WTF?
Yikes
a $300 price increase is insane
>>739896609Yeah Nintendo looks totally sane here.I think they have much more favorable contracts due to volume (switch & switch 2 have absolutely blown the fuck out of PC handheld sales)But it seems Valve is literally paying consumer MSRP on memory and these increases are being passed it entirely onto the consumer
>>739896360you're paying for the number of games you can play seems fair to me
>>739896360but the deck has cheaper games, free online and cloud saves, emulation, piracy, can use more than 2 machines for games or even make a comfy group and share amongst friends.
>Nintendo in 2026 is making $450 look like buying a 3DS in 2012I have diverged into the wrong timeline.
>>739896360Nintendo soon make that 300 by accessory's and paywalls for the console. Hell your console manuel is 10 bucks but i aint defending that 'eck price.
>>739896852But does the Deck have Nintendo games?
Yhe steam deck is a portable computer capable of running anything you can on PC. Switch is a shitty iPad with no games. Hope that helps.
>>739896851pcbros dont even know there are other PC handhelds
>>739896851>>739896852>>739897125the deck is now overpriced even within its own market, better spec PC handhelds exist
Steamkeks will be like>BUH BUH BUH PC HAS MORE GAMESWith a Steam library of 500 games and every emulator setup with full library rom packs and have played maybe 5 of them. Literal digital hoarders, couldn't be further from an actual video game enthusiast. Gabe sure knew how to pick a bunch of cattle to consume his digital rentals to fund his yachts and OpenAI investment.
>>739896360You don't understand: Valve needs to make 84 billion dollars in profit each year instead of 83.9 billion. Gabe needs his 26th yacht
valve apologists are the most pathetic cucks on the planet
>>739896609It shows that Nintendo and others decided to eat some of the losses while Valve refused to.
>>739898550the PS5 Is literally near the same price, why is sony not acking themselves here?
>>739896609>please understand goy, I am just a humble billionaire supermegaultrayacht fleet collector
>>739897080Yes, unlike the shitch poo.
>>739898930here's the correct meme anon, you're welcome
>>739898930the steam deck is the weakest out of all these and still the most expensiveat least the ps5 pro is the most powerful out of all these and has a 2tb drivejust look at the performance the deck gives
>>739899708That's the vita port of BL2, right? RIGHT?
>>739899128>the console that offers less value than a 5090 prebuilt beating anything
>>739896609No, you pay for a Linux license.
>>739900025Snoytranny cope
>>739899895that's just the deck running a deck verified gameit's a very common occurrence for any game reaching 20fps to get deck verified because there's no quality control
>>739896360Nintendo is competent, Valve is incompetent, there's the difference. I will get a Switch 2 and a PS6 handheld and I will ignore these handheld PCs.
>>739897125>Yhe steam deck is a portable computer capable of running anything you can on PCLet's see MH Wilds running on it.
>>739900232it's objectively true, tendie
>>739901297one of them includes a screen and two controllers
>pay twice>get half the framerate
>>739898930PS5 Pro is meant to be a premium console stronger than the base PS5, Steam Deck is just a shitter handheld.
>just wanted a s2 with botw, smash bros and mario kart for $300>turns out such a bundle costs at least $1000
>>739896756expect the console for toddlers is locked down and runs way worse. I'll pass thanks
>>739896360You guys think I can sell my used steamdeck (LCD and I installed a 1tb SSD on it) for enough to cover the cost of a switch 2 >>739896360
>>739901429so that's what? $300 assuming good onesand switch 2 screen and controllers are shit tier that are worth half of that but let's entertain it5500/450=12.2216.16/12.22= 1.32still loses by a 32% margin to LITERALLY THE LOWEST VALUE GAMING PC YOU CAN BUY
>comparing desktop with handheld hardwarelol, now let's see how it compares with handheld PCs.
>>739896609Valve cultists are still buying them.
