 2nd dungeon by blowing up a rock blocking the entrance? I'm a 24 year old man and I had to look this shit up.

You're a retard

Don't tell me you just ignored her

Your brain doesn't stop developing until you turn 25. You still have a year to stop being retarded, bro!
>>
>>739846676
Darunia and the Gorons themselves talk about a "green" song from the Lost Woods
You're told that you can light bomb flowers on fire
You find a tunnel with the Lost Woods theme playing from it blocked by boulders next to bomb flowers within reach of an unlit torch
There's a lit torch at the bottom of Goron City near a path of unlit torches
A Goron tells you that he wishes the torches were lit

Literally every time you need to go somewhere to do/get a thing, Navi will tell you.
She's the "where the fuck do I go" button.
We did this in 1998 by having more attention span than a fucking goldfish, having basic pattern recognition, and fucking READING you zoomer fuck.

OP is a modern gamer. To any person of average intellect, this would be a broad hint, almost insulting your intelligence.
To OP's brain, it means nothing. He still doesn't understand where to go and what to do. He needs a quest marker on the minimap to follow.

This
The worst thing I can say about Navi is she's a little dry, her dialogue isn't entertaining to read once you've already played the game enough to know everything. This gave rise to Tatl and then Midna as the final exam.
But genuinely, between being solid about pointing out shit like song of time blocks, lens of truth shit, places to play songs, scarecrow spots, ect, she'll just fucking tell you where to go like 99% of the time.
Her being annoying is SUCH a secondary meme. There's like maybe three places in the game she is, when they're a little too aggressive with the context/location dependant triggers. Like, the hole in the fire temple.
>>
>>739846676
>>
Not to sound as retarded as OP but how were you supposed to know to go to the well as a kid? I played it recently and just remembered that you have to but I don't recall any directions pointing to it
>>
>>739847278
It really is retardation partially caused by modern games leading you by the nose.
I mean ffs, Navi suggests going to see Saria. The gorons near the connection between Goron City and and Lost Woods say they love that song. Saria gives you a hint when talking to her while in Goron City, AND Navi hints at it
>>
>>739847864
I think that is one you're just supposed to trip over, since Kakariko is more or less where you go to restock your bottles and shit, so you probably go there between temples, so get it organically.
Navi may or may not tell you something after the Water Temple though, I don't remember. I haven't done Adult linearly as intended since the 2000s.
>>
>>739847864
Since its later in the game its harder to figure out, but there are a few things
After the cutscene in Kakariko of it on fire, Sheik mentions you have to be able to see the shadow monster (Bongo Bongo)
There is also an NPC that mentions a man with an "eye that sees truth" and his house was where the windmill is now
Navi will give hints in the village and hover at the well.
And ofc Talking to Guru Guru as an adult is a huge hint
>>
>>739847864
>>739848129
Wait, you mean as a kid. That's easier.
You get the ability to turn back to a kid right after the Kakariko cutscene, so it makes sense to come back. And then just through reasonable expectations of exploration probably found the Song of Storms, so going to show the guy is probably something you're thinking about.
I do remember as a kid, that was actually literally the first thing I wanted to do when I realized I could turn back, 'cuz I thought showing the guy the song he said I showed him was cool as shit.
>>
>>739846676
They released printed game guides.
>>
>>739847864

was anyone else unable to get the fire tunic? when I played the game, I got through the Fire Temple without ever getting it because I had no idea where you were supposed to get it but after beating the game I couldn't get it from the rolling Goron dude in the city
>>
>>739848893
You can buy it in the store in goron city.
>>
>>739848893
no
Because as a kid there is the BIG one rolling and I had stopped him
So as an adult I knew what to do
>>
>>739848929
it's always t's out of stock, I don't think you can buy any of the tunics in the shops

I had the gold cartridge, maybe they changed it later

my save file has a number that says "001" which I assume it means that I missed an item?
>>
>>739846945
Isn't it kinda weird that Death Mountain conveniently has a path that takes you right away to the lost woods? Imagine how many Gorons died accidentally walking into the wrong hallway.
>>
>>739849146
Thats why they blocked it off with boulders
>>
>>739849142

You can buy replacement tunics if yours gets eaten by a Like-Like, but have to get the legit tunic first.

What's the evolutionary advantage of exploding when something picks you up?
>>
>>739849679
To spread seeds
It happens irl with some plants
>>
>>739849679
The explosion spreads seeds.
>>
>>739848893
Once I missed it, but afterwards I learned it's that you have to use a real bomb, not a bomb flower.
I think you may also have to set the bomb off early with an arrow (or deku nut depending on your version)
>>
i think the biggest aspect of this game I hate is how everything else that's not tied to the main quest is so boring with the payoff being practically useless

i loved getting lost in the world though and finding shit like the bunny hat man just resting in a spot or a random Po in Hyrule field
>>
>>739849679
Usually it's gonna be one of two things.
First, as mentioned, spreading seeds.
Second, is discouraging things from eating it/certain things from eating it. If a plant does something weird, it's gonna be one of these two things like 90% of the time. It wants bugs or birds to eat it, not mammals (peppers do this), or it wants to be picked up, then panic thrown away to maximize dispersal.
The remaining 10% is either to attract pollinators, or fix nitrogen, niether of which seem super likely given that it's the full grown fruit, so it doesn't need polinating, and explodes, meaning any animal remains are probably also dispersed.
>>
>>739850090
>It wants bugs or birds to eat it, not mammals
Conversely there are plants specifically evolved to get mammals to eat it but try to stop insects or even birds from eating it.
>>
>>739850090
>. It wants bugs or birds to eat it, not mammals (peppers do this)
And of course humans are one of the few species who actually like eating something that makes them feel like Satan is taking a burning diarrhea dump in their mouths, so boy did that strategy succeed in an entirely unintended way!
>>
>>739850310
Evolving to manipulate humans is an effective strategy too, plants like rye and oats started as completely useless parasites on wheat fields but since only the ones that could convincingly mimic wheat got spared by farmers, over time they became more and more wheat-like which eventually included having usable grains.
>>
>>739848494
yeah the well definitely felt like something you should be able to interact with at some point so you would file it away in the back of your mind. and then there's also the guy in Kakariko who wants to know the Song of Storms and that requires going back as a kid, so you start putting it together.

