What are our thoughts on it?
Why do you care? We're not friends. I don't even know your name, let alone your face.
unfinished dogshit
>>739873868It's a goddamn masterpiece. >>739873967This too. But the good outweighs the bad.
mostly finished dogshit
>>739873868PC version + mods = best way to experience it. Feel bad for console cucks.
failed potential and a product of hubris
It was probably about 4/5th finished. Definitely missing a final act. Kingdom of the Flies was supposed to be a DLC episode which would've opened the door for more DLC story content after that. They were definitely intending to go to New York at some point since the original draft of the story is literally about Diamond Dogs being at war with America. But truth be told the issue isn't even missing the final act, it's the fact that the game itself felt unpolished. The camo system was half assed and straight up doesn't even work right unless you use a PC mod. The spotlights barely mattered in part because the Fox Engine fucking crumbles if there's more than like 5 light sources on the screen at the same time. Konami should remaster MGSV, it would be far easier to do for them rather than making a whole new game from scratch
>>739873967Based retard
Also how can anyone play through Death Stranding and think MGSV was even remotely finished? DS ended with a 4 hour cutscene explaining everything because this is what Kojima does. Instead we get whatever bullshit we got in MGSV's chapter 2 kek
>>739874438Is there disagreement that the game is unfinished? Because it objectively is. The whole lost island bit they released on youtube just made me angry it didn't get realised. MGSV is the only game in the series that ends with a whimper.
>>739873868>What are our thoughts on it?Biggest waste of potential in the history of gaming.
>>739873868The 40 dollar prologue was better.
>>739874329>It was probably about 4/5th finished. Not even close to 4/5th, it's like they polished everything that would be in the trailers and that's it. It legitimately feels like it's 1/3 complete at most. The game is like 90% filler and casette tapes with the worst level design imaginable.
Gameplay was fun, story was unintelligible nonsense though I've heard thats why people blow smoke up Kojimbos ass
>>739873868Not very good. Downgraded. Giant humanoid robot instead of walking weapons platform is stupid. The animuposters were stupid. A lot of it was shit. It was a work in progress that could have been good and maybe should have been released like Ground Zeroes. A prelude to something bigger and better. The downgrades were very severe. And that they were for resolution makes them even more disgusting. There isn't much to see or do. The Emmerich stuff is degenerate. Jap shit. Hero that tortures or stands aside as it's done. Kill them all. There is some good there. It could be salvaged maybe. Worth playing to see some good stuff. Maybe not for it's unethical cowardice. What was done right in it and PW could be made into a good game.Though it's more of a parody than serious and up to standard. Though Japs don't deserve to ever depict that. They are not on it's side.
>>739873868Kojima is a hack who can't be trusted to manage projects on his own. It's very clear from MGS1 that he needs someone behind him to rein him in when he stars going off the rails. He got 2-3 delays and even got to release a glorified tech demo (Ground Zeros) to get further funding for this and he STILL delivered an unfinished mess that gives you Chapter 3 in a fucking story board. Why he still gets recognized as this visionary director is behind me, he's a good ideas guy but that's it.
>>739874681Here's to you, Nicola and Bart
>>739874930>gives you Chapter 3 in a fucking story board.Hmm, I wonder if there was any real life behind-the-scenes reason why this was the case?Oh well I guess we'll never know.
>>739873868>Headshot makes enemy wear helmetsAm I the only one that thought this was a pure dogshit game designIf you don't want to make the player OP then maybe reconsider the retarded slow-mo and x-ray vision???
Missing half a game
>right trigger doesn't work in Ground ZeroesFucking why
>>739875035Boohoo I bet big bad and meanie Konami were pressuring him to release his fucking game, its all their fault!Cry me a fucking river, if I give you a project with a dead line and you delay it 2 times, ask for additional funding and you STILL deliver an unfinished mess, you would be out in the street in any other business.
