What games make me feel like I'm in a John Woo movie?

>>739919913Just search third person action shooter and you'll get some results.

>>739919987fucking loved this when i was 12 kek
>>739919913max payne 2/3 unironically
>>739919987fpbp
literally Strangleholdrough around the edges but soulful as fuck Max Payne clone
Sleeping Dogs has a mission exactly like this.
>>739919913I still have no idea how they filmed this scene
May Paynes
literally that's what max payne was made afteralso: time crisis
>>739919913Rise to Honor has everything you're looking for. It's got kung fu battles, giant gun fights with midair shooting and slow-mo, environmental attacks, and a story based on the Chinese triads.
>>739920114For me, it's the warehouse scene.
>>739919913Unironically 007 First Light
>>739920114probably with a camera
>>739919913RE6
>>739919913I can't take shit like this seriously because it's always meant to be highly trained gunmen who have spent years or DECADES doing this shit and yet I'm meant to believe they can't hit the other person a single time during all this.
>friend comes over to play Stranglehold>we play stranglehold everyday for weeks>tell him we must stop playing Stranglehold now>okay.jpg>it's grown boring you autistic >feelsbadman.pngHe was based as fuck and i need to find this guy to tell him that indeed DMC3 is fucking cool like he said.
>>739919913Stranglehold is what you’re looking for.
>>739919913Max Payne, 3 specifically. It's intentionally designed for you to not just hold on to one optimal weapon and hoard ammo. Instead you often just throw them away when your ammo's getting low, roll to pick up the rifle of the guy you just shot instead, and then seamlessly transition into a slowmo blasting the rest of the guys.
>>739919913True Crime Streets of LAMatrix: Path of Neo (first hour) F.E.A.RBetter Than Dead
>>739920742I hated the dogshit cutscenes in that game.
>>739919913>all shooting games posted are +10 years oldholy shit what a nigger dead genre, even sport games have more variety now
>>739920809*blocks your path*
>>739920114Hong Kong wuxia ballets and tv/film production meant there was a whole host of homegrown stunt talent that could do prolonged action sequences and long takes and endure minor pain. You can't exactly yell cut and reposition everyone in a stage production. Meanwhile most western action flicks are just rapid cuts and guys falling down after being shot, and up until Stallone in Rambo and Schwarzenegger, your action heroes were usually just actors. Sean Connery being a bodybuilder before James Bond was the outlier and even then the goal during Dr. No was to forge him from a working class manly man into an effortlessly suave superspy. All these John Woo Hong Kong joints really had to do was swap out the fists, swords and spears for guns, but the choreography and pacing would've been familiar to them. After that, sugar glass and squibs making shit blow up harmlessly just augments the intensity and at most just throws paper and dust into its actors' faces. But it was revolutionary for the time, everything before John Woo looked quaint, just like how Ong Bak and John Wick 10-20 years ago reminded people what action films could look like when the camera wasn't shaking all the fucking time.
>>739919987didnt the pc port of this have crazy problems? that could like brick your PC or something?
>>739920997Chow Yun-fat is so cool.
Do you think the original resident evil devs took some inspiration from hard boiled? The design of the hidden armory underneath the hospital just screamed "Umbrella Lab" to me when I saw it. There's even the top down rotating camera when you character dies that also happens in the movie.
>>739921306The intro to Code Veronica definitely was.https://youtu.be/6ofRM_v6X94?si=DmIgEx8xy-B7zFgk&t=136
>>739921306Absolutely anon all you had to do was watch the intro & the now famous shot of Alice kicking the zombie dogo
>>739920798They were a bit overdone for sure, and especially annoying on a replay. But I think many of them doubled as loading screens in disguise, so that may be part of it. Would like to see an update of the game to modern platforms with in-engine cutscenes instead of pre-rendered.
>>739919913Face/Off is Woo's best movie.
>>739920969this looks so retarded
>>739921013I really hope this isn't the case because >>739920064 looks absolutely kino.
>>739924119it's out on GOG nowadays it's probably fine. i heard about those problems over a decade ago
>>739920114What's not to understand? They rig up the sets full of little explosives and trigger them with a remote to match the choreography
>>739919913my favorite part from the end of hard boiled is when the guy is running at chown yun fat through a doorway and then he quickly kicks the door closed and the dude knocks himself out on the glass
>>739919913Max Payne, especially 2StrangleholdMaximum Action007
>>739920114real bullets. chinese lives are expendable.
>>739919913Maximum Action is literally a John Woo movie in game form, but it has PS1 graphics and the guns sound like shit. Still fun.
>>739925341Sovl
>>739925341>PS1 graphics>looks nothing like PS1just say low-poly anon
>>739921469I think there's a mod for MP3 cutscene skip nowadays.
