Is this game a case of actual gamers liking the game for what it is while critics and rockstar shills shit on it for reasons?
>>
>>739887730
Nobody sane would defend shitty mission structure from rockstar
>>
That is kinda cool that the game lets you cheat in that part
>>
>>739887730
this is why rockstar games are better
007 is afraid of presenting you with failure. the game plays itself, and even doing the objectives wrong will still let you proceed
>>
>>739887730
>how can I make this about Rockstar?

Honestly, I don't understand how modern development works, like if you don't have complex physics in the game - don't put crap on the track, or make it destroyable like in fucking driver 2
>>
>>739887730
This screencap is hilarious considering just how linear First Light is overall
>>
>>739889857
Considering the Hitman games, this looks more like they just forgot the collision hitbox.

rule #1 of spycraft: do the unexpected.
>>
>>739887950
It's good when the game don't punish you for inventive way to play, rockstar never understood that, it's always no fun allowed mission
>>
>>739889857
>games cost a billion more dollars to make
>look worse
>run worse
>worse gameplay
That will be $80 plus tip.

Imagine expecting non-linear mission design in a sandbox game. Imagine expecting creative ways to solve problems in a supposed "world simulation" game.
You are asking too much from Rockstar, champ.

...But enough about GTA 4.
>>
>>739888602
>can't even saddle the right horse
yeah no wonder devs become so restrictive in allowing player agency when the average player can't follow basic instructions without fucking it up

People rightfully criticize Naughty Dog but Rockstar also makes movie games, they're more interactive but the director still gets mad at you when you go off script.
>>
>>739892296
what if I told you games should not be about following specific orders from devs but instead about having fun
>>
>>739892702
limitations are what make games fun
>>
I'm ok with missions being railroady and the open world having immense freedom
>>
>>739892702
their games have both a sanbox to just do whatever you want and more linear moments where you can follow the story (not specific orders)
both can be fun, tha'ts like having the cake and eating it too

IO spent 10+ years working on the Hitman trilogy, which is the complete anti-thesis of modern Rockstar mission design due to how open ended it is. It makes sense that even in a more linear game like 007, they’d give you more wiggle room for player freedom.

Besides, the reason Rockstar has garbage mission design that’s only gotten more restrictive with each game is because people let them get away with it for years and are only just now starting to call them out on it.

>>739889857
Considering the cars in Hitman were static objects, I’m not surprised the driving in First Light is mediocre.

>It makes sense that even in a more linear game like 007, they’d give you more wiggle room for player freedom.

There's barely any freedom. You'd know if you had beaten the game.
>>
>>739892992
No one is claiming the game isn’t linear, but it has more freedom of approach than the average RDR2 or GTAV mission because there are a number of parts where there are multiple ways to do things.

The whole point OP’s pic is making is that it’s embarrassing that a linear, story driven game has more freedom of approach in its missions than a sandbox game from the biggest western game dev in the world.
>>
>>739893383
Still more than what RDR2 offers. The bar is genuinely that low. Plus, it’s also more forgivable that a Bond game is a bit more linear and cinematic, because IO has proven they can do open ended sandboxes with Hitman, which means Bond is linear by design rather than them not knowing any better.
>>
>>739893667
RDR2 has free roam. that's where the sandbox part of rockstar games are
rockstar missions are also linear by design, because they're typically cinematic set pieces
>>
>>739893814
Rockstar games never used to have linear missions though. In GTA 3 and VC, all that mattered was that you completed the objective. Even GTA SA and IV had some missions like that mixed in with their more setpiece heavy ones. RDR2 took it to a point beyond parody where the game will mission fail you for using the wrong weapon.

rockshit could do a non-strict mission just fine, but won't bother to do so. gtav, the big score heist. in prep to it player could leave any fucking car for later escape in any point of a fucking huuuge area on the map. Position of the car gets saved, and later on during the heist player need to reach that exact spot and get away. Both car choice and position choice is on player, it's not a strict tiny circle in very specific predetermined place, giving player some gameplay agency in gta and such is possible, fact. but rockshit being rockshit most of the time.

Opening up Twitch and seeing every loud obnoxious meme streamer play it with the #ad in the title was the huge red flag for me.
I'd rather wait for a couple of years until it's like $20 on sale or just pirate it.
>>
>>739887730
It's a case of oikophobic AAA slop getting endless praise for doing a couple interesting technical things, which they should be doing all the time anyways. Meanwhile the artistic and narrative quality of the game is the worst it's ever been.

That is only really true in GTA V where they decided that everything needs to be overly scripted.
>>
>Branching narratives and alternative objectives resulting from fail states?
>Sorry, we're too busy with shrinking horse testicle mechanics to do anything like that.
>Now enjoy your game over for killing that guy too early during the chase sequence, even though the mission was to kill him anyway. We worked hard on those set pieces so you're going to enjoy them.