>>739873912>I don't even know your name, let alone your face.My name is Lind L. Tailor
>>739875276Konami made ALL the money they spent on the ENTIRE game back within 12 hours of the games release. Imagine how much they could have made if they let Kojimbles finish the game.
>>739873868Good game but it feels like it should be so much better than it ultimately is and that makes playing it frustrating even if there still is a lot to like.
>>739875420Could have been much worse. With more downgrades.
>>739873868The Paz side mission was the only good thing about it.
>>739873868After finishing both Death Stranding games I went back and finished the story of this game, still have yet to 100% though. Only gripe from me is that the game mostly takes place in Africa and Middle East, the two most shittiest and boring settings and you're surrounded by the worst kinds of people too.
>>739875465He should have released the game before he started developing it then, imagine how un-downgraded that version would have been, wowzers.
>>739873868Should have just used the tech to make a typical linear MGS, just Ground Zeroes on steroids.Japs cannot do open world games, they lack the resources and technical ability.
>>739873868Utter dosgshit, the people who enjoy it? Utter faggots who are responsible for the fact that i support introducing stoning as a punishment
>>739875532Yes. He shouldn't have touched and tried to copyright my thing. Fools like you look at his shit instead of militaria. Think you have it all. You're stupid. But would be without him. He did try, a little. Not much, and not enough. But some in the right direction. If you don't think the previews for V and 4 were better than the released result you're ever more stupid than you present yourself as.
>>739873868Gameplay wise it's just fun. I liked the multiplayer too.
>>739875420You have no proof that the game would have sold more if they spent more money and time to finish development and it would have probably resulted in a net loss compared to what they made releasing it like they did if we take into account developments costs.Konami is also a business with their hands in several pies, they can't afford to have a great amount of their money tied to just 1 project. Let's no forget they made over 2 billion in pachinko in 2016, you may not like this but this is what business is like.
>>739875527Just shoot them. Then they go away. Lol
>>739875808if every company made decisions like that they would be tainted like Konami became
>>739873868Utter dogshit. And no, I do not care about the ending as I am not invested in the writing of the MGS vinematic universe.
>>739873868Better than PW but worse than everything else
>>739873868If you like it you are genuinely a mindraped subhuman with no taste who says it's good either because you never played a good video game in your worthless life or because you feel a subconscious need to prostrate yourself before anything that's directed by hideo kojima
>>739873868Apparently it's a deeply misunderstood, underrated, and underappreciated masterpiece.
>>739873868I wish there were a difficulty selection before each mission.
>>739874597a lot of the new missions in the second part were rehashed ones that should have been side content
One of the better games in the series. I think it's more finished than some people want to acknowledge, but the entire second chapter being a retread was strange, and it's made more conspicuous by Africa being so undercooked compared to Afghanistan. I'd go so far as to say KojiPro should've just scrapped Africa and spent that time sprucing up Afghanistan. This is where they fell short of their ambitions more than Battle Gear being cut or Kingdom of the Flies. There are aspects of the story I like (mood, the general eeriness) and aspects I do not (what the fuck is happening with Psycho Mantis? Why is Baby Liquid even in the game? Huey in general). On the whole I like it, though.
>>739873868It wasn't the 10/10 missing link that completes the saga, being a cross-gen game meant they had to downgrade shit, replaying the same missions but now with a modifier like total stealth or extreme.
>>739876761There wasn't anything missing anyway.
>>739873868all the games are clunky garbage.
>>739873868it's peak stealth sandbox. it rewards experimentation, but most retards just do the same shit for 50 hours and think the game sucks because tranq gun is OP and they don't want to engage with other systems. god I hate mixmax hiperoptimization autists. story still sucks dick.
>>739876940the movement was much better in GZ and was fucked in PP for whatever reason. Probably Kojima jerking himself off with "well it's not the same guy so he doesn't move as well"
>>739873868It should not have been made for old gen back then. The gameplay was utterly wasted on 2 dull open world maps that felt like some prototypes. Konami should've went with the BR wave and made one based on MGSV gameplay with the addition of a new, more intuitive survival system.
