How come the ds had the 2 greatest jrpgs of all time? was it something with the duel screens that made it so good?
>>
>>739896647
DS also had great point and clicks. It really beat out GBA in the end.
>>
>>739896785
Its crazy, it had so many good titles that if someone asked me what console they should get I always say 3ds because you will never finish playing all the good games. Especially with the op pic, they are the best games in their series by far its no contest.
>>
>>739896647
it's because only the mentally retarded own a DS. That's why they think every game is a masterpiece.
>>
PMD sucks. the shiren remake and the izuna games are much better

>ps3 user
Go back to your realism shit tard.
>>739896956
But they dont have the amazing story, interesting characters, constant progression that pmd does. Pmd took the shitty parts of the roguelike out like starting from 1 every dungeon (Except on a couple endgame dungeons)
>>
>>739896956
Shiren and PMD are different beasts. Was never a fan of the more masochistic parts of Shiren
>>
>>739897175
the storyfaggotry is why I dislike pmd along with how easy it is
izuna has good non-roguelike progression with short dungeons you need only beat once and persistent levels/xp
>>
>>739897386
Ahhh so readings hard you are here for big number go up. No wonder you didnt like the story based game, seems odd to say its shit when the reality is its not for you. I dont like mushrooms but i wouldnt say they are shit, I just dont like them. You seem like a negative nancy

I dont even like pokemon but explorers is a good game. Aside from platinum its the only other pokemon game I played.
>>
I like the PMD gameplay but the stories are genuinely too juvenile, and that's coming from someone that likes JRPGs
>>
DQ9 was awesome. Loved how they returned to creating your own party members like in dq3
>>
>>739899528
really wish more JRPGs that werent first-person dungeon crawlers allowed that.

Speaking of dragon quest, i highly recommend this game if you read moonrunes. No english localization yet, but its a solid traditional JRPG

I still play my ancient DS far more than any other console or handheld or anything else that I own. I love that thing.

At least post some of the actually original JRPGs the DS had.
>>
>>739903190
Radiant Historia
>>739896647
Both are shit for different reasons, PMD is just saturday morning cartoon slop, Dusknoir has a stupid blink the moment you ask something, it's the game telling you "this character is LE EVIL"
>>
>>739903663
Just because something is obvious doesnt make it bad, theres a reason most people love the story and game.
>>739903190
I hate roguelikes but I love pmd, explain it retard.
>>
>>739896647
The DS also had Radiant Historia and TWEWY. So it had 4 of the best JRPGs of all time.

