>STILL the GOAT
How did they do it?
>>
Kind of hard to be the GOAT with no games
Especially vs the best console of all time, the Nintendo 64 :)
>>
>>739862496
I never liked how the PSOne looked. Something about it always bugged me. The original PlayStation looked way better
>>
>>739862496
No one ever actually owned this version of the PS1, but so many people owned the PS2 Slim. Explain.
>>
>>739862496
The n64 mogs it hard
>>
>>739862496
Roomba?
>>
>>739862584
Anon, the Sony console has ONE in the name, while the Nintendo console has 64(th place) in it.
How are they comparable?
>>
>>739862734
ONE stands for ONE game
The 64 stands for raping snoy in the ass 64 times
>>
PS2 clears it
Super Nintendo clears it
Switch clears it
Xbox360 clears it

PS1 is top 5
>>
>>739862496
The GOAT of slopware.
>>
>>739862660
PSOne released after the PS2. It was the budget option for the poor kids.
PS2 Slim was a mid-gen refresh.

Of course.
>>
>>739862584
Armored Core, Resident Evil, Powerslave. That's three really good games and not even an exhaustive list of the ones I can name.
>>
>starts a thread about a console instead of the actual games on it
Fanboys are such insufferable faggots.
>>
>>739862635
I think the PSone looks really cool while the original Playstation is ugly. Love the 90s fish design.
>>
>>739862660
I owned one, two actually. Both times I already owned a PS2 and bought it because it looked cool.

Anyways, the PS2 slim was released before the PS3, and the PS3 was absurdly expensive at launch, so it got widely adopted by even people who weren't desolately poor. The PSone was for people who couldn't afford a PS2 at launch or cheapskates who didn't want to pay next gen price, so you probably didn't know anybody who owned one, since cheapskates and brokies tend to be in separate cirlces from middle class normies. Or at least they were in 2000 when we still had a middle class.
>>
>>739864401
I like Armored Core. Its pretty fun. You have any favorites on the PS1?

Burning CDs is fun though.
>>
>>739862660
I have a PSone, it's my primary PS1 console too. My old fat one stopped reading CDs so I bought the slim off craigslist like 15 years ago. Still running burnt CDs with Tonyhax just fine

I might buy another fat and xstation once this one dies though
>>
>>739865301
Don't let those anons get you down, the PSone is the coolest original Playstation model
>>
>>739865301
I still have mine. Shame it doesn't work anymore :(
>>
>>739865398
>Still running burnt CDs with Tonyhax just fine
You heard of FreePSXboot? Its way better than Tonyhax since you don't need a Tony Hawk disc, just a memory card.
>>
>>739862496
PSone dual-shock controller is by far the best 'feeling' controller I've ever used
It's like it was made from distilled comfy.
>>
>>739865441
The laser dead? You can replace those, you know.
>>
>>739865556
Yeah, I actually use the version of FreePSXBoot that boots into TonyHax so you don't need a supported game. Vanillia FreePSXBoot comes with some outdated Unirom shit that doesn't have any anti-modchip support so some games like Dino Crisis need patches. https://alex-free.github.io/tonyhax-international/freepsxboot-exploit.html
>>
>>739862496
i miss mine so much
>>
>>739865659
I thought Unirom was newer than Tonyhax.
>>
>>739865603
Nah, when I turn it on there's no image for a few minutes and then there's a weird buzzing coming from the TV speakers.
Maybe some capacitors are busted, IDK.
>>
I owned one (refurbished by some dodgy gaming store selling pirated games)
>>
>>739865723
I'm not sure, but when I just used Freepsxboot and Unirom, I had to download anti-crack patches for certain games and also had compatibility issues with stuff like Crash Team Racing constantly getting stuck on infinite loading screens that didn't happen with Freepsxboot + Tonyhax using the same burnt CD.
>>
>>739865757
You tried replacing the cables?
>>
>>739865841
I lost the original cables long ago and bought cheap replacements. Could be something wrong with those.
>>
>>739865797
Some googling says that Unirom has built in video patching for PAL to NTSC conversion, so that's probably why its the standard.
>>
>>739866089
Is the power cable a PSone cable or a PS2 slim cable, because the PS2 slim cables fit but are not the right voltage. Could also be a bad video cable.
>>
>>739864017
I kneel gptGod
>>
>>739862496
money
>>
>>739866148
It says "for PlayStation 1" and it's 7.5V.
The video cable just says "station" but it's heavily implied to be for PS2s. Are the video cables not interchangeable between the consoles?
>>
>>739862496
Not that third-worlder model.
>>
I love the ads they had for this thing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STPGOV9NYvg
>>
>>739866515
The video cables should be interchangeable, but I find that the cheapo video cables are pieces of shit and break real easy. Is this a composite or component cable?
>>
>>739866753
Composite.
>>
>>739865757
PsOnes are due for recaps and it tends to restore them to excellent working condition. Those things are incredibly well built. I've recapped a handful that went from dead with no output or activity to being the best working playstations I have.
>>
>>739866867
nta, but how hard is recapping for someone who's never soldered before?
>>
>>739862660
I remember it was flimsier than the original one too
>>
>>739866970
>never soldered before
Get practice and you're going to need tools. I'd recommend a ts101 iron, treela 8341 flux, Kester 24-6337-0027 solder and TOWOT solder wick.

Cap kits are around $10 after shipping from console5.

The caps are all surface mount which aren't the easiest for newbies, you have to be precise and careful especially on psones which do have cramped regions.

What do you practice on? Ewaste? Specialized soldering kits?
>>

Yeah, I was kinda suspecting that was the case, but I never messed with soldering and don't trust anyone in my area.
Guess I'll just be putting this project back on hold. Thank God for emulation.

Practice on anything, this way you can understand how different boards react to how you apply heat, how you hold the iron and apply flux. You want to be able to look at all kinds of scenarios in soldering and know how to approach it, how to fix fuck ups (torn pads/damaged traces happen all the time on 20+ year old consoles with leaky caps) and how to best solder to all kinds of contacts and vias.

>>739867378
Whatever you do, don't give up on it and throw it out. There's a working PS1 in there just waiting to be fixed.
>>
>>739867594
>Whatever you do, don't give up on it and throw it out.
Rest assured, I won't. Thanks for the help.
>>
just dump a ton of flux on the board, get your iron to 400+C, and wave it around like a retard, youll be fine
>>
>>739862660
>No one ever actually owned this version
My original version crapped out and the PS one model was the only new model available in stores once it came out. This was like in 2000 by the way
>>
>>739867594

How many years now has a singular autistic retard been trying to force that the Saturn was even in the competition?

It's like going
>Who won, the SNES or Genesis?
>The Turbografx 16 fucking mogs, bitch
>>
>>739868625
The Turbografx 16 was really cool though.
>>
>>739868625
NTA, but the N64 also "wasn't even in the competition" outside the US. Hell, Japan's war was PS1 vs Saturn.
>>
>>739868065
Old voultar vids, but otherwise just practice because it's like teaching someone how to paint. You pick up the brush and get started, same with the iron. Get practice, it's not as hard as you think it is but there is technique.
>>
>>739862660
You're full of shit. I had this exact model thinking it was the original and never realizing there was another variant that came before it until several years later, I have NEVER seen the original Playstation in person, only in pictures or videos.
>>
>>739868905
Pretty much the same. All my friends that had a Playstation had that version. I didn't know about the original version until many years later I saw it on the internet.