the game is not hard, I beat it as a kid without guides. but you do have to play with a different mindset than most people play games with nowadays. you have to pay attention to the world, be willing to experiment and try things, talk to everyone and try interacting with everything. if you just go on autopilot and expect to be railroaded through the game you'll probably have trouble.
>>
>>739846676
Navi tells you and reminds you every few minutes. Sorry you're retarded, I guess. Very common among those your age.
>>
>>739848893
How did you even get to the fire temple? Darunia’s room is locked until you talk to his kid (which he gives you the tunic). That entrance to DMC is how you can reach the Shiek spot. The other entrance from the Trail brings you to a ledge lower than another with an orange rock (the entrance to the fairy fountain) so it’s not a normal jump up.
You had to do some kind of crazy jump to make it to the fire temple.
>>
>>739846676
You never once thought to check up on your best friend?
>>
>>739850468
>You had to do some kind of crazy jump to make it to the fire temple.
I did, you only need to get into the temple before the timer in the volcano runs out. in the Fire Temple itself not much changes other than some rooms will also have timers on them
>>
>>739850431
Life, uh, uh, finds a way.
>>
>>739850838
>*throws away ocarina*
>>
>>739850468
I think the temple is accessible from.the normal crater entrance, it's just unlikely you'll make it on however much non-tunic time you have unless you have a fuckton of hearts.
The broken bridge needs the hookshot to get across (or hover boots, I guess), but that's true from either entrance. The goron kid is the soft requirement for the bow, and thus Forest Temple to be done before Fire, but isn't strictly required since you can just time a regular bomb, or have a bunch of hearts and go the long way.
>>
I knew about this because in my country OoT came packaged with a little book that had translations for every text box in the game, so I could read ahead and infer what I had to do based on that
>>
>>739846676
Darunia tells you he likes music from the forest and the lost woods are connected to Goron City... Also Navi tells you to go back.
You got filtered by reading OP.
>>
>>739850994
I remember hearing you could skip using the fire tunic like that from another kid, so I used to do it for fun/a challenge, but always went back and got the tunic after.

Bullshit, it is absolutely not forced.
Navi IS obnoxious, just like kaepora gaybora, and basically everyone in the fucking game who cant stfu.
That doesnt mean they arent helpful for idiots and toddlers, but just because brainlets find them helpful also doesnt mean that everyone else has no right to find them obnoxious.
Fi is exactly as obnoxious but is less "cryptic", and people hate her, and Mackenzie is less obnoxious and equally "cryptic", and he absolutely tanked the game's sales.

The fact is that zoomers are so offended by the idea of something not catering to them (an sjw/woke horseshoe holdover) that they get upset when something isnt constantly dumbed down in proportion to their level, meanwhile gen X and millennials get so bent out of shape that these retards with record low IQ cant handle the most minor variation and then reflexively defend dumb things as a retroactive positive.

Its perfectly fine to admit navi is annoying while also being a resource.
>>
>>739851404
You don't strictly need either tunic.
The Zora tunic is probably the more useless one, there's basically no occasion that you'll actually need to be underwater for over a minute. It adds a little more boot juggling which sucks.
The Goron tunic, there's like, iirc, three rooms including the crater itself that it's genuinely useful in, but then its real value actually comes from spikes in later dungeons, which are coded the same as lava so deal no damage.
>>
>>739849146
It's crazy how Death Mountain connects to Lost Woods to Zora's fountain.
>>
>>739852262
Gerudo Valley feeds into Lake Hylia.
Lake Hylia and Zora's Domain connect
Zora's Domain connects to the Lost Woods, which also connects to Death Mountain.
If the Greudo to Lake Hylia transition weren't one way, it would be interesting that you could go everywhere except Hyrule Castle and Lon Lon Ranch without ever touching Hyrule Field.
>>
>>739852674
Zora's Fountain has an unused exit for Zora's River too which idk why they put up a fence and removed it. Interconnectivity is always good.
>>
>>739852857
I wish you could go over the side of Death Mountain, at that spot where you can look down on Kakariko, and "fall" into Kakariko from there.
It's kinda stupid, but would be kino.

I vividly remember being stuck in this spot for a couple of days as a kid when the game first released. Honestly a pretty formative gaming memory.
I got really frustrated because I tried playing Zelda's Lullaby and Epona's Song over and over at Darunia wondering why they wouldn't work. When I learned Saria's Song I couldn't wait to get back to Darunia in order to give it a try.

Good times. Progressing through videogames used to be a lot more slow paced. I got stuck multiple times and I just ended up wandering through the game world doing other stuff. Finishing the whole game probably took me a couple of months back then. Nowadays you just look up a guide when you're stuck and you'll probably knock out the whole first childhood segment in a single sitting.
