BN focuses a bit more on being tactical while SF focuses on speed/reaction but both generally have a lot of the same elements otherwise. Personally I find that the games stay fun even in generic enemy battles, which is kind of my issue with normal RPGs where the gameplay gets tiresome after a while and you're just waiting for boss fights (but the boss fights are still the highlights of both games).

Does the encounter rate adjustment actually do anything if you set it to low? I did that in SF2 and I can barely tell if anything is changing sometimes. Even on normal the game's encounter rate is wonkier than I remember it being. Sometimes I'm being swarmed with encounters and other times it feels like 1 and 3. I remember 2 being awful about it in the original games but on my replay in the collection it's only always awful in the post game with the alternate future weirdly enough.

I remember SF2 being bad about it but turning them off outright when I just want to move from point A to B helps a ton. Still wish I could've just set the rate to be whatever it is in the other two games.
