Just finished Bioshock 2, what'd I think of it?yes I am the same guy who made a thread about Bioshock 1 the other day
>>739862565better game than infinite and better without Kevin.
>>739862565You thought it was the best game in the series.
It's the best bioshock game. That might not be saying much but that is what it is.
Better gameplay than the first, but the story is not as interesting. Except for Minerva's Den, which is basically the peak of the entire series.
>>739862565They threw out like 4 vastly more interesting versions of the game just to re-release the first game with 1% better combat.
>>739862565you thought it would be cool to get captured by a big sister and be her plaything as she uses her special pheromones to brainwash you
>>739862565>yes I am the same guy who made a thread about Bioshock 1 the other dayYou're not special, we don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
>>739862565Play all 5 games in the series
>>739862817nah
>>739862853They're so good tho
>>739862893infinite is not good "tho"you shit.
>>739862948SSR is literally the best game of the entire series
>>739862817Haven't played Infinite in a while, worth a replay? What about Minerva's Den? >>739862617Also haven't played Burial at SeaSS1 OG I've played, SS2 someday...
>>739863035Minerva's Den > Burial at Sea > InfiniteBut you should really plaY SSR
>>739862565You thought it was way better than bioshock 1, and you know infinite is shit so you won't touch it. Eleanor is the better daughteru anyway.
>>739862565It's better than 1 in basically every way except level design.
>>739862565Only good game in the series
>>739862565Better gameplay, better balancing, worse plot.Drill dashing people's heads in never gets old, ever.
>>739862565You thought it was good and the atmosphere was strong as always but you feel a bitter taste in your mouth after realizing it was woke garbage because they retconned Andrew's downfall to being mindbroken by a woman
>>739862606I remember when the game launched, it got a ton of hate. I think Infinite retroactively made a lot of people appreciate it more. That said, I played 2 first and loved it, but after going back to 1, I can see why many still consider it the better game overall. Gameplay-wise, 2 blows 1 out of the water, but 1 just feels superior as a complete package.
>>739862565Damn you blitzed through that.I'm the guy who was still going through Bioshock 1 in the last thread and I'm only past Arcadia. A level a day is all I can get myself to do
only good gameplay in the series. there is an actual flow to combat rather than the non-design of 1 and the virtually infinite ammo mid range shooting galleries of Infinite
>>739862565if you don't hate everything about Bioshock Infinite then you are not my nigga
>>739862565Don't forget to play the dlc too. The computer mission was pretty damn good.
>>739866516not really sure why I was able to go through it so quickly, this was also exploring just about everywhere and getting all the little sisters
>>739862565Best in the trilogy.Tankie troons hate it because a collectivist is the villain and the underlying theme of the game is about the importance of a child having a father.
>>739863030It's good, really good, but best in the series? Not while System Shock 2 exists.
>>739862817I'll seed Elizabeth while Ken Levine watches.
>>739866838>SS2too hand holdy.Ruined Shodan.
>>739863035Infinite's worth a replay up through the hall of heroes I'd say
>>739862565Best Shock in the series since System Shock 2. Leaning into the action was the best idea as BS1 felt like a heavily gutted console slop SS2.I don't know what the fuck they were thinking with Infinite, it was a huge downgrade from 2 when it came to action, and it definitely wasn't a return-to-form.
>>739866838you forgot the chad hacker
>>739862565> yes I am the same guy who made a thread about Bioshock 1 the other dayWhy are you playing video games?
minerva's den is better than bioshock 1. Best story in the whole series.
>>739866503>but 1 just feels superior as a complete package.I also disagree with that. The father-daughter dynamic of 2 is superior to the jew-theme brainwashing garbage of the first game.
>>739872495Lazy fucking Lighthouse reference tho.I mean Jack R/Hacker was pretty on the nose, but Rodan/Shodan? I mean come on.