Reminder, Pragmata runs at 60FPS on the Switch 2 and can only reach 40FPS on Steam Deck without crapping itself while having worse image quality. Resident Evil Requiem has more graphical features on the Switch 2 than it does on the Steam Deck.
>>739901817so how many hundreds of dollars in value does being a locked down corporate cuckbox subtract
>>739896360Imagine being so retarded in 2026 that you fall for buying Nintendo ;dd I've seen a guy connect his SD to an external GPU, streaming the new 007 to a TV - holy portability, I did not expect it to have the hardware necessary to run something so new
>steam deck is out for years>clearly dont want one>they raise the price >REEEE VALVE IS EVILIf you wanted a Deck, you would have bought one by now. There are several UMPC options availableThis entire discussion is retarded
>>739896360I'm not a nintendo fanboy but if they dropped the prices of their switch games to $20-$30 a pop then the other would actually be fucked 100%.
It's almost 5 fucking years old now. How is the price going up that high?Crazy as hell, honestly. I like my steam deck, but if it cost more than the like $400 I paid for it, I NEVER would have gotten it, it's barely more usable than a fucking average latitude laptop or my phone for emulation.
So wait, the Steam Deck was selling at a loss, right? Is it STILL selling at a loss despite its $300 price increase?
>>739901954a handheld is always going to be more expensive to weaker performance, the same generally applies to laptops as well. You can't magically shove a higher TDP into a handheld unit without killing the battery life or having unusable thermals. But you know this, and just want to shitpost.
>>739896851but, for that amount of money you're better off getting a desktop.
>>739902130or a different handheld PC, there's plenty on the market now
>>739902152Damn.I get that you can get a Steam Deck if you have the disposable income, but let's not pretend there are better value options available.
>>739902084and it's a worse value offering than literally the worst fucking value pc you can get and that's assuming 50% of the performance of the 3050 where it should be closer to 40%at some point you should just stop coping, this is literally making it the worst case scenario for pc and best for switch 2 and it still losesalso it's comparing DOCKED switch 2, it loses 44% of those clock speeds going handheld
>>739896360xbox ally bros, our time is finally here.
>>739901817...
>>739902331it's one of the best value handhelds, especially since 2 controllers are included in every SKU
>>739899128This is accurate. You either got a ps5, xbox or deck already, or you didn't want one enough. Can't imagine anyone but scalpers thinking they held off on buying it when it was $500, now that it's $900 its time to buy.
>>739898891But valve is privately owned! Reddit told me they’re less monomaniacally profit-driven because they control their company!
>>739902436and even the "best" value handheld is complete fucking shit value in the face of the worst value pc
>>739902497No shit, I already explained the reason why that is and why the same applies for gaming laptops too.
>>739896360Too cheap. They should double those prices. Nintendo already has a loyal customer base; poorfags are not welcome.
>>739896360Thank fuck I bought mine before the price hike. Walled gardens aren't my thing but neither is overpaying for a handheld.
>>739902025Because of a massive AI bubble. Have you noticed PC components are up massively too?
>>739902478lel
Grow up, it's time to stop buying childish things like handhelds
>>739901940ill get a switch 2 whence they make a lite
>>739896609People acting like a $200 price increase is okay tho. And only because it's Nintendo doing the massive price increasing!
^ not even worth a (You)
>>739902606I'll tell you a little secret anon. The economy seems fine when the rich are amassing wealth because money sitting at a bank account won't drive up inflation. It's only when the rich start to flex their wealth (like with spending billions on AI) when the economy breaks down. Abolish fiat currency and this is no longer a problem.
>>739902331>is stronger than the Keck>has two controllers that come with it that can be detached from the main unit to allow for coop play>doesn't have kernel anti-cheat issues so it can play games Steam Keck can't>comes with the dock which actually boots the performance of the device>can actually hit 60 FPS on games Steam Keck can't>better image quality than Steam Keck>cost just $450 until September and then $500 after that vs a weak ass $780 and $950 Steam Keck>PS6 Canis will be out next year at the same price as the Switch 2 at $500 and will be far more power than the Steam Keck at its bogus prices>even if you get the PS6 Canis's dock, it will still cost less than the Steam KeckY-Yeah, the Steam Deck truly is the better value, lmao.
