Here's your $1000 handheld with specs straight out of 2020 goy.
>>
At Valve Corp we had a dream. To give people PS3 level hardware at PS7 level prices.
>>
A company's main goal is profit
>>
>>739871684
And a consumer's main goal is not getting ripped off.
>>
>>739871507
still better than swtch 2. free online, mods, more games
>>

>>
You aren't entitled to anything
>>
>>739871507
>Ram and storage prices go up 400%
>Valve has to raise prices too
I'm wondering why this is too complicated for you to grasp
>>
So don't buy it. If there's no market demand, the price will have to go down, because it's not worth sitting on them in a warehouse. It wont happen though because amazon had scalped decks going for 1300USD BEFORE the price increase. Remember Valve is private, so they're only beholden to the customer and have no fiduciary commitment to shareholders.
>>
>>739872167
also gabe won't brick your deck on a whim like the switch 2 can
>>
>>739872461
>Ram and storage prices go up 400
This is wrong and RAM/storage is a fraction of the total costs.
>>
>>739872461
The steam deck is weaker than a ps5 and shouldn't be any higher than $500.
For a thousand bucks you could buy a pre-built pc and run things at perfect 1080p
>>
So it's pretty much confirmed they lied about it being sold out just to mark up the prices right?
>>
>>739872530
It seems so yeah
>>

>>739872480
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA YOURE COMPETING WITH AI COMPANIES FOR COMPUTE AND YOU THINK PRICES ARE GOING DOWN HAHAHAHAHA
>>
Stop shitposting and tell me about the 'eck itself. The price hike is fucking bullshit but the world is collapsing anyway
I just want something that I can throw a gorillion emulators into and play some non-AAA shit in bed and when I travel
Is it actually quick to boot things up
Does it work well with mods/workshop/shit outside of workshop
Will it melt my dick off if I hold it in my lap for too long
>>
>>739872594
Kys nigger
>>
>>739872595
It's useless for most games. Just get an Rog Ally X if you can. It's the true emulation king. Deck is too CPU starved.
>>
>>739872606
HAHAHAH THIS RETARD THINKS "PRICES WILL GO DOWN" OH MAN HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
>>
>>739872503
>shouldn't be any higher than $500.
its nothing to do with how weak the console is, its to do with how much components cost.
$500 would buy you just the RAM and storage alone, you're dumb as a fucking rock.
>>
>>739872680
Then why isn't the PS5 $1500?
>>
why the fuck is there so much whining about this bullshit
>waaah for that much you could buy X instead
so do that or better yet save your money but just stop fucking crying incessantly about it
>>
>>739872503
The Nintendo Switch was a low spec tablet when it came out in 2016. A decade later it's basically using the same hardware.
>>
>>739872461
Switch 2 is more powerful than Steam Deck, it comes with a big dock and yet they didn't have to increase the price 400%
>>
>>739872773
What nigger? The Switch 2 is a million times stronger than Switch 1.
>>
>>739872801
Nintendo loses money on the S2, Valve doesn't seem to want to dabble in that.
>>
>>739871684
Only publicly traded companies have that defense.
>>
Once I saw the price hike I realized we're not getting Deck 2 in any reasonable time. Bought a steamOS Legion Go S before that is also 1k
>>
so why doesn't Nintendo do the same then?
>>
>>739872892
Well Valve's main goal is to maximise Gabe's fleet. Yachts don't grow on trees you know?
>>
>>739872862
people buy the switch to get $80 bing bing wahoos but people already have steam accounts with games and people buying $5 games on sale aren't gonna recoup the cost
>>
>>739871507
It's already sold out in some places.
How does Valve keep winning?
>>
What's with the anti-Gabe threads recently, is it some shill psyop?
>>
>>739871507
And fags use it to 90% emulate switch 1 games.
A 10 year old tablet(poorly)
>>
>>739873035
I don't think so, there have been Anti Rimworld threads for half a decade complaining about Rimworld not going on sale.
Poorfags just seethe, not everything is an op. Of course op's do happen.
>>
Please leave the small multi-billionaire company alone.
>>
>>739871507
Imagine making this shit your schitzo holy war. Nobody's going to stop using the Steam app and I doubt the deck is that big a part of their profits this long afte release. I hope you're at least getting paid by Timmy for this.
>>
>>739872302
>Mutts vote for the guy that'll make everything more expensive
>He makes everything more expensive
>Mutts lash out at the companies affected by everything being more expensive because ????????
>>
Gaben lied. I trusted you old man...
>>
>>739872564
>>739872594
The same fag is so strong.
Crazy that a thirdie can't understand that the price went up because there's a market for the deck at that price. If there was no market, scalpers couldn't sell them for MORE than they are right now. If people stopped buying the deck, it would be sold at a lower price to push the steam ecosystem and sell games (maybe even at cost) or they would simply stop making them, which valve hating jews would be fine with. Too bad you must consoom and can't think because you're a faggot retard
>>
>>739871507
if you don't like it and/or don't need it, don't buy it
it's that simple
>>
>>739873187
Look, I hate the mutts as much as the next guy, but it's an objective fact that no matter who they vote for they will get a goyslave that ruins the world.
>>
>>739871507
Just don't buy then?
What's the problem, steamdecks are old at this point , if you wanted it you'd have bought it by now.
>>
>>739873175
>"Leave Gabe alone !!! ;_; "

