>souls combat is so peak!!!!
DS2 is the only good souls game because roll spamming was a stat investment, otherwise you had to learn how to strafe or parry
>>739887540it's a magical pickaxe that homes toward your target.
>>739887540Parrying sucks dick in DaS2 and enemies generally have crazy tracking compared to other games. It was still roll slop, it was just roll slop where the i-frames don't match the animation and as such you get clipped by random bullshit until you level up your adp to the point where your i-frames cover the awkward parts of your rolling animation. Or I guess you just insist on playing with an unintuitive set of i-frames on your roll and pretend it isn't an issue because you want to stroke your own ego over "liking" a game that others are just too dumb to understand or something.Ironically ERSotE fits what you just described better, rolling is pretty bad so you're forced to engage with other defensive measures if you don't want to grind out insanely tight dodge windows, but people bitched about that game being overtuned in response.
It's fun. Simple as.
>>739887540>>739888015Oh and DaS1 did it better too, medium rolling does actually feel kind of shit compared to light roll and it creates a dynamic where you're actually incentivized to swap armor pieces depending on if you want to trivialize a fight via better rolling or poise cheese. DaS2 loses that because it made armor and poise fucking shit, for as much hate as it gets on the armor front DaS3 at least gives you a sizable defense penalty for trying to go naked, DaS2 practically wants you to thanks to the best ring in the game requiring you to keep your Vit low (unintuitively).
>>739888015Anon ... rolling doesn't make you invincible IRL. There is no such thing as matching i-frames to the animation, because the concept is ridiculous anyway.
>>739887295I showed my friend how to mod SkyrimHe immediately installed mods to "fix the easy combat" by making the enemies spam random slow bullshit, and making himself able to rollslop for iframeskek
>>739889057Nice selfie. And obviously when I refer to matching the animation I mean taking into account gameplay considerations. If you don't level your adp, your i-frames end while your character is still sprawled out, meaning in your attempt to dodge an attack you've just made your collision massive for a few frames. You know those janky ass videos of people trying to dodge through The Pursuer's command grab only to seemingly be teleported onto his sword? That's because the very i-frame jank I am describing. I mean the fix is easy, just leave the legs intangible during parts of the roll where the player might end up being unreasonably clipped, but that wouldn't be "realistic" enough for players like you I guess.
>>739889106I mean if someone forced me to play a shitty game I'd also probably just pile random shit on it in an attempt to make it suck less.
>>739889473Zoomer jumps in with retarded victim complex and contrarianism, sasuga
>>739889394>Nice selfie.thank you, am I good-looking?>The Pursuer's command grab only to seemingly be teleported onto his sword? That's because the very i-frame jank I am describing. The i-frames are fine with decent ADP. The problem in this specific case are not the i-frames, but the animation not matching what is happening. It's not dynamic enough, so it has to teleport you to make it work.
>>739889570>The problem in this specific case are not the i-frames, but the animation not matching what is happeningI mean you're working backwards but yes, the issue is that there's a misalignment between i-frames and animation which causes the animation to not do the thing you want a dodge to do.>It's not dynamic enoughThey couldn't even be arsed to make different animations that actually worked with the variable roll length, they sure as hell didn't have the manpower to make sure the animation also fit the various agility levels. Again, simple fix would have been the easiest and most elegant solution. just make the legs intangible, short hands like that are just good game design.>>739889561I'm old enough to have played arena on release but whatever zoom zoom.
>>739889106Skyrim combat is absolute dogshit and probably the worst combat I've ever seen, to be fair. Not saying rollslop mods are the solution though
I agree the roll is stupid. It should be a side step like Sekiro or Bloodborne. You should only roll if you're already sprinting.
>>739889057>rolling doesn't make you invincible IRLamigo, we are not fighting giant dragons with huge two-handed swords IRL either
>>739890374Yeah, but it would make sense being able to damage giant dragons with big magical swords. In fact we have myths about that sort of thing. And I do actually believe that back in time immemorial, there were larger and dangerous versions of certain animals running around, caused by a secret metabolic process, which is induced in certain animal species in abnormal stress conditions. Like there are certain tadpoles, who can turn into giant white cannibalistic tadpoles, who can grow even larger than frogs, who literally eat everything inside an overpopulated pond, if the competition for resources is too much. But no matter what, myth or real world, It wouldn't make sense to ignore the damage a giant sword thrust in your direction would cause, because "you rolled into it".
>>739887295really is a sad state of videogames when the same threads are being made over and over again even though they haven't been relevant for like 3+ years
