I just hope I haven't lost it completely, but everyday I keep on losing hopeIf I can be a little presumptuous here, and I swear I'm not trying to be glib - touch a little grass. Get more sunlight, more fresh air, connect with someone. Modern life is filled with pitfalls that erode and destroy brain chemistry, and leave you isolated and in a dopamine well. Evolutionarily, we've barely left the plains and now we're in a hyper-advanced society that is not built to nourish the mind or the "soul". We need connection, tangible, material effort-reward cycles, and need to step away from the opiate brainkiller of stuff like tiktok, endless scrolling, and flashing lights. Not that you can't have all those, but they should be in moderation. Much easier said than done of course, but it's never too late to cast off the shell and grow, like a hermit crab. I love you and I wish you success on your journey, whatever it looks like. Anyway, I know how obnoxious advice is when you're down, so apologies if I sound like a real niggerfaggot. Took me the better part of a decade to get out of my version of that pit."You get born, and you nurse on lies, and you get weaned on lies, and you learn fancier lies in school. You live all your life on lies, and then maybe when you're ready to die, it comes to you — that there's nothing, nothing but yourself and what you could have done. Only you ain't done it, because the lies told you there was something else. Then you know you could of had the world, because you're the only one that knows the secret; only then it's too late. You're too old."

I've been creating structure in my life, studying some stuff and reasearching all kinds of paths for about a year and I'm still unsure about what to do. That's not even mentioning the weird mix of inferiority complex and cptsd I carry around with me 24/7. I wish I was a little bit younger, then I would just grind for a couple years and get into med school. I don't have the time or the resources for that nowadays, realistically I would only graduate and start making money on my late thirties if I went for it. I've been thinking about looking for freelance 3d modelling jobs online but I don't know if that's just a pipe dream or a viable short term path. And yes, I know that the only way to find out is by trying it.I'm just so tired of feeling stuck and insuficient, like life is bleak and I am as much of a fuck up as everyone always said I was. Not trying to brag, just trying to say at your age I was drinking myself to death and debating declaring bankruptcy to get out of my student loans, with a double digit balance in my bank account at the end of the month. It is not even remotely too late to bring about the life you want to realize. You can talk more about how you went from where you were to where you are now too, if you want.
>>739897607I was really fortunate in that she was a work colleague - I too struggled a lot with socializing and broadening my social circles. While they didn't result in finding my eventual wife, I did have some success joining hobby groups and volunteering - the humane society, eco projects, astronomy clubs, photography clubs, birdwatching groups, all were pretty good ways to branch out socially a wee bit. I think the best mindset is to go looking to interact with people; friends and romance are something that organically grows from there.MUCH harder if you live in a more rural area. I never had any luck there unfortunately. I found there weren't many groups to join, and existing social circles were SO insular. In cities, people migrate in and out so often that social circles tended to be a lot more fluid and allowed for fairly easy integration.A friend of mine moved to another city after a breakup recently, and he's (I don't mean this unkindly) relatively below average and a bit lanky looking, and he's actually had some pretty reasonable success with dating apps - I think he's using bumble. Just coming across as a normal person who is kind and a little funny and just wants to do people stuff can be very appealing to a subset of the population who really don't resonate with modern dating, despite paradoxically being on apps. I was always too afraid to use them in all honesty, I think I was worried I would never get a response and end up thinking I was the biggest chud loser alive.Genuinely rooting for you friend :) hitting that 30s wall of "real" adulthood is fucking intimidating, it's when I started to really compare myself with my peers, and found it very stressful
>>739898278This one might be a two parter:I think that you hit it on the head - it just takes doing the work. When I look at my colleagues, I don't think any of them are particularly smart or personable above the average person; they're just more willing to do the scary stuff. Sending in the applications, not being afraid of rejection, accepting that there is no actual consequence to taking a chance beyond not getting the thing. That was my biggest change in thinking - I used to be absolutely paralyzed by my fear that being out of my comfort zone was somehow dangerous or intrinsically bad. I spent so much energy trying to avoid discomfort. The other thing was, and this feels so simplistic that it almost feels silly to type out, was actually feeding my body and mind. I ate like shit, slept like shit, didn't move my body, and spent all day playing videogames, and I wondered why I was stagnating and depressed. I'm not a gym guy, never will be, but I go for a walk every morning and every afternoon, do a little cardio, and try to eat relatively healthy. Still have junk food now and then but it's a treat rather than the foundation of my diet lol.1/2

>>7398998612/2I also hate to be this guy, but the other thing that blew me out of my rut was a big dose of mushrooms. The neuroplastic analogy I like to make is that your brain is like a ski slope - you ski down it, and you make a path as you go. The next time you go down it, it's easier for your skis to follow the grooves you made on your last run. Do it over and over, and eventually you'll find it very difficult to maneuver out of the path you've worn into the hillside. But a heavy dose of mushrooms is like a fresh snowfall neuroplastically speaking, and it allows you to form new trails in the snow. If you do it with intention, you can choose where those new trails form before you start making the old ones all over again. YMMV but it flipped a switch in my brain that instantly killed my desire to drink, my desire to smoke weed, and opened me up to the possibility of improvement. Horrible, overwhelming 5 hour experience, but it really puts a fresh coat of paint on the synapses. For actual career steps, it was just a lot of swallowing shit and working hard lol. My career path was basically kiosk phone rep > store phone rep > BDR > CSM > AM > SAM > Sr. Strategic Partnerships (where I am now), and the first half of that progression was absolute ass. Lots of stress, lots of obnoxious people. Hair went grey. But very doable. Almost everyone I know at my level just consistently applied, had tons of interviews over the years that went nowhere until they got lucky and got their foot in the door. Once you're in, it's SO much easier. Just have to not suck and you're basically set. Same is true of almost any career path imo - the first step is the really tough one.Now I'm sickeningly, annoyingly grateful for every moment I'm alive.
