true, mario really was slidey garbage.

Funnily, Tomb Raider formed the blueprint of the movement in the 3D TES games, but they took away the ledge-grabbing after Redguard.

I know, it's crazy how tomb raider has much better level design and gameplay
>>

I'm getting filtered by the combat in Tomb Raider, I find all the platforming and exploring fun but whenever I get to an enemy I just take out my strongest weapon and hold shoot while doing slow retarded backhops hoping the lion, monkey or mummy doesn't reach me and take away 90% of my health (while Lara puts her hands arms up because the enemy is too close for her to aim at and accepts her death). I haven't ever had a single moment where I truly felt like I was fighting something instead of just cheesing it by standing on a platform they can't reach or hoping and praying when that's not an option.
Tell me I'm missing something
>>
>>739877284
Nah it just kind of sucks and winning back then required cheese strategies

Here's my challenge to Nintendo. In Super Mario 65 add a story in which Mario gets testicular cancer. Imagine a vulnerable Mario persisting in his worldly adventures in spite of his illness. It needs some fleshing out (No pun intended) but we think the gaming world would be SHOCKED!

>hitscan gunners
Run behind them or if they're too far away, block line of sight until they run closer.
>anything melee
Just find higher ground or flip around them (flip rolls are your friend)
>TR1 centaurs
Side flip while shooting and you'll dodge their projectiles easily
>those fast TR1 mummies/atlantean monsters that charge at you or shoot bullets at you from a distance
Good luck lol. There's some glitch where they don't attack when you backstep but you're usually still fucked at close range.

The amount of optimizations they had to do to get this game running on the PS1 will never be replicated again, not because technology is "better" but because devs today are lazy bastards who have zero love for the craft.

how did they perfect 3D on the first try?
>>
>>739880560
Trash 1 was literally breaking sonys own rules for other devs to overwork the console so hard that playing this furry shovelware is literally destroying your console.
>>
>>739880564
this does help. I do use backflips too but have never used the mid air turn around intentionally for combat, that's definitely something I need to implement. Though even in this webm It seems it's kinda inevitable for the enemies to catch up with you sometimes and get a few hits in but the game gives you plenty of medkits so it's not really a big problem.

Have you tried jumping sideways in a circle instead of just backward?
TR1 combat is just circle strafing