>>739875527because the game is about colonialism and endless wars for oil. even the gameplay mechanics mimic/imply this, your'e basically farming soldiers and other resources to gain ever more power, like in those adictive numbers go up games.
>>739873868Ground Zeroes was decent but Phantom Pain was kind of poisoned with the open world stuff even if it had some decent moments, which were admittedly very few and far between. Still Kojima made up for his games lacking gameplay on this one. Primarily his mistakes on 4 because it wasn't completely infested with cutscenes. As a stealth game i give Ground Zeroes the higher marks because it feels like a more tightly designed experience and more akin to Splinter Cell Blacklist or something.
>>739873868This masterpiece deserves a remake
>>739873868A great game raped hard by jimba dogshit movie faggotry
Great gameplay dogshit storyAmazingly optimized
>>739881001I hate how strict GZ is with its stealth and you can't save scum at least during your 1st run to learn routes by making trial and error less annoying. this is OK in linear games on PC like dishonored, deus ex or splinter cell where you can press F5 to save scum and try different approach if you fuck the timing or make a bad call. this is not possible for an open-world setting for many reasons, not just technical ones (constantly loading whole map). the biggest being the flow of the game, trial and error aproach is ok in small linear spaces, in open world sandbox the design philosophy is different, there's still a fail state for being recless but it's meant to be much less strict and the accent it on utilizing tons of tools and chosing 1 out of multiple possible solutions, in most missions in V you can infiltrate from multiple directions and you have crazy amount of tools/weapons plus your buddies enable different strategical posibilities. mgs5 is about expression of your playstyle, it doesn't care about perfect ballance you can find in linear stealth games.
>>739881592bitch, there's barely any story there. did you even play past the prologue chapter?
>>739873868>Best mechanics in the series<Worst level design in the series<Worst story in the series<Wost bosses in the series<Least finished game in the series<SutherlandAnd despite that it's still a better game than 99% of other AAAslop.>>739874681>The 40 dollar prologue was better.Never knew the physical version was $40 Konami's Jewery knows no bounds. But yeah, GZ felt like a demo for MGS5, PP felt like a spin-off game.
>>739880146>even the gameplay mechanics mimic/imply thisIt was more so because building a private army was what BB does. He the mechanics were carried over from Peace Walker.
Venom>>>>>gay boss
>>739881681Camp Omega isn't that big? it's fine for trial and error sort of stuff minus the lack of saves which is kind of a thing I've gotten used to for my own ghost run stipulations. Which i should probably start recording at some point. But I've played the Hitman games on professional mode so i suppose I'm used to restarting the levels for my SA runs by now. I'm fine with infiltrating in multiple directions so long as the inner map has more tightly designed sections that reflect map based. If that's not possible then open world is bringing the quality down. What Kojima should have done to improve on GZ was using those kind of compounds but then create verticality in some instances or even use underground sections and extra buildings to infiltrate within them with all sorts of more complex sneaking based challenges. Camp Omega was actually just a great template he could have used for designing interesting bases. Instead in Phantom Pain most of them were emptyish or felt kind of copy pasted. Central base in Afghanistan was just a huge let down because once you infiltrated just the basic perimeters they lacked interesting layouts.
>>739873868One of the best games I've played, imagine if it was actually finished
MGSV would've been a 10/10 amazing game if the entire game were a series of missions in big sandboxes like the Ground Zeroes mission.
>>739873868Could have been one of the greatest games of the decade if they actually finished it
>>739873868I like it.
I think it was great on a gameplay level but the story seemed lacking. I understand where Kojimbo was coming from but I feel like he could've given his magnum opus a proper send-off, and killed any hopes that Konami had of continuing the series in a meaningful way by doing so.
>>739873912My name is not important. What is important is what I'm going to do...
