I just finished SH2. Throughout the game I couldn't help but notice how lonely James Sunderland is.

The game starts off by showing him having arrived by car alone, and walks all by himself into the town, and through apartment buildings, and despite who you meet, he keeps walking by himself.

As a woman, I felt Maria's energy when she tries to let herself in but is met by his reluctance. It really does show the problem with males going through a bit of a loneliness epidemic, and the lengths at which women go to try and make them open up. But it's also a great exemplification of how James consistently refuses to open up, and at the end we see the full letter from his wife, including the 70% of the letter he omitted for the rest of the game. This shows all the ways in which he is denying anyone to get close to him.

I think Silent Hill 2 is a pretty startling demonstration of the issues of male mental health, and that's a big reason why it's resonated with so many gamers.

I'm so, so, sorry in advance for what is about to I happen. Trolls are going to come into the thread and they will be saying some very hurtful things about you. They will call you some very hurtful names. But none of those things are true. How could they possibly know? How could they possibly know how beautiful you really are? How sweet and compassionate you are? I'm so sorry about them, please do not let them hurt you.

>mfw thinking about you hurting

I just want to see you shine and flourish. You are so precious to me. I want to write poetry and sing songs about my love and adoration for you and all of your perfections. My name is Brian, by the way. I know that you're tired of all the and jerks. I know how you feel baby doll. I know. I am different. I am the nicest guy you will ever meet, and if anything I'll be the one in the kitchen. I live in London. Please be in London.

Do fem presenting people really dump bodies and an heroes in company? I mean, I've seen japs do it but I thought it was a jap thing

Being alone and not paid attention to really is a woman’s greatest fear, huh. James was just staying in his lane and thriving and you can’t fathom how a man can do that alone.
>>
>>739896230
>As a woman, I felt Maria's energy when she tries to let herself in but is met by his reluctance
I hope you realize you're identifying with the literal manifestation of the whore side of his madonna whore complex that is trying to seduce him. Yeah, no shit he's going to resist since the whole story is him feeling guilty about being attracted to women like her and what that made him do.
>>
>>739898118
Yes, I do live close to London, that is true... what's that about anyway..?
>>739897997
That comment wasn't mine, and I didn't say it.
>>739897745
I... guess? But I would make the point that for example Heather in the third game (which was my first SH game lol) is kinda not lonely, since she calls her dad and clearly has a home to come to. The thing with that game is just that she's a girl who experiences the anxiety of constantly being followed by suspicious types. If you think about it, the first part of that game is entirely about being a girl who goes to the supermarket, has to walk uncanny alleys and take the metro home, and also make it home safely. I think Team Silent did a great job depicting that lived experience that we feel almost every day after dark.

OP is not trans, just engage with what she wrote ffs

This is such a bizarre thing to do, you sound honest and are probably very young and don't know how this place works if you're not larping so I will engage.
Most protagonists are the loner stoic hero type in both movies and video games because that's what men like, you have Solid Snake, Max Payne, James Bond, Arthur Morgan, the list goes on. To this day I don't understand why the loneliness epidemic is been treated as a purely male issue when it's obviously happening to everyone because of technology and our current society, but I'm guessing it's a response of a decade of focusing on female issues and everyone pretends all women are just going around fucking randoms.
>>739898549
>I think Team Silent did a great job depicting that lived experience that we feel almost every day after dark
I think women should stop being proud of being weak and do something about it like carrying a gun. A twink sees the world the same way you do, as a threat.
>>
>>739899081
>A twink sees the world the same way you do, as a threat.
OK. Very cool. But manosphere dudes clearly don't, and they're the ones walking after women, which is basically what the entire mall segment and train-station part of SH3 represented imo
>>
>>739899081
>I don't understand why the loneliness epidemic is been treated as a purely male issue when it's obviously happening to everyone because of technology and our current society
I think its because men have a harder time forging and maintaining friendships than women do

Kill or be killed, sounds like those manosphere dudebros have a better mindset than you.

SH4 did the same thing with a guy, women need to stop thinking everything is about rape.

Haven't played 4 yet, but Henry Townsend is walking around with, and meeting other people constantly during the gameplay. It even has escort mechanics.
Also, the entire premise of that is like "you're an incel" and imo the lock on his door represents something he set up himself, that he has the rational power to remove, but he's just not gonna do it, because he thinks he will explode if his neighbour talks to him. It's the only game in the series I find outright repulsive. I've yet to play the first game as well, but... boomer graphics. Meh.

Masterful troll, or a literal delusional zoomer graphics whore.

Every single thing you said is objectively plain wrong. And unless you want to KYS, you should go and play SH1. It's the best game in the entire franchise, and one of the greatest video games of all time.

You know, you can do your 3 hour long videogame essay and post it on youtube, without making a thread here, OP.

