Whatcha playing on Switch 2 /v/? Im currently on Yoshi atm, but I switch between Metroid Prime 4 and Mario Wonder DLC whenever I feel the need to alternate.
Picked up Dragon Quest 3d Remake and Outer Wilds on sale. Also picked up Mina the Hollower. Going to rotate through those this weekend. Just shiny resetting for Charmander in Fire Red right now while I watch something.Honestly I haven't touched my Switch 2 much since finishing Pokopia, but I've been in a little bit of a nostalgic Nintendo mood and haven't been feeling like using my pc at all lately. So I laid down with it this week and went through my library. Honestly I kinda want to go through and replay a lot of my Switch library. Also kinda want to get back into playing online games like Smash, Splatoon, and Mario Kart.More than anything I want to get through my JRPG backlog and play the Xenoblade or Fire Emblem games but I'm afraid they'll get a patch one of these days. Also want to pick up Remake and Rebirth whenever they go on sale.Got too damn much to play.
I'm going to commit it beating Bananza this weekend. I have until next Tuesday to do it. I'm starting from the beginning since its been so long. Hope I don't get too distracted by chores and an ear infection.
Just finished Metroid Prime 4, playing Metroid Prime Remastered because I needed something more than pure linearity back in my veins. It's honestly crazy how different the design philosophies between the two games is even though I didn't mind MP4. I just hope MP5 is nothing like it.
In this economy, I've been attacking my extremely long backlog, finally playing thru, Mario + Rabids 2 on S2, looks pretty well run to say the least
>>739866614>Got too damn much to play.Tell me about it. Don't even get me started on my PS4 or Xbox backlogs. My PS4 backlog folder is like in the 90+ mark last I checked.
Man I hate this weird era we're in. Can I get a fuckin uhhhhh big ass normal direct. No more of this random Starfox Direct dropped at 7pm on a weeknight or Nintendo Today announcement.>>739866081How's Yoshi? Looked a little too babby for me but at the same time it looks like it could be chill and kinda charming.
>>739866081This
>>739866965>It's honestly crazy how different the design philosophies between the two games is???>map pinpoints where to go next>go there get new ability>repeatPrime 4 just adds a voiced reminder if you spend 15 minutes in Sol Valley.
Mostly Tomodachi life while I wait for Elliot.Starting to get annoyed that everyone wants to live with my two married pairs instead of anyone else.I also hate how you can't upload screens normally.
>>739868160You're completely missing the fact that MP1 and MP2 structure their levels in such a way that you are constantly going around to different locations in the maps, going back and forth between new and old areas to unlock new items or maps, unlocking new parts of the map that the map terminal didn't grant you, backtracking to older maps to unlock new parts, and are generally not told where to go at all unless you've been idle for like 30+ minutes. You're very expertly nudged by the developers through the map designs as to where you're expected to go. Even MP3, which is constantly derided as being very linear, still had this same philosophy for the map designs. Skytown is a great example.MP4 specifically gives you the entire map outright and hides stuff within areas you've already been to so you're never really unlocking new locations or parts of the map. It's all basically in the same areas you've already traversed. Volt Forge is the perfect example of this. The fact that the Great Mine is literally a straight line you can't deviate from was extremely disappointing, and the same applies to Ice Belt and Flare Pool is equally as disappointing.Another big issue is that MP4 focuses on the Shots so you're never feeling like you gained a good upgrade but rather a boring sidegrade and so many enemies mandate different shots that just sticking to Ice and swapping to missile is usually best 90% of the time.
I want a Prime 2 remaster before I want Retro to jump in on Prime 5.
>>739868724Only if it has the button remapping from MP4. Playing MP1R with Morph Ball on Y, Spring Ball on X, and Boost Ball on L is a crime against humanity.
>>739868405I didn't miss that at all.Prime 4>Go through Fury Green>Go to Volt Forge>Go to Flare Pool>Go to Ice Belt>Go to Flare Pool>Go to Ice Belt>Go to Great Mines>Go to Flare Pool>Go to Chrono Tower
How is Age of Imprisonment? It’s the only Switch 2 game in my backlog.
>>739866081Been playing smash ultimate and having a lot of fun with Samus. Also replaying metroid fusion on the side.
>>739869357Yeah, and in all those cases it's straight lines. You're not backtracking to unlock new areas, it's to go to those same areas again. Volt Forge is just to get your suit upgrade and then leave. Ice Belt is just to get access to the one or two rooms locked by the Volt Shot. Flare Pool is solely to Super Missile the rock blocking you from the Mech Part. There's almost nothing to traverse, explore, or find because you explored 98% of the map the first time you were there. Flare Pool's locked rooms without the Volt Shot amount to like four extra rooms with items in them and nothing else.Meanwhile getting the Wave Beam alone means you open up at least three new paths that lead to new elevators or new weapon upgrades in the Chozo Ruins.