>>739919913Really minor nitpick but I feel that shooters haven't gone all the way with the inspiration, at least graphically. F.E.A.R. almost did it, but the one thing missing is the sense of carnage after the battle. You get those cool particle effects while in the shootout but the aftereffect is gone almost immediately. You can see the bullet holes on the wall but there's no strewn about leftovers of the wall on the floor; it's almost clean.
arr rook the same
>>739919913Hard Boiled is so fucking good
>>739925989lack of persistent effects is my biggest gaming pet peeve. Disappearing bodies and blood and shit, it's so unbelievably gay. I just want to take in the carnage for a moment after a fight. Like we have 12+ GB of Vram now but we can't afford to keep a fucking blood .png loaded in the game for more than 5 seconds? FUCK
>>739920402>it's grown boring you autistic I've read this at least four times, and I still don't understand what he meant by this.
>>739925989unfortunately rubble costs memory, which modern game engines suck at optimising for. Just a few bullet casings are enough to bring down Unreal Engine.
>>739925989Trepang2's pretty good about that.
>>739926710SOVL
>>739921150Not really, hes a chinese nationalist and was in this shit awful movie detective chinatown 1900
>>739927007>hes a chinese nationalistBased
>>739927323herro
>>739926246It roughly translates to:>The game has overstayed its welcome and I've tired of it, you autistic faggot
>>739920057>not 1
>>739927007>man is nationalistic for his own countryuhm and?
>>739919913more like john WHO?go back to the popcorn mines
>>739927959Zoom zoom
>>739928097nobody cares about your favorite flicks, sorry.
>>739920114>Real fire in a wooden setHow did they get away with it without burning the whole set down?
>>739919913The first few hours of Control. The amount of environmental destruction and particle effects is really amazing.Shame that the game devolves into hovering on the ceiling, spamming telekinesis
>>739928147Kys, zoomoid.
>>739928175luv me tequila
>>739928162They filmed most of the action scenes in buildings that were set to be demoed.
>>739928162the chinese have no sense of self preservation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZEVz1V-X4w
>>739928342Best FPS shotgun of all time.
>>739928175Beautiful. They don't make action scenes like those anymore.
>>739926609fucking awesome
>>739920367World War 2 was mostly fought with trained soldiers yet it was something like 30000 bullets expended per kill.
>>739927931He was in Hong Kong cinema and profited off of Hong Kong and New York money for decades.
>>739930241Read somewhere most of the US ammo expenditure in the Afghan and Iraq wars was suppressive fire.
>>739928342>Enter Action Time (tm) and just walk around shooting enemies while they stand there staring at youHoly FUCK this game looks boring as shit
>>739919913F.E.A.R.Max Payne 1 & 2
>>739921756the killer (1989) is his best movie and it's not up for debate.
>>739930341here is something more appealing to you
Action Source was the shit.
>>739919913kino. So sad that China killed HK cinema
why dont they make movies anymore like they used to in the 90s
>>739931073Too many safety regulations and political/economical factors
>>739931073CGI and cultural decline.
>>739921756you mistyped Broken Arrow
>>739919913who's winning, son?
>>739921756picking a movie starring Nicolas Cage is cheating
>>739925709Samus puking is a classic tho
>>739930287>>739927007A lot of Hong Kong actors need to work in the Mainland or else their entire career would be over.
>>739921013the fov is nauseatingly narrow even for a third person game but you can change it with a mod.
>>739930661Based post and proves exactly why FPS are typically for under 25s and eternal retards
>>739919913endless war 3
>>739926710Only problem for Trepang2 here is that the combat is a bit too precise to really have that same carnage happening. FEAR guns were inaccurate and ridiculous, and the shooting was heavily leaning towards classic hitstun combat where more bullets = more good. Trepang doesn't have enough bullets flying everywhere compared to FEAR so you don't get those John Woo levels of destruction.
>>739921013The gog version of Stranglehold works fine, idk about other versions
>gta>grand theft auto>0 resultsYou had one job.
>>739920114>watch a youtube video on jackie chan stunts>dudes fall out of a 2 story bus onto the street>no trick they just fall 10 feet onto the street
>>739927007wtf based he's a national hero
>>739930903obviously derivative of The Specialists from hl which was such a good mod. there really is a niche market to bring this shit back that isn't the finals. the problem is they balance it around gigacomp shit and not fun
>>739920969This has basically nothing to do with this thread besides being a shooter (not cinematic and stunty) but yes doom eternal is a surprisingly great and unique modern fps despite being AAA, they nailed it, /v/ loves to shit on it though but you know they had a great vision when the game has ardent defenders and haters alike
>>739924501they actually used real guns with blanks.
