His existence is tied to the summoning spell, meaning he ceases to exist physically once the Fayth stop dreaming and Yu Yevon is defeated. Tidus became "more than a dream" when he was touched by Sin. This event occurred early in the game when Sin (which had absorbed his father, Jecht) pulled Tidus out of Dream Zanarkand and into the real world of Spira.