Valve has always been in a weird spot when it comes to hardware pricing. One of the biggest failures of the Steam Deck is that it did not increase the Steam userbase to new people as it sold almost entirely to existing Steam users who would otherwise be buying games on Steam anyway. Valve probably looked at the returns and realized that the Deck and Steam Machine are only viable if they are priced at a point where they'd make Valve a similar amount of profits as they'd get from someone spending a similar amount of money on Steam. Valve also lacks the manufacturing infrastructure and relationships with parts manufacturers, they are unable to get good contracts and order in bulk like the console makers and laptop makers can. They are extra screwed due to component costs having gone up immensely. Valve selling the Decks on Steam itself seemed like a good move as it cut costs down by cutting out retailers, but by doing that, the Deck became a failure if it's goal was to bring in new people into PC gaming. Selling an estimated 5 million units over the course of 5 years is... not great to say the least. The value proposition of the deck goes down immensely if you are not already into PC gaming and have a big steam library. Sure, it can play your favorite games, but having to buy them all again is a huge turn off. PS and Xbox users have options that'll let them use their libraries. Also Switch 2 exists. The Steam Machine will likely cost $1200-1500 depending on storage. They can't sell them at cost like Nintendo does with the Switch 2 or at a loss like Sony and Microsoft typically sell their systems. They have to price it high if it's only going to sell to Steam users like the Deck. If they don't have a huge margin, they'd be better off not making or selling them at all, and hope the people who would buy them instead buy a bunch of games on Steam with that money. >>739902345>>739902385Considering the specs, these are way better values than the Steam Deck OLED.
>>739902801Oh wow what an insane and niche redpill. Ill share one with you also, did you know your textbooks you learned from as a kid were written by Mossad :0
>>739903017Reminder, Microsoft is switching to this model with Xbox Helix, so expect a massively high price at launch that won't be subsidized, just like Valve's crap.
>>739902545>why the same applies for gaming laptops too.no, it doesn'tthe 5090 laptop, again, the worst value one, can be had for $3450, switch 2 is $4507.67x the pricethe gpu in that 5090 laptop is 100%/26%= 3.85x as performant as the 3050, 7.7x the performance of a switch 2the switch 2 still fucking loses to the worst value laptop assuming an impossibly good case scenario for the switch 2
>>739902345unironically, the speakers on the Ally's are insanely good. I'm not an audiophile but it made me realize how shit my sound setup is
>>739903167>reading comprehension
>>739902956>PS6 Canis will be out next year at the same price as the Switch 2 at $500 and will be far more power than the Steam Keck at its bogus pricesUnless Sony wants to go bankrupt, they're going to have to price a PS6 portable at a bare minimum price of $700, but more likely $750-800. They can't have it be less than the PS5 as it would look like an inferior piece of hardware to the average (idiot) consumer. If Nintendo needs the Switch 2 to be at $500 to not lose significant money on each system sold, a far more expensive to produce PS6 handheld would not be able to come close to the Switch 2's price point without Sony losing so much on each unit sold that it becomes economically unfeasible to sell. >"But they'll make it back on game sales" Most Playstation users do not buy first party games, most of Sony's revenue comes from the 30% cut they take from third parties on PSN (I'm expecting no physical anything on PS6). So if they want to eat say a $200-250 loss to sell the system at $500, they'd need people to buy upwards of 10 full priced third party games or spend $700 on shit like Fortnite, and other F2P games that Sony doesn't require a paid PSN sub for just to recover from that loss. >>739903156Anyone who expects the Xbox Helix and PS6 console to be anything less than $1000 is a delusional fool, $1200 is probably where they'll be unless components go down, which they won't for at least another 2 years. Current reports on the PS6 from last year peg the bill of materials to be just over $800 (likely way more now) and that doesn't consider shipping parts to the factories, assembly, packaging, shipping to retailers, tariffs, taxes, and then the profits from the retailers, who will likely want a hell of lot more if they don't do physical games.