>>739921013>didnt the pc port of this have crazy problems? that could like brick your PC or something? That was pretty much every PC port back then.
>>739932368you're calling yourself a retard
>>739930495TRVKE
>>739934209They also used real explosives. Every explosion you see in the movie is real.
>>739920367Been a long time since I watched it, but aren't they just gangsters that the cops are fighting? Unless the cops had a SWAT equivalent, neither side is going to really be that highly trained in CQB and shooting both fast and accurately while simultaneously sticking to cover and being aware of their surroundings. If you're choosing between shooting accurately and staying alive, most everyone is choosing the latter. The missing is typically one of the more plausible elements to these kinds of movies.
>>739925341>and the guns sound like shitThat's a pretty egregious problem
>>739925341I'm still pissed about this one.>okay early access, doing well, got some neat ideas, but has to really get some content and refinement in there, at least devolver digital's backing it>dude quits devolver publishing because they "wanted to push it in a different direction than his vision">he's now spent years occasionally releasing some new content or tweaks once in a few blue moons but otherwise sat on his laurels and has let this thing rot without fixing basically any of the issues
severed steel is a decent modern interpretation of it.
>>739931434You mistyped Broken Bell
>>739931995Its not cheating if its true
>>739930305Most fire is suppression so you can close and kill with grenades or something yes. That's why the fire aspect of a fire team has a belt fed machine gun and a bitch carrying like 1000 rounds all over him.
>>739933851Oh fuck off, the guns feel and sound like shit in literally every GTA game. It took Rockstar until Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3 to make satisfying combat, and then they immediately forgot how to do it for GTA V.
>>739920336What happened to these AA / B Tier games? They don't even get made anymore. Did all the small studios get bought up or go bankrupt? Lack of talent today vs back then?
>>739931995and Travolta, it's double cheating.
>>739938178they used to slap together a new studio for movie tie in games or throw them at a shovelware company to shit out, see john woo and matrix games. they were all trying to pull a Goldeneye but it never happened again so they stopped trying. all the studios at that level of funding and competence are instead freelancing weird shit with quirkchungus graphics instead of chasing realism, no longer possible to even attempt at any level of fidelity unless you're going the UE5 stock asset route.
>>739938178That game was one of most expensive video game project back then and one of main reasons why Midway went bankrupt anon. Strangehold isnt AA/B tier game lol.
>>739938963It looks like one.
>>739930903and Double Action Boogaloo
>>739938963despite what Ubisoft may tell you, budget does not determine the quality rating of a game.
>>739938989Back then it didnt,it was AAA game. They also planned sequel with Vin Diesel lmao.
>>739930341I know. It's one of the most overrated shooters there is. People actually thought of it as something tacticool at one point.
I can't decide if this is a genre or just a gimmick. games like max payne and dead to rights really have nothing in common with true crime/sleeping dogs
>>739930495based
>>739919913Fortnite is exactly that, shit tons of bullets and a good variation of weapons. You solo a treesome match and shoot the shit out of other teams.I have a blats dodging their aim, taking them down one by one, even picking up their fallen partners, carrying them away and throwing them off cliffs.I only managed to reach 4th place this way, haven't won a single match like this. The Blitz mode is also good, smaller map and fast paced.
https://youtu.be/AqKGhwKlVVs?t=390How about a game maybe 1% of you have heard of
>>739935050>publisher wants the dev to do some actual fucking work>dev is being a lazy fuckyeah I don't buy the "different direction" narrative
>>739926710trepang was pretty cool right up until they introduced the supernatural bullshit
>>739920064this looks like max payne kino
>>739930341you don't have to press the slo-mo button if you don't want toactually playing through FEAR on hard without using bullet time is resreshing and exciting
>>739942795you've got shit taste and I don't even need to see your webm.
>>739943196A better answer is the fact you can't spam it and fights are often longer than shooting 6 guys once per body with 10 seconds between both groups like in the webm.I remember the game teaching me to eat shit relying on it when the first armored heavy came out. Used the entire bar of slowmo blasting and then it shredded my ass for not trying to get into cover.I can also see people thinking slowmo is passé today. It's not exactly unique anymore.
>>739941535So like 10 minutes into the game? I too was not so pleasantly surprised by the "you shoot bullet sponge monsters now" section
>>739919913John Wick: The Video game.
>>739919913Tarkov Factory when its the first week of a wipe
>>739944026>So like 10 minutes into the game?yeah pretty much. the demo had a way different vibe compared to the full release, what was the point of trying to recreate the FEAR AI only to have nonhuman enemies
Hotline Miami
>>739928483Young Jackie was wild>>739935132Yeah that's a decent cyberpunk slomo game for cheap