>>739873793>look at you, nigger. A pathetic creature of nig and nog
>>739866838>has never seen a console in his lifeThat ages poorly
>>739862565If you have a brain, you thought it was the best one
>>739862565You thought that it was the best bioshock.
>>739874395Because of her?
>>739875009Big Sisters were such a great enemy and a masterful evolution on the Big Daddy concept from a gameplay perspective. The most fun I had in Bioshock 2 was setting up a battle arena with traps when I knew a Big Sister was coming. Best fights in the game.
>>739875009Because of them + better in every way compared to the others.https://youtu.be/96j6peCrjb4
>>739875230Mogged (and incites a confused boner)https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=o7eyVYBCQ7c&t=3s
what's up with minerva's den dickriding? it was good but contrarians seem to treat it like it's some kinda revelation when it's just more of the same
>>739862565You thought nothing at all and totally forgot it cause it's a totally unmemorable rehash of 1
>>739875607Bio 1 fags who think twist = best story ever
>>739875607That's how I feel. The dick riding started on *another* website, so I'm thinking it has something to do with the race of the protagonist.
>>739875607?Bioshock 2 is famously the contrarian choice of the series
>>739875694Not in such exaggerated terms, but yeah it does make it better than the other games in the series, yes.
>>739875750Even hbomberfag thinks bioshock 2 is the best in the series so it's hardly a contrarian opinion these days. When it released and in the year following Infinite when people still thought confusing meta narrative = profound, yes definitely contrarian. Now? No.Then again, he did spend 3.5 hours shitting on Human Revolution and touting Deus Ex 1 as being defacto best game ever made (true and factual statement), so he aint all bad.
>>739875750In what universe? Literally everyone agrees it has the best gameplay in the series. I have never once seen anyone claim 1 or Infinite beat it.
>>739876508Nigger you need to get off /v/
>>739876557I do which is why I know nobody ever says that you lying piece of shit.
>>739876557lmao what? /v/ is just about the only place you'd ever see someone say 2 doesn't have the best gameplay because THAT is the contrarian opinion.
>>739876329Hbomberguy was wrong about literally everything
>>739876582https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gm9Eta491O8You're a newfag and it shows
>>739876735This
I assume I should play the originals rather than the remasters, right?
>>739862704I remember his thread. I don't remember /v/ contrarian of the day #2356 (you) though
>>739876934Originals except for System Shock 1. Remake is far better for newcomers. Then play the original.
>>739876879>posts a video that DOESN'T say the gameplay is worseAlso Yahtzee is a massive contrarian who just says shit to be provocative because that's his persona. Also if you weren't a retard you could look int he comments of that very video and see LITERALLY EVERYONE AGREEING THAT THE GAMEPLAY IN 2 IS BETTER. You literally could not have done a worse job of trying to illustrate your point if you tried.
>>739877097>Also Yahtzee is a massive contrarian who just says shit to be provocative because that's his persona. Also if you weren't a retard you could look int he comments of that very video and see LITERALLY EVERYONE AGREEING THAT THE GAMEPLAY IN 2 IS BETTER. You literally could not have done a worse job of trying to illustrate your point if you tried.
>>739877246
>>739862565I enjoyed the gameplay but the story was a step down from 1. Minerva's Den also had a better story.
>>739877263You're crashing out, Sephiroth
>>739877246>u dumCompelling argument
>>739876879This retard thinks Spec Ops: The Line is one of the best game ever tho
>>739877742He is correct
>>739877742He's right though.
>>739877794Nah it's a military FPS equivalent of Mixtape, where the major appeal of the game lies on the retarded narrative, while the gameplay is a drab that might as well as consider it as non-existent.He only likes this shit because just like all the other journalists, he's tired of playing video games for a job and he'd rather turn off his brain and watch a shallow normalfag entertainment. It clearly shows from him having a zero clue about a difference in gameplay in Bioshock 2.
>>739878079>while the gameplay is a drab that might as well as consider it as non-existentI don't argue with jeets
>>739866665i'm sorry anon, i know 3dpd but fictional woman prease unnastan
>>739862565Best game in there series.