No
>>
We're just not getting any more parts for the Deck 1s anymore, so they're increasing in price. It happens in a lot of industries like automotive. With tech being forcibly pushed forward by AI malarky, components are getting left behind far sooner than normal.
And as scummy as it sounds, this is also to push people to get a Deck 2 instead, which will be around the original price of the Deck 1.
>>
>Billion dollar company.
>Could very easily take the reduced profit from increased material costs.
>Just yanks the price up to above the market rate.

When you're in your 20s, you don't feel like playing at the table anymore, so Gabe created a device to play in bed before going to bed.
>>
>>739871507
They should've discontinued the Steam Deck and cancel the Steam Machine. It's over. Steam Machine was DOA from the start anyway.

Real talk seeing as you can (for now) get a Rog Ally X or Xbox Rog ally X whatever the fuck its name is for the same price.

Is there any point in getting the Deck instead of those two and just installing Bazzite on it?

Why? Windows is still better.

Not true at all. Maybe, and I say maybe, they lost a little on the jp version before the increase. But that's it.

Some reasons i can think of without any understanding myself:

>they operate on a completely different scale selling probably like 30 PS5 for one Steam Deck, meaning better prices and more room to absorb spikes in prices.
>no long-term supply arrangements and no old stock.
>if nothing changes any time soon, we'll see similar hikes for other devices as they have to ramp up production once stock sells out.
>the production run was presumably very small considering the units sold out very quickly.
>>
It's retard bling like apple products, you can't actually use it for anything, in fact the less useful it is the more they can bump up the price
>>
>>739875424
Yes, that is exactly how it should work. Valve could easily eat the loss and come out with even better pro consumer image, instead they choose to be greedy fucking kikes just like the rest of the industry.
>>
>>739875824
Why would they need a better public image? Valve cucks are ready to take Gaben's cock up all their holes no matter what he does.

>>

true. nobody except Japanese who spend 1/3 their day on the train needs a deck. it really confuses me why Americans want it. you can't play your deck while you drive your car. why would you play the deck on the sofa when you could be on your PC instead? A few cheap cables connects your PC to your TV and play on the couch instead of giving yourself bad eyes by staring at a tiny handheld screen (actually everyone's eyes are fucked anyway due to phone addiction desudesu)

Sony, M$ and Nintendo will eat the loss because they need to sell consoles to sell games, which is where the actual profit is (licensing). Steam does not need to sell Steam Decks to sell games, so they have no incentive to eat the cost
I think it's a safe bet that 90% of the people who would buy a Steam Deck already use Steam to buy games anyway. It won't bring in new customers, so it has to be profitable by itself