Pretty sure James murdered his wife and he was just escaping his guilt by fabricating a letter from Mary forgiving him. He's mentally unstable.
>>
>>739898549
What did you think about the scariest thing for a girl in Silent Hill 3 being a mirror?
>>
I loved SH3 and it's precisely because Heather is not a scared little bitch afraid to take the subway like the gamer girls who identify as her. She goes to Silent Hill willingly to avenge her dad and that is something no woman would ever do for anyone.
>>
>>739896978
Based max.
>kills his wife murderers
>doesn't drown his wife like some fag
>>
>>739901027
Not being scared doesn't mean you don't have to be constantly on watch and protect herself. That section was more emotional than "scary" to me. When she finds her father in the chair I actually cried, not because I felt so strongly about the dad character dying, but because you've gone through so much, and at the first point of true safety, it's immediately taken away from Heather, and she has to find safety in confronting the source of all her pursuers. And then it became very empowering, yeah, but the first part of the game made me feel a lot for Heather as a person.
>>
Reminder that Bloopoopers and Jewnami's shills are trying their best to undermine Team-Silent's classics, just so that their shitty DE-makes would do "better".
>>
>>739901591
No matter how many remakes or video essays injecting woke twists into the original 4 games we get, we can still enjoy them forever and I thank God for that.

Now that you mention Bloober, i wonder what would have been worse the remake we got or the one Tom Hulett wanted to make.

retard
>>
>>739899081
The male loneliness epidemic specifically exists because men have been trained to be insular and not emotive, and so end up emotionally retarded and unable to cope with negative feelings.
Ironically, a few of the characters you mention do have arcs relating to that (most significantly Snake and James obviously).
>>
>>739905483
So it has always been this way? Wouldn't it be way worse before, why would it be an epidemic now?
>>
>>739905483
I think you're completely mistaken on your analysis as males were not as lonely before when gender roles were even more predominant.
>men listen to women
>things go to shit for them
>"it's actually because you haven't been listening hard enough"
>>
>>739901353
>Not being scared doesn't mean you don't have to be constantly on watch and protect herself
Correct, that's what men do. When women go out with their boyfriends and feel completely relaxed, the boyfriend is meanwhile looking around constantly for possible danger.
>>
>>739905483
I don't know you but you're doing something I used to do a lot, you draw conclusions from gut feelings and treat them as absolute facts, then present them to others like this. You read somewhere that men suppress emotions more than women, and then used it to explain a social phenomenon that you don't even know if it's related or not, it just "feels" right. What actually worked for me is to present my idea (or what I've concluded) to the AI to verify it with facts, it's usually more complicated and what you think is the cause doesn't even contribute even like 5% to the issue.
The problem is also that a lot of people don't really care about the cause of an issue, they just want to sell the solution, in your case you're probably a woman trying to sell feminism to men so you're very likely to ignore this post.

In my experience it's the socially retarded white guys that are the worst.

He had Mary in the car with him, so my question is what was his plan initially?

My guess is that he was initially planning on coming to Silent Hill to drive his car into Toluca Lake like the “In Water” ending but then the town fucked with his head and sent him into the fog layer when he was looking in the mirror at the rest stop, clearly having some kind of disassociative episode.
>>

>He had Mary in the car with him, so my question is what was his plan initially?
WTF?? Is this true? I might like the game less haha. Ew, that's low-key sickening to me.
>>
Anyone played that enhanced edition that the one anon often posts in these threads? I'm wondering if I should try it. I have played the PS2 version countless times on real hardware and emulator. I could use a new way to play the game. I'd even play the Xbox version but sadly I do not have a working Xbox Original anymore.
>>
Enhanced version you just download the PC port off of Internet Archive, and install the enhanced patch. it works great.

In Water (as well as many parts of the game being designed around In Water) confirms this notion. James, in a mania from having killed Mary, put her in the car and drove to their "special place" (Toluca Lake) to be with her in death. At some point between the drive and the bathroom pitstop, he fell into a deep delusion about what had truly happened, a delusion reinforced by the town's powers, and set off on his journey to "find Mary."
It's worth noting that no singular ending is fully canonical though, so there is still some room for interpretation. But this is the general gist of it.
>>739910384
Troll post aside, yes. Mary's corpse is in the car. There's a mountain of evidence that points toward this, both in and out of the game.
>>739910790
The Enhanced Edition mod on PC? Yeah, it's great. Try it out. Their development update videos are also super interesting to watch.
>>
>>739896230
>alone in the car
Except his wife, who was dead, who he just killed, like a day or so from hauling her corpse from the hospital, into the car, to silent hill
>>
>>739910041
In sh2 since cult shit is a non-factor, think of the town being his punishment. Water/good ending are the two paths from his punishment.

Eddie and angela are in the same, Laura is innocent so its just an empty town, Maria is a tulpa