>>739881973PW dealt with nuclear proliferation and the concept of nuclear deterrence (peace through nukes). part of the story was also about Boss's legacy, but this is the underlying theme of the whole series. building the base in PW had different story implications and was more connected to the character of Big Boss. V is a more experimental, cryptic, postmodern, artistic game with visual metaphors. it's about what is being implied by kojima, references to stuff like moby dick and not what is directly explicitly presented. you must focus on what is not there, the phantom pain. some people like v for it, for being a self-contained universe that uses mgs lore and setting to tell its own thing, but I personally do not. I expected and would prefer more traditional storytelling present in mgs3. I expect it to be the mission link, game about Big Boss becoming villain, sprinkled with some fanservice moments like the appearance of gray fox and solid snake. I know that part of timeline is covered with SNES game but I barely consider that game a canon, it's to simple in its presentation for me to take it seriously.
>>739882483If I remember correctly every mission in the game puts you in an area you can't leave, it's a pretty artificial barrier because they just plop down invisible walls on the open world but it's there. I think what this game needed the most was more interior locations
>>739873868gaming TECHNOLOGY and gameplay innovation peaked with MGSV.Unironically.
>>739882357I get what you're saying. did you like OKB zero at least?
It would be so much better if they just copied the mission structure of PW PP has so much useless busy work bloat
>>739883106Yes i did like OKB Zero. One of the few moments of the game i enjoyed because it felt closer to what Ground Zeroes was.
>>739881890>>Best mechanics in the seriesLike what? enemies not reacting to body part damage? enemies unable to cover or revive fallen allies? Calibers not mattering, no penetration?Crouch walking?>>739883416>driving straight through is just like ground zeroes. There is no MGSV, it's all mass hysteria or a group hallucination
>>739883495It feels like there was some slight effort to make a more sneaking based challenge. I'm not calling it Ground Zeroes by a long stretch.
>>739873868The last game I bought at day one, I loved the gameplay, I still remember the threads here in /v/
>>739873868Biggest disappointment of my gaming life. Could have been the best game ever made. All the pieces were there. It just needed to be Ground Zeroes level quality but 10x longer. Instead Kojimbo sharted out an unfinished tech demo where 90% of the world looks procedurally generated.
>>739883495>Best mechanicsthe biggest offense for most hardcore speedrunners is the lack of a hard mode like european extreme and big boss rank. the stuff you mentioned would fit nicely into such a mode, including weapon degradation, limited inventory, a hunger/stamina meter, no supply drops, and extremely punishing enemy AI. but I would rather prefer more boss fights, the stuff that's there, like man on fire is just not very memorable or fun.
>>739884138>like european extremeMainly an offense to hardcore stealth players who actually are good enough to perform no mistakes ghost runs like myself. Well after practicing of course. It's not necessarily a speed runner thing but an actual thing i do in the games that i play because I'm a masochist for that stuff i guess.
>>739873868Is the best videogame ever, it is pure and absolute gameplay at its best.
>>739873868Insanely good
>>739873868It's just Peace Walker: Big Bro Edition
>>739873868I like to kidnap a sexy girl and then play as her in missions and crawl around in the dirt watching my ass wiggle around then I go to an enemy base and imagine me being the one suffocated by her and jerk off while she takes damage and moans.
I hated it and found it extremely boring and tedious and the story was terrible. I loved the older MGS games.
>>739884539kojima and konami always cared about that extremely small niche part of the player base who chased big boss rank. not sure if it was because older games were linear, so it made sense to add extreme difficulties to offer people more value for fully priced game heavy on story cutscenes. mgs even had an integral version that was focused on gameplay only, and mgs2 also got VR side mission mode. so what changed with 5, was this mode excluded because game already was huge and had hundred hours of gameplay to get to 100%, was is a budget thing or they just didn't managed to do it in time? it's a mystery. both death stranding games had difficutly options.
I hated this game so much that it actually made me lose interest in playing video games in general.
>>739885234It's only gotten worse since 2015 too.
>>739873868One of my TOP 5 favourite games of all time with Metal Gear Solid.