>>739897080>library of games and ROMs spanning back decades WITH MODS>latest bing bing wahoo that does one of Nintendo's biggest stars a disgrace or ruining a long-awaited title with a parody of annoying sidekicksI won't deny the Switch has some strong arguments but the winner is clear here.
but two steam decks before the price hikedeal with it :^)
You know, at this price and prices of all the other consoles and PC hardware. Switch might just sell another 5+ million
>>739902695Arguing online isn't mature either
>>739901606If you cared about how it ran you'd get one of those Xbox Asus handhelds though.
>>739902718Switch 2 increased $50. Its going from $450 to $500
>>739903641It's kinda funny how the biggest complaint of the switch 2 was its relative high price compared to the switch 1 (people were hoping for ~$350 pricetag), and yet it's still the budget option in the current market anyway. The market is just that fucked up.
>>739896609Yacht collections don’t pay for themselves, man.
>>739903712doesn't increase until september
>>739896852I could buy a switch 2, accessories, and multiple games, and still come out ahead.
>>739896360where the hell is the Switch 2 OLED anyway
>>739903442no, i read it perfectly wellswitch 2 is such shit value that you need to compare it to tiny volume products because it gets raped when you compare it to even the worst value hardware that actually is at the core of pc business
>>739903552They could subsidize the price of the hardware by making paid online mandatory for all games. I'd imagine it would piss off a lot of studios like Epic, Netease, Mihoyo, Activision, etc, as they'd lose a significant amount of users. Sony and Microsoft also probably have came to the conclusion that a significant amount of consoles sold have been almost entirely used to play free-to-play live service titles by people who don't spend money. It would be safe to say millions of PS4s, 5s and Xboxes have been bought just to play stuff like Fortnite, CoD Warzone, Apex Legends, Genshin Impact, and Marvel Rivals by people who then don't spend any money in those games. Meaning that Sony and Microsoft will never profit from those users. If that number is in the 10s of millions, then it's actually a huge issue for them.
>>739903795They’ve got to clear some of the regular Switch 2’s out first. Nintendo decided to go mad with power while everyone is broke and cutting spending, and gas is $5. I took a look at those prices, that non-compelling software lineup, then looked at the backlog of stuff that I’ve bought over the years, and said “You know, maybe I’ll just replay Evil Within. It’s been a while.”
>>739903552>Unless Sony wants to go bankrupt, they're going to have to price a PS6 portable at a bare minimum price of $700, but more likely $750-800.They're using a mobile custom chip while getting a great deal with AMD, using the cheap LPDDR5X RAM, will go for an LCD screen over an OLED one, will either have 256GB of storage or 512GB, they're also using a monolithic N3C chip with no NPU. $500 is definitely achievable for them. They're not stupid like Valve.Anyone who expects the Xbox Helix and PS6 console to be anything less than $1000 is a delusional fool, $1200 is probably where they'll be unless components go down, which they won't for at least another 2 yearsPS6 uses N3C, chances are that will cost $700-$800. Xbox Helix uses N3P, in no universe will that be below $1200.
>>739896360Didn't the deck also sell out in less than 24 hours with the new price.Defend that.
>>739904527Scalpers gonna scalp.
>>739903845Sony can subsidize, Microsoft can't see >>739904453Also,>*Anyone who expects the Xbox Helix and PS6 console to be anything less than $1000 is a delusional fool, $1200 is probably where they'll be unless components go down, which they won't for at least another 2 yearsForgot the fucking green text
>>739897080It has more nintendo games than any of nintendo's own systems lol