>>739866081Playing red dead redemption for the first time, I'm enjoying it a lot.
>schedule next Thursday and Friday off for a long relaxing birthday weekend>dk64 gets announced for the n64 catalog finally and it's on my birthdayThanks shiggy, gonna oh my banana to this one
>>739869535You cannot go through the new areas in Ice Belt and Flare Pool your first time through them.
>>739869535>Ice Belt is just to get access to the one or two rooms locked by the Volt Shot. There's an entire half of the place that's inaccessible until you return. Face it, you're just going to ignore when Prime 1 does the same things you criticize in Prime 4. You should just do yourself a favor and genuinely figure out what it is you dislike about it, so you can be more articulate.
>>739866081Started playing Okami for the first time in about 15 years. I beat it back then, but don't remember a ton of the details. I do remember thinking it was an amazing game. And while not Switch related, I've also been continuing with Persona Q. Currently in the third labyrinth
>>739866081Good price on bing bing wahoo at walmart. Base game + dlc
>>739869751Flare Pool's new areas leading to the mech part are a grand total of two rooms. The others are just like five rooms for optional missile or shot expansions or to specifically get around the Duke doors. You do get the boss arena expanded to chase around a squid for an Energy Tank but that's about it and it's still optional.>>739869801>There's an entire half of the place that's inaccessible until you return. In the revisit you shoot the Volt Shot door in the main elevator room and it leads to like maybe eight extra rooms all with no deviation where you meet the mech and get the Spider Ball. There's no exploring, it's literally just going through the rooms.Metroid Prime 1 and 2 make you go in linear directions but then the map opens up pretty quickly once you start doing that, and you are constantly going through older rooms to find new rooms almost immediately. Like the Ice Beam for example, that entire process is never replicated in MP4 in any way. You go to Phendrana Drifts to get the Boost Ball, go back to the Chozo Ruins to get access to Space Jump, return to PD to get Wave Beam and X-Ray, go back to CR to go to the Furnace I think it was which then has you do the Boost Ball puzzle to get to the actual Ice Beam unlock so that you can then go back to Magmoor to explore it further so that you can get your Grapple Beam to actually go back to the Landing Site so you can enter the Crashed Ship. This doesn't really happen in MP4 at all, everything is along the linear path of progression.>Ice Belt needs Fire Shot so you need to visit Flare Pool to get the chip.>Trudge back to MacKenzie.>Trudge to Ice Belt.>Clear Ice Belt which gives you the Ice Shot and Boost Ball which now allows you to go back Volt Forge to get your suit from the front door and immediately leave.>Then visit MacKenzie again.>Now you can explore Flare Pool to get the Grapple Beam so you can finally go to the two rooms Volt Forge had locked.
Playing Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Pokemon XD GoD on the GameCube service for now. PoR is great so far, fairly sure I'm comfortably in the second half of it now. Pokemon I'm still early in but having fun. Really hope we get more GC games soon, would love Double Dash. Also DK64 being added has revived my hope we'll see Diddy Kong Racing eventually.Very excited for Star Fox, Fire Emblem and Rhythm Heaven.
>>739868019We’ll get a direct soon. We’re reaching the end of the big slate of already announced game.Yoshi is good! It’s a cool sort of pokemon snap puzzle game in the form of a 2D platformer
>>739869409Good for a musou
Rabi-rabi I brought it a long time ago but barely started playing it is a really fun game
>>739870045The dlc was surprisingly good. They should have highlighted the challenges and bosses more in the ads
>>739866081I tried Mario Picross on the GB Virtual Console on a whim and got mad addicted, I keep wanting to pick it back up.I also expect that the Rayman Origins Re-release is going to come out either as a shadowdrop next week, or extremely soon after, so I'm fullly planning on getting that and playing it. I only ever played levels from it via Legends back on the Wii U
Been playing Yoshi and having a good time with it. Unique game. Tried the Mina demo, didn’t like it. Not a souls fan, and the gbc style sucks. Tried some more Rayman Legends after all of the rumors, but I still just find it boring. The movement and level design are both fairly mediocre. And the art is good, but also kind of ugly with character designs. Not for me
>>739871281Mario super picross on the snes virtual console is also very good
FireRed, I'll probably replay DK64 when it comes to NSO.Hoping the demo delisting means Kingdom Hearts is finally coming to the console too.Year's been pretty plain for my taste. Tomodachi isn't really my thing, Tennis seemed too pricey for what it is and while Yoshi looks cute it's just not my kinda game. Looking forward to StarFox and the June Direct.
