Hunger introduces a drive to engage with the building mechanics. Make a farm or you die > what comes to mind when you think of a farm > a nice little house with a garden > start building it > need some resource to make it look better > go out and find it. It adds to the gameplay in my opinion and I think potions act as a nice mid game extension of the food system which came in the next update. Endermen were so sick for me as a kid who loved creepypastas and whatnot, and they still remain the monster with the most character. Generated structures like villages and strongholds I LOVED because it felt like you were exploring an actual world with things happening instead of just an empty landscape. Still, villages and villagers are some of my favorite things in this game because I can go out and come across a settlement in a cool looking area and go inspect the houses and get some loot and lift their whole civilization up and protect them. So much of minecraft's identity is built on top of the foundations 1.8 set up.

Except unlike modded minecraft you can't just create a second inventory. Bundles are probably the dumbest possible solution they could've come up with for this. I only play modded and have never seen anyone use them because once you have literally any other option everyone forgets they exist