>>739875607probably because it had a laser gun, an actual twist and a big proto-Shodan robot as the main narrative hook
>>739862565>>739866778I don't know if I think 1 or 2 is the strictly better game. But I'm more fond of 2 because of the theming, yeah. Felt more attached to shit by playing full Dad Mode.
>>739862565Any hopes and fears for Bioshock 4?
>>739862606BioShock 2 was always highly underrated, the story is a lot better than 1.
The story doesn't hang on le epic twist so it's already better than the first one.
>>739862565Does Jew Levine hate this game because it's anti-communism/collectivism? The dev commentary in Bioshock 1 from him is really interesting when he talks about how it was important he make most of the major characters Jewish, but in varying degrees of "in touch" with their Judaism. At one point he says it was important that every characters flaws/moral failures created their own predicament, but said Jack/the PC basically represented how the rest of the world has an obligation to do what's right and protect the Jews, even the mess is of their own making.
>>739862817I've never played any of these, is system shock related to bioshock in some way?
>>739862565>what'd I think of it?better gameplay better dlc better story
>>739882996Mandatory viewinghttps://files.catbox.moe/3hlh30.mp4
>>739881640He canonized Bioshock 2 in the book"Rapture"Which he heavily oversaw. His main issue with BS2 was that he wanted each game to tackle a different sociopolitical theme. "Collectivism/communism bad", was already covered in System Shock 2. He felt that BS2 was retreading old ground.
>>739880039Judas?I'm hopeful
>>739886517It was also partly canonized in BaS
>>739862565Best game in the series.>simple but relatable story>good main character >Eleanor is miles better than Elizabeth>little sisters are actually cute in this game>gameplay is a vast improvement over the first oneOh and you kill commie splicers this time with a drill.
>>739886634SSR is better
>>739886134Interdasting, thank you anon.
>>739866665I liked the carbine. It was an M1 carbine knockoff, but I fucking love the M1 carbine
>>739886634>Oh and you kill commie splicers this time with a drill.I prefer killing commie zombies
>>739866665We had a thread the other day where some guy talked about playing Infinite over(?) 10 times and how it was the greatest game, and spent at least 2 hours defending it.>_<
Bump
>>739877246Isn't that nigga dead?
>>739889781Wtf rly?
>>739886517where was system shock 2 about collectivisit/communist critique? That’s not really something covered in the story, most pre-Many audio logs are people complaining about the Von Braun or faction tension. I don’t consider The Many to be an effective analogue for those either.
>>739866665I liked using the skylines to glide around and shoot people. But yeah everything else was pretty subpar.
>>739886134>>739886804I agree, but it's been so long can someone QRD me WTF is going on?
>>739866778I do think the themes are moreso valuing the importance of living your life seeking to make connections and protect the ones you love rather than sacrificing everything for some retarded ideals in general. I thought it was the perfect way to launch off of Bioshock 1's ending of Jack, the sleeper agent bred specifically for Fontaine's machinations, adopting all the little girls who were turned into things to serve the good of Rapture and living happily ever after. Surprised that Kevin would hate it, though.
>>739890047The Many represents collectivism. Its a collective hive mind ffs.The moral is>extreme collectivism turns you into a barely thinking pawn in a constant state of cognitive dissonance. The collective promises utopia but it is self evidently monsterous and cannot tolerate discord. The Von Braum (TriOptimum) and the Rikkenbacker (Earth government) both succumb to The Many, because neither Public nor Private politics/industries, are immune to commies.
>>739890443Every Shock game takes place in the same universe and every character is an alternate version of one from the "prime" timeline.Games in the Shock series:>System Shock 1&2>Bioshock 1 - Infinite
>>739862565I am the minority here in that I liked it less than the first, less spooky moments. The multiplayer however was 10 out of 10, made by the warframe people.