It'll work well for you anon. I don't do much modding on my deck games, but it does have steam workshop support. Linux modding I don't have any experience with. As the other anon said the hardware is a little dated but it's more than capable of playing older titles and emulating. It boots up quickly and it has a pretty good UI in steam OS. Though with prices right now what you'd be getting over other handhelds really would only be the control scheme, which is really nice having trackpads and gyro, but other handhelds are now a better value capability wise until they also go up in price.
>>
>>739885042

Touring musicians, long-haul truckers, and rich kids.
>>
>>739879364
This is sorta incorrect. There are people who prefer handhelds to desktop PCs or laptops. And absent a PC handheld, they may not use PC at all. That's the purpose of the steam deck and other PC based handhelds. They do bring new customers. The only reason you aren't completely wrong is other handheld PCs exist that aren't steam deck, and they are much better value than the steam deck now. But Steam Deck promotes Steam OS which is important for valve to reduce dependency on windows that is a looming threat to them.
>>
>>739885376
Possibly. Valve DID NOT want to raise prices but were stuck between not restocking and waiting, or raising prices.

As much as people complain, they were begging for new decks
>>
>>739885376
>>739885527
Machine isn't delayed and Deck couldn't be delayed till better prices showed up.
You want to keep running costs as low as possible, especially for storing goods because you also have a limited amount of warehouse space.
They're probably doing all they can to delay the manufacturing runs of Steam Machine, but their existing contracts, now with illegal price adjustments from gook RAM cartels and AMD, force a certain amount of throughput. They can't just sit on it lest that result in not being able to receive a shipment of Machines and Frames. Let me tell you, the cost for not being able to receive big shipments is brutal.

Instead of breaking even, which is what these new prices are - break-even prices, they should've just canceled the Steam Deck and had a fire sale to generate some good will for Steam Machine. Likely, they're running two-year contracts instead of a more standard one-year timescale in electronics. Smart usually, but we live in unusual circumstances they couldn't account for. Oh well. I got mine for $500, so I don't care.
>>
>>739871507
Nintendo won
>>
>>739885527
No that's a false dichotomy, they could subsidize it. That's really the root of all complaints on valve hardware. The other major hardware players all subsidize and its necessary to be competitive. Valve could also do this. They make 30% on most PC game sales. In fact I'd argue they might be in a better position to subsidize than industry giants. They don't benefit from economies of scale, but valve should have low R&D costs because their hardware team is tiny, and they don't need advertising because anything they put out is immediately spread by influencers and word of mouth. The only thing they couldn't subsidize is the steam machine because if you put out a cheap PC, it will be bought for work and not purchasing games. That's not likely to happen to a handheld or VR headset or controller.

>>739885819

didn't it sell out? people seem happy to buy it

that suggests if they sold it for cheap the scalpers would buy them all at the lower price and re-sell them for hundreds of dollars more. If valve puts the price up themselves they get the money themselves instead of giving it all away for free to the scalpers. That just seems sensible to me. Why should valve fund the activity of scalpers? Fuck those guys

Whos to say they weren't already subsidizing??? They upgraded to oleds with no price jump, that HAD to cost a lot. Eventually the cost is too much.

Agreed which is why no one should buy this and they should get a better handheld

Steam Deck was subsidized for its entire lifespan until now. Currently, it's likely barely breaking even or still incurring a slight loss given AMD spinning down custom chip capacity when it comes to fab allocation.

It was done to make the steambox more digestible. A 650 vs 1200 box would look horrible vs the now inflated 950.

Shut up about your fake conspiracy theory for a billion dollar company that refuses to disclose their financial information.

Which is exactly why companies need regulations.
If they didn’t have regulations, fire exits would be subscription based instead of being free to use.

>Valve quietly issues an update that requires you to sign into Steam to access desktop mode on Steam Deck (imagine having to have an internet connection just to access your desktop)
>Think this is a glitch, contact support, am informed it is an update and am instructed to roll back the update
>follow instructions
>Steam Deck is now bricked
>Valve tells me to master reset the device and wipe all the data

I'm so sick of this shit. Don't get a Deck. Dont get a Gabecube. The OS is dogshit and they are turning it into Windows 2.0