>>7398669651 is also linear as fuck. A few death ends doesnt make it "open".
>>739872375The term is "dead ends" and the difference between 1 and 4s linearity is that 4s locations (with the exception of the empty open world) are ENTIRELY linear in design, you go through them once, and then potentially go through them again backwards, but they are effectively just long straight lines coming out of the centre. 1s linearity is such that it creates a looping set of paths that promote exploration where they re-meet each other, which plays into the games design around tools granting access to things.
>>739872528The end of the game is also not telling you anything which forces you to explore the entire map. You need to read the Chozo Statues for the key clues and figure out where those keys are based on said clues.
>>739872375MP1 isn't as linear as 4. You can still do things like nearly getting all the temple keys (IIRC there's literally only two you cannot get on your own without all abilities) MP1 also doesn't basically force you down corridors like 4
>>739870675>Flare Pool's new areas leading to the mech part are a grand total of two rooms. It's also a one off thing, because you have to go there TWO TIMES before that. You go through a bunch of rooms both times.>The others are just like five rooms for optional missile or shot expansionsJust like any Metroid game, including Prime 1.>You do get the boss arena expanded to chase around a squid for an Energy TankThat sucked donkey dick.>it leads to like maybe eight extra roomsYou make it sound like a rout procedure, but the irony is the entire franchise is this.>all with no deviationI dont even know what you mean to convey here.>where you meet the mech and get the Spider BallYeah, it's Metroid.>There's no exploring1-800-you kidding me?>it's literally just going through the roomsIt's Metroid.>Metroid Prime 1 and 2 make you go in linear directions but then the map opens upAnd then you continue in linear fashion, seriously I urge you to replay these games. Ironically you seem to be replaying Prime 1 right now, but do not recognize the linearity. These games are LINEAR.>Like the Ice Beam for example, that entire process is never replicated in MP4You fight Chozo Ghosts for the first time and then do a half pipe to get it in Prime 1, in Prime 4 you use a spinner and then psychic control beam. You go back to an area both times, Chozo Ruins and Ice Belt.>You go to Phendrana Drifts to get the Boost BallWorst backtracking in the Prime series. Boost ball into Space jump. They are both linear, you backtrack in both games, Prime 1 has worse backtracking at some point.
>>739872528Prime 2 is the best game in the subseries, and it achieves it by looping level design, at least half of Prime 4 is like that, not nearly half of Prime 1 is like that.
>>739866081started playing Starfox on the SNES collectionthere isn't any of that animal racism I was promised but the game is fun. No clue how to aim outside of cockpit mode though
>>739873337>because you have to go there TWO TIMES before that. The first time through you go through a handful of rooms to reach the chip and get blocked off by Sylux. It's literally a straight line and then when you turn around to leave you go in the only other straight line it lets you.The second time through you go through the entire map which is functionally a straight line. You cannot deviate, you are bound to escorting Duke and Armstrong, and the only deviation allowed is to open up elevators (By going one room away instead of the default path) or go to a save room. The third time through you go to the bridge and Super Missile the wall to go fight a boss for the mech part.>Just like any Metroid game, including Prime 1.Except every single other Metroid game has deviations, connects areas together, connects multiple rooms together into a loop, and more. The only time MP4 does this is with the Psychic Boost Balls at the bottoms of towers 1 and 2 in Volt Forge which just take you between the two quickly, one-way lifts in the same map, and in Ice Belt when you're leaving because you have to use the emergency Morph Ball access to go around the areas locked down.MP4 has nothing like going to the Ice Beam and being able to exit to two separate Tallon Overworld sections depending on which Ice Beam door you take, one taking you to the speedrunner shortcut to the Phazon Mines and the other dropping you off at the Crash Site to get an early Energy Tank.>I dont even know what you mean to convey here.I don't understand how this isn't clear.MP1, MP2, and even MP3 let you go to completely optional rooms as you explore that are not on the main path and get lost. MP4 is borderline straight lines. The Great Mines are literally a straight line.>Ironically you seem to be replaying Prime 1 right now, but do not recognize the linearity.Except it's not literal straight lines like MP4 is and I am constantly weaving in between multiple maps as I go find new stuff.
Hi. How are you? I am fine. I am playing darksiders 2 and Mario cars world.
>>739866081Mina the Hollower at the moment, the switch 2 d-pad feels a bit weird to play with so I might get a controller.
>>739875473Is Mina good so far? Felt like picking it up myself