>>739890782The constant fkn Zerg rush was lame
>>739889941No, I mixed him up with CompleteBisquik, MB.
>>739890737Thanks! Only question is what is the Prime timeline? Also, I did ask AI for a summary and it did a good job here: https://chat.deepseek.com/share/sdwnrahx5y66gtlp9x
>>739890737>>739890919AI'd it again.>Heh...hehe GAYnorThe "Minerva's Den" Connection (A Dev's Pet Theory)There is one more direct, though unofficial, link. Steve Gaynor, the lead writer for the BioShock 2 DLC Minerva's Den, has explicitly stated that he and his team intentionally seeded connections to link the games' universes .According to Gaynor's "ridiculous retconning," a shared timeline would look like this:1950s (Rapture): The computer RODIN (Rapture Operational Data Interpreter Network) is created.Post-Rapture (The Surface): After the fall of Rapture, scientist Charles Milton Porter (the protagonist of Minerva's Den) returns to the surface.Technological Evolution: The technology from Rapture influences surface-world computing.Future (System Shock): The name RODIN eventually morphs into ODIN and then SHODAN (Sentient Hyper-Optimized Data Access Network), the malevolent AI from System Shock .This would place BioShock's Rapture as a prequel to the System Shock games. Gaynor also extended this shared universe to include his later game, Gone Home, which he set in the same world as BioShock
>>739890583Reading a late 90s video game as being about the dangers of collectivisim/communism sounds pretty stupid considering what happened IRL. The person leading the Many is a russian capitalist for crying out loud.
>>739890919There's some debate.Back when Bioshock 1 came out, we knew they were connected but weren't sure how. Infinite explained it, and the cut Citadel sequence explained why Elizabeth turns evil. But we'll never know if Infinite is Prime, or if SS1 is prime. Its up to you I guess.
>>739891040Huh.Neat.Don't know if Ken approves, but I l8ke it.
>>739891153Anatoly isn't leading The Many."Anatoly" is gone.
>>739862565It was good. It was my introduction to the franchise, and the dual wielding sold it for me. I tried to go back to Bioshock 1 but it felt worse to play since you can only use one weapon or one plasmid at a time.
>>739862565You hate how fast the drill ran out of fuel
bioshock 2 has unique ideas but is overall a step down due to the game simply being less scary. being a big daddy makes the game kinda boring lowkey. also it makes no sense that ur so weak in this game. like we are weak af even tho we're a big daddy. and yes i know we are some sort of prototype version but still. mid game imho. also every time i tired to beat it the game would randomly crash and i would lose like a literal hour of progress. because i would forget to save and u never knew when it was gonna crash. so yes bioshock 1 is better. even did the permadeath shit on that game. bioshock infinite is good too but kind of a slog. 8/10 game.so what do i think of bioshock as a franchise? a reddit game. but i'll give it a pass...this time.
>>739882996they have basically zero in common from gameplay perspective other than being in first person
>>739893705You are so wrong its fucking baffling
Bioshock 2 expands on the gameplay and combat possibility but Lamb cannot even come close to Ryan as a character. Which is why she's often seen as a comparison to him and not really as a character itself. Doesn't help that for half of the game she fucks off and doesn't even taunt you over the radio until the game is already over.Infinite sucks huge cock though
how do you guys play through an entire game in like 9 hours? I mean Bioshock 2 isn't that long, but 9 hours is like just running through each area and never going any actual exploration or looking for hidden stuff or anything, just bumrushing from objective to objective and never taking any time to soak in any of the atmosphere or anything. What is the point of playing like that?
drill kino
>>739894209it's a console game for console players what did you expect
>>739894004I got all the achievements for 1 and 2 but man I really couldn't do it with Infinite. I did 1 extra playthrough since my first time playing it when it came out and man I remembered it being bad but it's somehow even worse than I remembered it being. Couldn't bring myself to do the challenge playthroughs, get all the collectables or do the DLC.
