why are Fromsoft the only devs that have resisted making their game visuals look shiny/plasticky
They seem to have some actual artists working on their team as opposed to indians who know how to click presets in UE5. That being said, elden ring looks kind of washed out and plasticky compared to their previous games
Dark Souls is the shiniest game I ever played
>>739850609Because they're still using Havok
>>739851078I agreereshade makes the game really pop
>>739850609>Hire actual artists for game design.>Hire stage actors for voice acting.>Have a cohesive message to relay.>Stick to your vision instead of looking to please everyone.Basically just be passionate.
>>739850609They’re not interested in photorealism. Overly hi def graphics are the RDR2 looting animations of aesthetic. Coming close to but missing what a real facsimile’s like is way more jarring than intentional abstraction. (Losing the thread but my point was i’m way more “aware” I’m playing a game as I watch Arthur pick up every single fucking thing in a shelf than if it happened faster and less realistically) Best in the industry artstyle carries serviceable graphics and makes it so that never happens.
>>739851132I fucking love how shiny ds1 is. Shame it got turned it to dull plastic in the remaster
>>739850609>>739851078>>739851353FromSoftware have had the same artists since Demon's Souls.>2009 Demon's Souls>2011 Dark Souls>2014 Dark Souls II>2015 Bloodborne>2016 Dark Souls III>2019 Sekiro>2022 Elden Ring>2024 Elden Ring DLC>2025 Elden Ring Nightreign>2026 The Duskbloods
>>739851810It's gunna be a shame if they leave. They're REALLY good at what they do.
>>739851972I liked the remake desu
>>739852105I don't think you do. I think you're a lying little schemer looking to get a rise out of me.
>>739850609They're just very tasteful. Part of it is that Elden Ring is basically an elaborate Dark Souls 3 mod. So its graphic technology predates the big swing in recent years to plasticy and awkwardly photorealistic graphics and aesthetics. I always liked the look of DS3 back then, and Elden Ring mildly improves on it while still retaining the same style. Nightreign is just an elaborate Elden Ring mod, itself. So ditto. Elden Ring 2 or whatever their next big action RPG is otherwise, will be the real test of whether or not they can survive the transition to 2020s era graphical technology, if they decide to make the jump.
Dark Souls / Dark Souls 2 / Elden Ring>Estus is greater than grinding grass and blood vials>More diverse locations>Open-world>Most weapons are samey and reskin >Lots of bosses (most are jank)>The massive decline in quality after Anor Londo / Leyndell>DLCs are the highlight of the gamesDemon's Souls / Bloodborne / Dark Souls 3>Better level design>Better NPCs and their respective quests>Quality over quantity (Less is more)>Hub area (Nexus, Hunter's Dream, Firelink)>Level up waifu (Maiden in Black, Doll, Firekeeper)>Boletaria, Yarnham and Lothric and its surroundings feel like one place and have the same cool atmosphere throughout the game>Dark Souls 3 borrows a lot from Demon's Souls