Not a jrpg, almost was, but then it had press x to dodge on every attack which sucked asshole. Truly the casualization of gaming, gotta make everything sports ball simulator
>>
DQ9 was boring as fuck. Generic nameless party members drain the soul out of the game. It's also the most formulaic game in the series. Get to a new town -> watch cutscene -> go to the dungeon -> repeat
>>
>>739908018
you have no imagination, low IQ, and you are brown
>>
DQXII when?
>>
>>739896647
>DQ
Mogged by etrian odyssey
>Pokémon
Mogged by shiren
>>
>>739908254
Ill admit etrian is good but i prefer dq job system. But shiren is cringe, I hate starting from level 1 every dungeon its just lame and gay, videogames are for fun not for muh skill check.
>>
>>739908163
>just imagine charming characters bro
Lol
Lmao
>>
>>739908347
>Lmao im not using my imagination to make cool characters.
>I need everything fed to me
Have you never played etrian? Dragon quest 3? Have you never thought about what your character would do between quests? If so, bad news for you. You actually dont like gaming you just like being fed a narrative and movies are more up your alley!. If movies get dull why not try something from sony? they are a good in between of movies and games.
>>
>>739908515
In fact why play DQIX at all? You can imagine a much more inventive and exciting adventure. You don't lack imagination, right?
>>
>>739908714
>why play DQIX at all?
gameplay, party building, RPG elements
>>
>>739908714
>just imagine it all
Yeh thats another separate hobby called dnd anon, thats fun too! You are really getting the hang of this, video games are great for imagining chracters in a pre existing scenario, but yes! you can take it further and just imagine a scenario and the characters! Maybe even write it down, this is called writing. If you draw your imaginary scenario its called drawing! Now add the writing and drawing together you made a comic! Congrats anon you figured out the fun of the imagination you can imagine as little or as much as you want depending on what your doing. But if you imagine nothing, you should stick to movies, or maybe god of war or last of us is more your speed.
>>
Is anyone else really sad that PMD Explorers will NEVER get a soundtrack release and the music will forever be stuck at gamerip-audio quality?
Despite the effort that went into the music and engineering it to the point where Procyon Studio worked on engineering the music?
>>
>>739908932
Yes super sad about it, it has one of the best soundtracks ever made.
>>739908825
I think that anon is actually braindead and just eats up any AAA slop he gets fed, I can't imagine playing games that require no fun and excitement on the players end. The death of the imagination directly correlates to realism and "narrative first adventures". Thanks sony
>>
>>739908825
All subpar. No effort went into the story mode, which can be easily beaten even completely ignoring the job system, that was designed for the tedious and repetitive post game grotto grind and nothing else.
>>
>>739896647
>was it something with the duel screens that made it so good?
Yes. One of the core issues with traditional RPGs is how much of the information is locked behind menu screens and difficult to communicate on a main screen UI. the DS simplifies this by just having a second screen that can always show the detailed main menu information that usually requires a player to be constantly opening and closing the pause screen. The amount of small conveniences that this provides is like the difference between playing a shooting game in 30fps vs 60FPS.
>>
>>739908902
Christ you really think you're smart by excusing the game having no characters, thinking it was the result of some grand artistic vision and not the byproduct of DQIX being designed around connectivity and multiplayer first and foremost, unlike the previous games which progressively added more and more story focus, characterization and dialogue.
>>
>>739896785
the dual screen with touch was legitimately such a good "gimmick" (I wouldn't really call it a gimmick but idk a better word) that worked for so many genres, it's a shame that it's basically dead now.
>>
>>739909532
No i don't im just shocked that you couldnt enjoy the game despite those things purely because you lack the imagination. Do you struggle with 3 too just because it doesnt give you a team? What im saying is that when a game doesnt give you all the information, sometimes thats to its benefit. I had way more fun imagining my characters and what they would do how the battles would look if they were art pieces or animations vs the fun I have when I know the characters personalities because of the heavy characterisation
>>
>>739896647
the DS and 3DS were amazing jrpg machines, these are both good games that I wouldn't even put in the top 10 rpgs on those consoles
>>
>>739896647
DQ9 is an absurdly based game. Localizers spent like 10% of their time actually translating the moon runes, and the rest coming up with literally thousands of puns and alliterations and wordplay. Literally just reading dialogue or bestiary entries out loud to yourself was fun.

you are the same type of people that cause franchises to never experiment with anything new. probably hated halloween III too because it didnt have micheal in it

You got any recommendations that are better? Would love to hear your opinon!
>>
>>739909052
>Yes super sad about it, it has one of the best soundtracks ever made.
At most they could release it on Nintendo Music….but I hate that app and a release there is not the same as a generally accessible commercial release
Yet the funny part is that the company working on Nintendo Music was also involved in PMD Explorers (Hideki Sakamoto is the CEO of noisycroak and Keisuke Ito is a composer under them)
>>
>>739909706
Why is 3 the only other game in the series you bring up, like every other one didn't have actual characters? 3 is a NES game where even if there were named characters they would have maybe one line of dialogue when they join and nothing more, it's excusable because of the limitations and pure gameplay focus. IX doesn't have such excuses, it's a DS game with plenty of story and cutscenes, they just didn't feel like putting any effort in the party members because (mostly in Japan) people would connect their DS and play together with just their avatars.
>>
>>739910158
I bring up 3 cause its the other with custom party. Thats why, not for any other reason. You had to use your imagination for your character, cause if you dont you may aswell be playing a spread sheet with some story locations. All im saying is of you cant have fun with your imagination dont blame the game and maybe go play uncharted or some shit that tells you exactly whats going on
>>
>>739896647
... only 2?
ok...
>>
>>739896647
PMD2 isnt even the best PMD.
PMD1 is
